I've never played a Killzone game before but this and the PS4 versions look good. Will end up picking up both as my first Killzone experiences.
Oh my goodness now I understandThis is Cambridge. They've been wizards for quite some time. Go back and check out Primal and Ghosthunter on the PS2 to see how crazy their tech can be. This gen they've mostly just been just moved around to help on other projects.
I have one of those and it's great. Hard to reach the rear touchpad though. For anyone planning on getting a Vita (be it for Killzone Mercenary or any other title), the Nyko Powergrip is highly recommended. Almost doubles the battery life and makes the Vita much more comfortable to hold, which was a big deal for me because the Vita alone gave me cramps thanks to the rear touch screen.
now i am even more dissapointed in shadow fall
I hope that Killzone won't be the last game to really push the Vitas hardware.
This thread is a little self indulgent, but I wanted to make it to express how impressed I am with the work Guerrilla Cambridge is putting into Killzone: Mercenary. Since I write, I got access to the preview level code that lead to the recent hands-on previews, and I've since poured a stupid amount of time into it just to oogle at the graphics and learn more about how it plays. What makes me more impressed is that I'm really not overly fond of the Killzone franchise, outright disliking it at times, so to enjoy Mercenary so much is really something.
So, I thought I'd compose a list of the things I'm impressed with, and what jumps out at me as cooler than the usual Killzone stuff. Most/all might not be new to people here, but given the Vita's...limited market penetration, I figured Killzone fans who've missed out on the latest media blitz might be interested in knowing which direction the franchise is going in the portable world, contrast to the PlayStation 4's Shadow Fall.
Of course it won't. Sony will continue to push games like this for years on the system. Probably starting with a new Uncharted next year.
So is basically Kz2 downscaled to Vita?

Are you serious
Uncharted Abyss came out in 2011
They need a new one out this yest December
Sounds to me like with this and Shadow Fall they're making the level design more like GoldenEye.
Sounds great. Might be time to dust of the old vita.
Anyone know how long the game is meant to be? How many MP maps there are etc etc?
Kinda wish there weren't two Killzones coming out this year. I already have KZ:SF on pre-order, but, I also want this one real bad. I just can't justify spending $100 (minimum) on Killzone in the span of two months.
great write up.
this game is going to be redic. can't fuggin wait!

If an Uncharted sequel was going to be ready by christmas this year it would have already been announced. Also it only came out in 2011 in Japan. It was 2012 for the rest of the world.
Yes, but it having come out in December 2011, even if it was in Japan only, means it was done before then, and work on their next title probably started then, too. If a new one came out this December, it would have been a two year development cycle, which is about the average. Now, I don't think there WILL be a new Bend game out this December, but I do have to wonder why we haven't heard anything this far in, and I'm hoping we will at Gamescom.
The craziest thing is this game doesn't seem to suffer much at all from blown up screen shots and videos. Most Vita games because of the resolution of the Vita, native or not, have huge screenshots online and it ruins the detail and IQ, but not so much with this. I can only imagine how this looks on the Vita itself.
