Nier: Automata official site update with music

Yeah, some of my favorite vocals in Nier were fairly subtle, just adding some depth to the mix. Like this:

This new song is fairly straight forward modern pop. I'm hopeful many of the other songs will be a little more out there!

I think you nailed why I'm kind of iffy about it. The vocals/lyrics sound a bit too normal if that makes any sense. It's missing that "ethereal" quality that really made Nier's music stand out.

"Ethereal" is definitely the word to describe it. Nier's music sure was heavenly alright. Nier 2 has a lot of pressure to live up to. Drakengard 3's OST was just decent and not a patch upon Nier's. Beginning to think Nier 1's OST was a flash in a pan situation, honestly.

Wow I really like this song! I think you guys are being waaaay to hard on it just because it's sung in english/ not Emi Evans. It's still a very good song in it's own right and exactly the type of song i'd expect from this game. Plus there's no indication Emi Evans/the phonetic songs won't be in the final game.

Any ways, honestly can't wait for this game. Curious as to when it'll release. Summer seems way to soon, and it'll die if it's release in Fall/WInter. Whatever the release date is i'm certain the west won't see it till at least 2017 which sucks :(

You guys need to have a more open mind about the soundtrack insteade of automatically comparing it to Nier 1. They've already said this has no connecting to the first game outside of the world and some cameos. Why would they keep that same ambiance for the 2nd game? New game gives you more freedom to play with the soundtrack and how you present the music and sound design. I actually like the song and can't wait to hear more. I'm excited to see what the leitmotif is for this.

Sooooooo good. Between the PGW trailer theme and this theme I'm super excited for the game, story and the OST.

Nier 1's OST works in the context of the game. Drakengard 3's OST worked just as well for the tone of that game, as Nier's OST did for it's game.

If D3 got the same kind of OST that Nier did it would actually be substantially worse. Hell, Drakengard 1's OST alone shows that context is just as important as the quality of music itself.

Man, I compare Ashes of Dreams to this and I can't help but be disappointed more and more with this. Is this how the OST will turn out now? :/

EDIT: Wait, Emi Evans is coming back? Alright I'll stop lol.

As long as there's even one track that mesmerizes me like Grandma/SotA, then that'll be a good day. That'll be a damn good day.

Shadowlord too but listening to its arrangements is really depressing in context.

And Grandma isn't depressing after knowing its context?

It's not really about keeping the same ambiance. The point being made is that Emi Evans does god tier work as seen in Nier and Drakengard 3, both games with different "ambiance" if you want to use that word.

Naturally in the
spiritual
sequel people expect her to reprise her role as a vocalist and amaze us all over again. And that doesn't require that they do the same exact thing as Nier, because that insinuates that Emi Evans can only do one thing, which is obviously not the case given her work in the two games I mentioned previously.

I mean considering both parties have publicly expressed interest in working together and Emi's pedigree there's really no reason to think that Nier: Automata and whatever they're going for with the game's soundtrack would not benefit from her involvement.

I kind of accepted that Nier's soundtrack will never be beat, which is why I want them to take the OST in a different direction.

That said, though this is definitely different, I'm not loving it, it's just okay. I could see myself changing my mind if they switch to gibberish language version so I'll hold my judgement until we get the full OST. I don't think Emi Evans is necessary, but she will be missed. The fake languages that mimicked gaelic/french/etc. were what really set Nier's OST at the top.

Releasing close to the juggernaut release that is FFXV? Suicide, absolute suicide, unless they want the game to fail. I sincerely hope its a 2917 release.

Same thing happened to the first NieR, it got released about a month after FFXIII and sales probably lacked because of it. That coupled with the fact that critics pretty much slammed it hard.

Regarding Emi Evans: I haven't seen any confirmation of her being in besides the fact that Yoko Taro and Okabe want her in the game. She is most likely going to be at the NieR concert on Saturday since they are going to perform both old and new NieR songs. So that is probably the best opportunity to confirm if she is in Automata or not.

Drakengard 1's OST is fucking amazing. D3's was pretty good, like I say, but compared to D1 and Nier 1? Not even close. I don't need it to be exactly the same as Nier 1's, just the originality of D1's and Nier 1's music vs D3's soundscapes which were just kinda generic outside of the amazing ambient tunes was disappointing to me. Then again, D3 on the whole was a disappointment in other areas also (story, repetitive enemy design, boss design, graphics and frustrating camera...the performance was utterly terrible too, the game crashed on me and enemy AI was braindead in parts). D3 was a bit of a mess with moments of greatness hidden in there.
