my interest in this game died first.

It seems like a weird translation (I'm assuming the Japanese, which was in the subtitles, was written first). The Japanese version was more like: "Which will happen first: the world ends, or you die?" Which is pretty awkward in English, so I can see why the translator went with the cheesy line.
