NieR's OST Will Never Be Forgotten

Nier's base hack and slash /w magic gameplay leaves a bit to be desired, but what they do with the near bullet hell/shmup sections and the
VN section with the tree
are interesting enough for me to give it a pass.

I'm just fine with mindless hack'n'slash gameplay as long as there's more to be found, and Nier definitely has that.

One of my top 5 favourites of its generation, and the soundtrack is a very big part of my affection for the game.

The best part of an otherwise mediocre game.
not at all.
Nier is far from mediocre. it has some really good story and characters, although it took me 2 runs to fully comprehend the story (to be fair, the game does not explain it very well). great ost and nice locations, I wasn't a fan of the battle system but eh, it wasn't terrible. also variety. I remember the VN-like section and various dungeons being quite peculiar, in a good way most of the time.

and those ng+ feels, damn. you need to play the game a second time, half of it anyway.

It's pretty awesome.

I had the Nier soundtrack playing for most of my Dark Souls playthrough, along with ICO's soundtrack. It was magical. One of my fave OST in all of games.

Ashes Of Dreams ( 4 versions for 4 endings )
Emil Karma / Sacrifice
Devola
Kaine Salvation / Escape
Shadowlord
Hills of Radiant Winds
The Dark Colossus Destroys All
Cold Steel Coffin

I like all of these with the ones at the top being my favorite.

I didn't care too much for the remix album (the Rafven and World's End Girlfriend songs were both awesome but the rest were eh imo) but the actual soundtrack is the best game OST out there, no contest.

The gen had some great music. So much so that I was violently suspicious when people kept naming this fucking game as having a better soundtrack than some of the other great games of the gen like Mario Galaxy....

But then I saw someone post a Youtube link and listened. Jesus Fucking Christ, who the heck puts THAT much work into a game soundtrack. Its fucking immaculate.

Just curb stomps everything else. I love it to pieces, never played the game (much).

Its perfection. I don't think it will ever be topped.

Nier is an unfinished low budget game with the right ideas. Imagine if the game had the budget of something like FFXIII....

The Wretched Automatons is an out of body experience. 100x10^984739 out of 10, would listen till i die.

my top 5 tracks: 1) dearly beloved ( KH)
2) who am i really (MGS4)
3) The Wretched Automatons
4) Uncharted Worlds (Mass effect
5) Deus Ex HR Menu Theme

whats funny about that list is that list is that i have a deep love and emotional attachment to all those games except Nier. I only played nier for like the first 3 hours, then i had to get rid of my ps3.

Clearly the best OST of the last gen and in my top 10 of all time .
We need more good VGM like this this.

My GF who is not too much of a music person (she could live without music) when she played this game She told me that she liked Wretched Automaton , I was like ... wow , she never really comment on music.

So yeah this ost is very special .

Shadowlord is one of the best songs in videogame history.

I made myself a 5 hours loop once and I listened through it once a day if possible.
It's amazing.

Too many amazing tracks and so very many feels.

Especially that Shadowlord track and when it plays during the final boss fight with a remixed slower version (music box?) kicking in when the fight takes long enough, just about lost it at that point.

This game was the biggest and best surprise of last gen for me.

I love everything about NieR. I'm really happy that I played it.
Back in 2010 when I don't have a PS3 yet I stumbled upon a opening scene of NieR in youtube which contains the epic "Weiss you dumbass" line, then I know I have to get this game when I have PS3. After beaten more than 100 PS3 games I can say this is my favorite game from last gen!

I haven't played it yet but I listen to this amazing soundtrack at least once a month. I really love the music. The remix album is great too.

This might be my favorite vocal OST ever; certainly my favorite one with invented lyrics.

Emi Evans never did release official lyrics, did she? I took a stab at transcribing them for about ten of the songs. They're beautifully made, because while they're not in any real human language, they tend to use the correct phonetic inventories from specific languages, so they sound to a non-speaker as if they could be real. Like Sid Caesar's famous "double-talk" set to music.

And this makes perfect sense because (massive game spoilers)
the languages that the "people" in this world would have invented for themselves should sound like human languages, because they have human-like bodies, but should not be human languages, or variations thereof, because they're not actually the descendants of humans, but rather empty vessels designed to have the Black Scrawl written into them.

What a great game Nier was.

Keiichi Okabe is so damn amazing. Nier's OST is one of the best soundtrack's I've ever heard in my life and Drakengard 3's OST is also almost just as good.. Recommend people to check that out if they liked the Nier OST (although its a little different than Nier)

It actually keeps removing instruments in each of the final boss attacks in the 2nd phase, until theres only the music box version.

The use of the OST within the game is something incredible too.

Going offtopic here
the Black Scrawl isnt being written onto them. Its a genetic error in the Replicant system, where the Gestalt they are linked with starts to relapse, making its Replicant get the Black Scrawl
