Ninja Gaiden: Sigma demo out

I thought someone on nintendo's side asked to make that, and the project was given to SK.

All I was trying to say is that companies don't always make the decisions we expect them to make. The Xbox never got MGS3, even though fanboys were convinced it would because MGS2 came to the Xbox.

This new non-Itagaki part of Team Ninja is a wildcard. They could end up being a port factory, or they might make nothing but new PS3 exclusives after Sigma. We just don't know.

I'd love a new Rygar. The PS2 remake was good. Limited but promising.

My guess is that if Sigma is successful, Ninja Gaiden 2 will become a timed exclusive.

That is very reasonable, but some people here act like NG2's exclusivity/non-exclusivity is a certainty. At this point it isn't. Team Ninja follows the beat of a different drummer, we'll have to just wait and see.

Demo looks absolutely positively gorgeous on my pioneer plasma. Easy though, until you get to the harder modes. Definately a must buy, and I have NGB on the 360 for comparison purposes. There aren't any.

This version is by far the best one out there.

The lighting and self shadowing for DOA is an art choice. They're going for the porcelain doll look.

Oh yeah definitely. I'm hoping Ninja Gaiden 2 has a fully dynamic lighting model, because that's the last step Team Ninja needs to take in terms of graphics.

Indeed. I look forward to seeing what Team Ninja does with NG2.

Didn't Itagaki say they were going for more realistic/detailed models in Ninja Gaiden 2?
Can't find the quote, but I seem to remember that...from somewhere...

I'd be thrilled if they just used the Sigma model. I think Ryu's basic design is awesome, and the sigma model looks incredible.

Was NG2 even ever announced? I keep seeing all these people saying "Didn't Itagki say this?" "Didn't Itagki say that?" Can ANYBODY give ANY actual quotes instead of specculation?

IGN: Based on our interview from last year, we spoke with you about a particular game and its sequel. We spoke about whether it would be on the Xbox 360 or not. As a follow up question, we'd like to know what console you're bringing Ninja Gaiden 2 to?

Itagaki: Thanks. I said something and then I created all kinds of commotion. People started speculating about the game with all the worst case scenarios.

IGN: We just wanted to follow up from last year in case there was any miscommunication about the future of Ninja Gaiden 2.

Itagaki: I think that what I can say is that I will never betray my Ninja Gaiden fans. That, I can promise.

This is what Itagaki has said. So basically, there's 0 chance NG2 won't be on the Xbox 360, but he hasn't ruled out other platforms.

Go read Itagaki's interviews. He's confirmed it in several of them.

Dolls have self-shadows too. Besides, they already have self-shadowing in DOAX2 so that doll-look excuse can be put to rest now. They're obviously aiming for realistic looking environments with anime-like characters, so real-time lighting would help the environment and also make the characters look more CG.

Why did Twin Snakes come to the Gamecube?

Twin Snakes was made as a gesture of respect from Kojima to Miyamoto, and it was outsourced to Silicon Knights. Also MGS2 was over 3 years old and MGS3 was already well into development on the PS2.

Subsistence didn't come to the Xbox simply because Kojima was more interested in gearing up for MGS4 and didn't have the time.

I'm not saying NG2 is 100% confirmed on the PS3, but I'd say it's somewhat likely.

Wonder if they toned down the difficulty for this thing? Or will there be plenty of broken PS3 controllers as well as broken Xbox 1 controllers?

D.

They added another difficulty level.

Holy crap, just got to very hard mode.... jesus christ.

Are any of the weapons most effective at killing guys quickly? I feel like the double swords are the strongest but I really like the bo better, much more stylish.

Damn it, why isn't this a "Stylish Action Game" ?

I don't really agree. Itagaki clearly stated the Xbox 360 is his main platform. If by any chance NG2 will go to a Playstation platform, it'll be Hayashi (or someone else) who will be in charge of porting it to the Playstation platform (maybe PS4 by that time).

Yep, this makes the most sense. NG2 will definitely be a timed 360 exclusive, but we just don't know how much time.

Has Itagaki actually worked with the PS3 yet? The Rygar sequel is being handled by the head producer of Sigma.

I'd love to see a new IP from Team Ninja on the PS3. They always mention how they develop for the most advanced hardware.

....Rygar sequel?

And Itagaki...he doesn't actually do any programming himself, does he?

It was mentioned in an interview, but nothing has been officially announced. IGN and some other sites have a placeholder for it too.

No, I really doubt he does any programming at this point. I just think it's funny that Team Ninja backed the Xbox for the fact that it was the most advanced system out.

I am a Ninja Gaiden "virgin" and I love this demo. I remember playing a little bit of the one that came out for X-Box and I don't remember the camera being this frustrating. Was it always like this? I can barely see anything at some points.

Well, I just read over and over that, "Itagaki won't work on PS3."

He's not doing any working. It has nothing to do with the hardware. I'm sure his teams would work fine if he wanted to. It's going to be entirely political. It doesn't make any sense to have exclusive games anymore.

Sigma could very well sell more on PS3 than NG/NGB did on Xbox and if that happens I doubt we'll see NG2 being time exclusive on 360.

Yeah I got to the boss Vhard. Needless to say, "He's dead Jim!" Meaning me.:lol :lol :lol

It was worse. They added the option for the user to control the camera in NG Black.

What did it sell on XBox? I don't really think NGS will outsell it, but I'm not 100% sure of its sales.

I'm sure combined it broke a mil. NGS might outsell it in the long term, considering it might sell like 50 copies in Japan.

I had the most luck with the two-handed sword on Very Hard, although the best I've ever done is got to Murai with a sliver of health left and got my ass kicked. The purple ninjas are annoying as hell, guard breaking with their windmill shruikens and the third hit on their main combo, and doing that uncounterable grab move.

One thing I've never liked about Ninja Gaiden is the tougher enemies have obnoxiously cheap grab moves that do tons of damage and have no counter against. Properly balanced, it should work something like block > strike > grab > block, where you can't block a grab move, but a well-timed attack will interrupt it. But you usually can't stun them during their grab animation.

The problem was that the game (normal Ninja Gaiden) wasn't hyped enough. There was only hype after the release.

As I recall, Ninja Gaiden + Ninja Gaiden Black is at around 600,000 for North America. I don't know about Europe and Japan is pretty much null all said and considered.

The Dabilahro kills very quickly and with a minimum of effort. It is slow, however, and you might get tagged trying to use it. square, square, triangle, triangle = anything but the boss is dead, and it can kill multiple people at once. One of the better weapons for killing people within the time limit as the kills are quick and you can't do that many hits to them after they're dead so they go ahead and dissolve. The Lunar is the second weakest weapon in terms of power, but it is very fun to play with and as noted previously, very good crowd control.

Well, you just have to get out of the way :P

But I want to know which weapon can kill enemies the fastest. I'm trying to get high scores, and you have to defeat groups of enemies within a time limit to get bonus points.

This is probably one of the most replayable demos I've seen in quite some time. It's just very enjoyable playing through again with different weapons.

I wasn't even intending on buying Sigma, but it's at the top of my wanted list now for the near-future.

It'd be nice if they could patch in some Home trophies latterly. There's lots of scope for rewards.

The power of downloadable demos! There's no reason for developers not to want to do these. As long as the game is good, it's powerful.

devs really need to understand how powerful downloadable demos are, one of the reasons Lost Planet and Dead Rising got attention was because people really enjoyed the demos, now Sigma is getting people to buy NG again. Actually, the Motorstorm demo sold me on the game, im happy it was up for download.

Agreed.

I was considering waiting until Simga went down in price, or was available used ... or maybe even passing entirely

After playing the demo, I'm probably getting it day one.

Demo is fun, but didn't sell me yet. I have NG and NG Black, didn't think Sigma looked all that amazing. It looks nice, but really from what I saw like a hi-res slighty improved NG. Bring on NG2 I say. For those who didn't play it on Xbox though, it must be a treat.

Srsly, also the fact that the Sigma demo came out a full two months before the game's release leaves people salivating for more. Sony/3rd party devs really need to learn to get demos up long before the game ships instead of afterwards.

Agreed. I wasn't at all interested in this game, even with all the hype, until I played the demo. I'm sure I will purchase this now (just not sure when).

*Looks at game collection* Over a third of the games in my collection would have never been purchased had I not played a demo first.

Yeah, I was disappointed Chapter 1 is identical to the X-Box version other than some graphical improvements. They should have done something to make it interesting. Like you intentionally drop down the trap door thinking the path to the samurai fangs are down there just like before, and you plummet to your death, with the fangs moved somewhere else.

Finally beat the demo on Very Hard after probably 20 tries, using Dabilharo until finding the Flying Swallow scroll, then spamming that for the rest of the level. I don't think I'm even going to attempt Master Ninja.
