Yeah he always picks great opening acts. Except the one time I saw HEALTH open for them. They were absolutely horrible. I've since heard HEALTH songs that I really like, but they were one of the worst live bands I've ever heard, so grating. Maybe they just had a bad day.

Absolutely can't wait to hear The Fragile in 5.1. I would run from speaker to speaker listening to all of the crazy details in TDS' surround mix. I'm sure TF has even more layers to uncover.

The Bug opened when i saw nin and it was the worst shit ive ever heard. Some big fat british chick screaming over awful techno.

Never seen them live, but I like his production. I can see it being the type of music that doesn't translate well to a live set. I really like this Thom Yorke Remix though.

Best bands I saw opening for NIN were DFA1979 (lots of screaming there too though) and Queens of the Stone Age

I saw Health open for NIN and they were pretty awful, they basically got booed off the stage. Their drummer kicked ass though.

After thinking about it a bit I'll be going to one date. It'll be my 18th NIN show. Jesus.

Hoping for a Lexington, KY date. Or a Louisville, KY date. Or a Cincinnati, OH date. Or a Nashville, TN date. Or even a Atlanta, GA date.

God I hope (if they come here) "Philadelphia, Pa" is actually the Susquehanna Center in Camden NJ for their tour because it's right next to campus and would be amazing and maybe even get cheaper tickets through school omg.

They've played there before. Half the time when I see bands there they seem to think they're in Philly lol. It's not my favorite venue but I hope they play there because it should be a bit easier to get tickets at such a huge venue. Last time I saw Radiohead there, I went without any ticket and me and my friend got two lawn tickets for less than the price of 1 from ticketmaster.

And to think I would never get the chance to see them live!

Now come to Europe!

Edit: I havent heard The Fragile (have allergic reactions to double LPs) or With Teeth, just how good are they? I do love all the other main releases but those two are cited as the weakest albums, just how good are they?
If you've listened to The Slip and really liked it or loved it. Then you'll enjoy aWith Teetha. Otherwise, skip it.

The Fragile- the best. :x

I don't get the hate from NIN fans for HEALTH. They're one of the best new live acts out there today. Wish I had caught their entire set when they opened for the Echoplex gig.

Nope, NH. Pretty funny that the same thing happened in Atlantic City though.

What I remember were multiple guitars all playing very loudly with no sense of melody or separation between the instruments I was hearing. I was pretty close in a small venue and it was grating. NIN didn't suffer this problem even though they played really heavily distorted stuff like The Line Begins to Blur. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that they're not usually bad, because I've heard HEALTH songs I liked. If they were playing at a festival I was at I would be curious enough to check them out again.

My favorite was the second time I saw NIN, back in 1991 in a small club. Two opening acts: Chemlab, who were pretty unknown back then, but they were good - and Die Warzau, who I knew of but never really investigated. They blew the roof off the place, just utterly fantastic. Most of us left Die Warzau fans that night. They only had one album out at that point, and I went out and bought it the next day, followed by every one since.

Yeah, I'm all over this as soon as it comes out.

I'm all jealous and shit

Yup, it was just a mesh of noise blasting out of the speakers. I was in a pretty big arena, and I was probably 30 feet from the stage, and some of the songs they played literally hurt my ears. They were not received well, to say the least.

Recent NIN is definitely not near as distortion heavy as HEALTH's. The closest being that Tetsuo track he did. I can see how/why people not used to those effects not diggin it for the most part. Anyways, definitely give them another chance. Their latest work was the soundtrack for Max Payne 3.

I'll be there. Glad you got your mojo back Trent.

Also, there will be Canadian dates and venues on this tour. No doubt about it.

Health are really a great and unique band imo. Their first album was pretty experimental in a lot of ways but their second one has some really catchy songs on it.

Can't wait for their next one.

Also can't wait to see if we'll get some new NIN material out of this, hopefully not to HTDA-sounding.

TRYING TO SAVE MY SHOW BUT MY SHOW KEEPS SLIPPING AWAY

Here's hoping for a Buffalo or comparably close date. Saw The Fragile tour at the arena in 2000 (2001? Who can remember) and it was pretty awesome.

I was there...APC opened for them.

I've since them seen NIN in Cleveland and Hamilton.

I've already mentally committed to a 3 hour drive radius for this.

Saw them for The Fragile tour back in 2000 with A Perfect Circle opening up in Philly.

Will see them again for sure. Great news.

Adrian Belew's Blog:

today it is being announced at last.
something I've been wanted to tell you for a month now:
I've been asked to be the guitarist for nine inch nails!
we are going on an extensive world tour,
reaching places even I have never been!

I'll be moving (temporarily) to LA in may
for 3 months of rehearsals after which the tour begins.
that's about as much as I know for sure for now.

daniel rowland will be assisting me on the tour
which should allow us some time to continue
our third year of making my new solo project.

So HTDA ends touring in end of April and NIN starts rehearsing May - August.

Semi-confirmed tour dates:

Lollapalooza - Chicago, Il; August 2nd - 4th.
Rock N Heim - Hockenheim, Germany; August 16th - 18th.

International tour confirmed?

P.S. There was also a hint of HTDA touring on Lollapalooza.

It would be insane watching them both perform.

Not to rain on the HTDA parade, but that leaked Lolla lineup pic is almost certainly fake, since Jay-Z is performing in mid-July in Chicago, and festival rules say that artists can't perform in the three months leading up to and three months after the festival.

Doesn't mean HTDA won't be there, though. I think it's pretty likely that they'll be at some Chicago festival, either Pitchfork or Lolla.

Pitchfork has a festival? Definitely expect them to be there then. They are lovey dovey with TR these days.

Man, this is awesome news. I'll finally be able to see them. Hopefully we get some news on The Fragile reissue soon as well.

Anyone else here want to punch a person in the face when they say Johnny Cashs' cover of Hurt is better then the original. Infuriates me to no end.

Cash's version is better than the version on TDS. NIN's live version is better than Cash's.

I think Closer still has my favorite sound palette of any song ever. My first experience of it was the cassette single, I already knew some PHM/Broken songs from my sister and she bought it for me. I was actually scared of some of the sounds/lyrics in TDS at the time. Then I remember being blown away listening to it in 5.1 years later, after I thought I knew the album really well. And on the floor in madison square garden, hearing Closer's "tickticktickticktick" sounds incredibly loud as some sweaty fat disgusting man shoved my 110lb skinny ass into a mosh pit.
I love all his stuff, but Closer is on another level. That filthy sounding synth line.. where it kicks up a notch after the first chorus... and that build to the end is absolutely incredible. It's always gonna be that "OMG, that fuck you like an animal song" but it really is quite awesome.

And to the post about Still, and the closeness to the studio, couldn't agree more. Something so bleak and melancholy about that record, it's one of my favourites. It gives me a major Metroid Prime vibe, which was cool given when they both came out.

His stuff is just getting better with time, too, IMO - I find some of the earlier records kinda cringeworthy lyrically, the more I listen to them. Musically I love all of it, though. I flew 24 hours to see NIN live in 2005 in Brixton, and have dragged the bf along to many shows and festivals around Aus - such a great live experience. So pleased with this news!
I find disc 1 of The Fragile to be NIN's finest work. I mean, that WHOLE sequence from "Somewhat Damaged" to "The Great Below" is just eargasmic (although you could say that "No, You Don't" is a bit weaker than the rest, but still). A textural, atmospheric, emotional journey that is unparalleled.

And I like disc 2 a bit less, even if it features some great songs. I just think it's a bit more unfocused, a bit less gripping, the melodies aren't as strong... but it is still essential to the feel of the album. The journey wouldn't be complete without disc 2.
Pretty much. The Big Come Down is up at the top for me, though.

great song! I'm quite partial to that The Frail/The Wretched/We're In This Together/The Fragile/Just Like You Imagined combo. So fucking good.

well, JC's version is amazing, but when paired with the music video it just goes to the next level.

I can cross "go to a Nine Inch Nails concert" off of my bucket list now! Provided that the show comes to the Cruzan Ampitheatre, of course.
