There's two types of Nier fans; those who just like the OST, and those who enjoy everything about it.
For the record, I'm in the latter camp.
That's not true. I liked the story too.

Nier's base hack and slash /w magic gameplay leaves a bit to be desired, but what they do with the near bullet hell/shmup sections and theare interesting enough for me to give it a pass.VN section with the tree
not at all.The best part of an otherwise mediocre game.

Emil (Sacrifice) makes me tear up whenever I hear it. The soundtrack really tied the whole game together.
The gen had some great music. So much so that I was violently suspicious when people kept naming this fucking game as having a better soundtrack than some of the other great games of the gen like Mario Galaxy....
But then I saw someone post a Youtube link and listened. Jesus Fucking Christ, who the heck puts THAT much work into a game soundtrack. Its fucking immaculate.![]()
Just curb stomps everything else. I love it to pieces, never played the game (much).
Game had a tight score. Was Drakengard 3's music any good?
TheWretched Automatons is an out of body experience. 100x10^984739 out of 10, would listen till i die.

Unsure if it's been posted already but the official remix album is outstanding.
Too many amazing tracks and so very many feels.
Especially that Shadowlord track and when it plays during the final boss fight with a remixed slower version (music box?) kicking in when the fight takes long enough, just about lost it at that point.
And this makes perfect sense because (massive game spoilers)the languages that the "people" in this world would have invented for themselves should sound like human languages, because they have human-like bodies, but should not be human languages, or variations thereof, because they're not actually the descendants of humans, but rather empty vessels designed to have the Black Scrawl written into them.
What a great game Nier was.
It actually keeps removing instruments in each of the final boss attacks in the 2nd phase, until theres only the music box version.
