Personally I don't really care about the missing BC for the PS3. I'm not hugely fond of most of it's exclusives, and the ones I wanted to play, I already did.
The reason why I tend towards the PS4 is that Sony in the last years has really started to introduce schemes and offers that are very appealing.
Coupled with some exclusive games (GT, LBP... and that's about it) the PS4 seems like a lot better value.
Add to that, that most if not all of my gaming buddies migrated from 360 to Wii/PS3, it's easy to see why I'm going to switch. Hell if my 360 wouldn't still miraculously work (allthough it is the 3rd one) I would've switched to PS3 already.
And to be brutally honest: I would never buy a MS hardware on launch again. Might be irrational, but after the disaster I went through with this shoddy POS hardware I'm not going to trust MS again.

I really can't see that happening. And I've tried OnLive. Even using fast internet. The graphics aren't great due to compression and there is latency with using the controller. In short it's not great.

Nikkei seem to have been very careful with their statement, not ruling out a b/c, just saying that Cell will not be present in PS4.

Their patented "cell half chips" are called Processing Elements (PEs). In fact in their patent, they didn't use the word Cell once.
They do. And then they add shipping costs and translation costs and 20 % taxes and you end up with a much higher price.

Maybe. Other than not knowing who might be producing such a chip (not all of these things get announced) it's possible. I hope so. I've invested a lot, and not getting BC for games I purchased even this year would be honestly upsetting.
if this is true (miiverse and touchpad), I get the feeling that Sony is going to align towards nintendo in terms of functionality instead of (only) going for a hyper HD twin with microsoft
Smart move if you ask me, sony needs to take care of their household in Japan and be careful with nintendo and their recent mindset of buying 3rd party exclusives (bayonetta, and somehow MH4) and this is a chance to secure that most next-gen big japanese IPs appear on both japanese giants, lowering the chances of a 3rd party dev/publisher being seduced by nintendo publishing deals and whatnot.
I think this is splendid as long as it helps smaller japanese games reach more audiences and secure an existence.

Actually, I accepted the fact that BC won't be in and no Cell secret jizz will spice up calculations. Everything to the contrary will be a big fat wad of surpirse in my face.

Would be a bigger selling point for me than anything else. Just like the GBA SP/GB Player being a universal Gameboy that would play anything Gameboy with the best possible image was also amazing.
Dropping BC for even the gen before is just bad though. Might as well keep the PS3 until the PS4 has it's first price drops then.

I don't think no cell automatically rules out BC. theres always software BC. and also gaikai.
These surely are exciting times, but not so exciting that I would lock down a day-1 purchase. Don't you need/want to know anything about games, features, controller or price before making that decision?
No one forces you to sell PS3 once PS4 comes out. And two - if your TV doesn't have at least two HDMI ports than you should upograde it first before you think about next-gens. Plus, we will most likely get some sort of PS3 FHD/3D collections like we got PS2 ones.
Convenience counts. I went to a lot of trouble to find a BCable CECHE. I don't need "media centers" scattered all around my living room. I want as few as possible.

Unless the PS4 hardware is powerful enough to emulate PS3 hardware. Maybe the SPEs can be emulated by the GPU.
But will you really play PS3 games in next-gen THAT much? I personally gonna wait 1-2 years after PS4 comes up to catch up with everything I haven't played on PS3, and that's it, so long PS3, welcome PS4.

If anything I expect Gakai to work on PSN titles, no Ps3 full games.

The hype is almost entirely due to the competition and thus fan flamewars between MS and Sony. There is nothing particularly exciting about the basic specifications, they both seem to be featuring anti-consumer/software ownership facilities, and any discussion of fundamental hardware without any information about new gameplay styles or genres is entirely redundant imo.
tl;dr: it's a feedback loop of analysis paralysis.
