Ninja Blade - 1/29/2009 Release in Japan

That's pretty early.
This game does not interest me though from what I've seen, and I'm a pretty big NG/DMC fan.

So the last two "big" exclusive titles for 360 in Japan will be released by February. MS Japan better have some new stuff to announce soon...

After playing Ninja Blade at TGS this year I lost all interest in the game.

Is it basically another Ninja Gaiden or has it got something that differentiates itself from other games? I was interested at first (I had an MGS/Ninja vibe) but now it just looks like a shitty clone.

I've only seen the TGS footage, btw.

I remember this being the fabled secret title that was going to push the 360 to the limits whilst making use of the new motion controller for total ninja sword fighting action.

Its stock seems to have dropped somewhat... :/

That was never the case. Don't make shit up.

I remember coming back off holiday a few months ago and seeing references to an un-released game called 'Ninja Blade' being referred to on these boards that was rumoured to be an 'MGS4 killer app' or something for the Newton controller.

I'm not trying to say that this was ever confirmed, just that people were letting the rumours get the better of them and the hyperbole started to rise. :/

Here, http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=11760810&highlight=ninja+blade#post11760810 I remember asking what Ninja Blade was when I returned off my holidays. As you can see in that thread, plenty of people spreading rumours that it was "Microsoft's answer to MGS4" or something to make use of the new Mii-Too Remote.

Nah, we thought it might be big untill it was unveiled. We had a few laughs, cried at the QTE's and called it a day. At least it won't get a 40 page hype/PR thread.

Well Mr. duckroll, in his defense there was a period of strange hype for the game. These are some of the reasons:

1) It had Ninja in the title. Ninjas are cool.

2) A Ninja Blade folder was found on the MS PR site along with the folder "Lips." Nobody knew what Lips was back then. There were several sites claiming that Lips was code for a MS wiimote-type input device. Some jumped to the conclusion that the Ninja Blade folder and the Lips folder were related.

3) Some site said that Ninja Blade was a truly next gen experience where cutscenes and gameplay blend seamlessly with each other yadda yadda yadda. Hype increased.

Since then the hype train has not only been stopped but has been derailed. We get no new media, previews, etc. and now we get a release date that is suspiciously right around the corner.

I'm not agreeing with him (nobody claimed it to be a system seller, saviour or MGS4 killer or whatever). But there was a strange period there where the hype was very strong and hopes were very high.

Well until now I believed in Takeuchi's team at least, but Ninja Blade at TGS was really really average.
Yeah but the difference between LO demo and LO full game was pretty vast, was it not? Could just be a case of not selecting a good part for the demo.

To be fair, that's a difference of over a year. The ToV demo is probably a better comparison.

Like duckroll said, it's just two totally different cases. TGS was in October, game gets a release at the end of January. So it means that it was 3 months from completion at that time.
LO's demo was "finished" in August 2006 (IIRC), the full game was released in December 2007.
3 months versus 15 months. 3 months is usually just enough time to polish the game, it's certainly not enough to change the game design ;)

I remember when they showed it they said it was very far in its development. Do we know if the build at TGS was old or not ?

But it was pretty much unchanged in the final game.

Erm, what? I'm sorry but maybe you simply don't remember the demo well. The demo was TOTALLY different. There were tons of texture loading issues, the camera was fixed and more zoomed in than it was in the final game. You can't control the field camera at all in the demo, etc. Pretty much unchanged = bullshit.

Let's compare the LO gameplay demonstrations at TGS 07 instead. By then it was pretty obvious the game was ready to ship and was totally shaping up. I'm totally optimistic for Ninja Blade because I'm really expecting it to just be a cheezy fast packed ninja action game with ridiculous over the top cutscenes and boss battles, mixed with Tokyo skyscraper insanity and exploding shit. But I totally believe the TGS demo is completely representative of what the game really is. That's not going to change.

Not even mentioning the lack of rings.

loll. From Software sure likes releasing games so early. Demon's Soul is out in February. really. Take your time ;P

I think it's more a matter of them announcing late. Not like they started on the game last summer. ;)

Hmmm... graphics look good...

but it seems so generic... generic looking ninja with three different weapon types, generic combat, and generic quick time events.

Something new, please?

Now Otogi, that's how it's done right.

wait, what? So early!

Will this be the Ninja Gaiden a gamer with basic human skills of anger management can actually play?
