Ninja Gaiden: Sigma demo out

I agree with this. It just feels right. The XBOX controller (both of them) feel so much more clunky in comparison.

Have you seen the camera in sigma?
Have you seen the camera in Genji?!?! It's 1000000x worse than the camera in Sigma. Genji II essentially prevents you from properly viewing anything. The game constantly selects the worst possible angles forcing you to rely on a map instead. There is no comparison here.

Now, if you are talking about Genji 1, that's a tad different as Genji used pre-set camera angles ala Onimusha 3.

lolz it was a joke post silly :P

So the camera in Sigma is worse than the camera in Black? That sounds sad. But they can always make changes in the final version if enough people complain to them.

Sixaxis+Ninja Gaiden = Excellence.

Playing NG with the Controller S feels clumpsy now.

The camera is the same as the original but with the added method to rotate the camera that was added in one of the Hurricane packs. Oh and I think it was in NG:Black as well.

Wow - I never played the games on XBOX, but I can now see what the fuss was about.

This game majorly rocks.

Question though. The door to the inter Sanctum is locked. How do I open the door or where do I go to progress furthur in the demo?

How come there are no cool combo videos of NG/B like the assloads that are there for DMC3?

The demo release of Sigma got me interested in seeing some high-level play, but there's like none.

That's because Ninja Gaiden is an Action game series, not a 'combo game'. :)

You should look at the 1up Show where they interviews the development team [a month ago?]. They compared the combos in the two series quite well.

Kintaro is right. You can't do anywhere near the amount of craziness, that you can in DMC3.

I think the craziness is based on defeating the insane enemy AI. NG is really all about the gamer's skill. But the site I posted has plenty of free form combo stuff as well as high level playing like beating the strongest enemy in the game with only a level 1 wooden sword in Master Ninja mode.

DMC3 is all about the players skill as well.:D

I wasn't talking about the A.I. I'm sure we will see something like "Ryu parrying a hundred orbs" or something, when he can switch weapons on the fly :D

And, i'm not even getting ready to go down the road, some of you just paved. lol

Thanks. I watched some vids...kinda boring to watch to be honest. :P Like OSG says, I guess DMC3 is just much crazier, cooler and astronomically more styllish than NG.

I'm not getting into the whole combo/action genre bullshit, but I'll just say that of both games, only one has an actual combo hit counter, and it's not DMC. :P

Well honestly it's not much of a combo counter.. more of a "how many you've killed in a row at a certain time". And honestly while I feel DMC3 is a good game, it just doesn't match up to NG in terms of gameplay. Of course this debate has been done in every NG thread and C- as well as other DMC3 fans always say something about it but really DMC3 isn't nearly as great as NG is in terms of gameplay. It's like:

The approach:

NG: Enemies come at you cautiously, looking for an opening.
DMC3: Enemies kind of stand there for a short time.

The attack:

NG: Enemies attack you in different ways, most enemies have a set of combos and other attacks just like Ryu does.
DMC3: Enemies have about one or two attacks and they mainly just fly at you. Nothing really special here, lots of enemies.

The boss battles in DMC3 were a joke. Even Virgil who was slightly harder than most of them in some ways was pretty easy to defeat. NG has one easy boss battle which is the tentacle thing but that's it.

The feel NG gives me is one I like a lot more than when I played DMC3 as well. DMC3 is a fast and fun experience, NG is more of a skill based experience. I feel like I'm actually accomplishing something and also brushing up on my skills in the game by just playing it regularly.

When all you are doing is dial a combo's, it gets much less impressive over time and you soon cross a point where you've pretty much seen everything the game has to offer. With DMC3, people were continually finding new ways of doing things because of the free form combat engine.

DMC is about mass slaughter and how to effectively do that. NG is more about finding an opening and preventing the enemy from getting an opening on you. The enemies in NG are much more defensively minded than in DMC, so to take the same approach as one would take in DMC doesn't really get you very far, and may even get you killed.

DMC isn't much more "free from" than NG. In fact, I'd say the biggest difference is that DMC has faster recovery times for some moves, which can lead to easier combo's, and is combo based, where as Ninja Gaiden has combo's that have recovery time to reinforce positive strategy and use, which negates combo's.

The purpose of DMC is to combo and be flashy.

The purpose of NG is to be intelligent, attack openings, and defend accordingly. neither engine is more or less "free form".

It's not that DMC has a faster recovery time, it's that you can interrupt the animation of any one given move and cancel it into another. With active weapon swapping, this blows the door open on the combat engine.

The purpose of DMC is to combo and be flashy.

The purpose of NG is to be intelligent, attack openings, and defend accordingly. neither engine is more or less "free form".

See, this is the beauty of DMC3, you can either use combo's and be flashy or you can play the game with a focus of defense. Just use Royal Guard and you'll have to be intelligent, attack openings and defend accordingly.

Eh, I dunno. I think the controller scheme is very similar across platforms. I prefer the Xbox scheme because I like the bigger controller, but both control just fine IMO.

For me it's the reverse... but then again, I played NG and NGB pretty heavily on the Xbox, so the Xbox controller feels more familiar for it.

So whens this out then and will it be a downloadable like Warhawk?

It's coming in June and it won't be downloadable although Hayashi did mention that the entire game can be installed to the HDD. I don't know if that means the game will still be required to play, but it's a great addition to lessen load times.

Nice option, though loads times aren't exactly an issue anyway with Ninja Gaiden.

It's as nice as the Xbox controller feel-wise, but I kind of miss the vibration.

Yep. Crap, how could I've forgotten that. Hit detection is much easier with rumble. I can't wait till Sony or Logitech release a good rumble controller for the PS3.

They weren't an issue while playing, but the game did require a lengthy caching process on XBOX. I'm sure the full installation option here will simply remove that process as long as the data is present (it would automatically be deleted on XBOX after other games were played).

This demo just sold me Sigma (and an HDTV for myself), $59.99 and all. The graphics are ****ing spectacular, putting nearly every next gen game out to shame. The character models, textures, hell even the lighting look absolutely incredible. Everyone who says this only looks slightly better than Black need their eyes checked badly as the differences between the two are are massive.

June can't come soon enough.

Finally managed to get into the top 100 with Rachel. on highest difficulty

And somewhere in the hundreds with Ryu on Master Ninja setting...

so where are you guys ranked?

Yep. It does look awesome. I'm buying it and I already own NG and NGB.

The last I checked I was ranked 70-something for Rachel on Master Ninja. I haven't faired as well with Ryu yet.

Final boxart:

Played the demo on my old co-workers uber tv.
It definitely looks like the "bullshots" and in motion it just looks sickeningly slick..
PS3 owners are lucky to get such a amazing port.

Has Ninja Gaiden ever not been shipped with great box art?

I just realized - I would crap my pants if Ninja Gaiden 2 had multiplayer.

I saw the collector's edition on the EB site last night... anyone planning to go for that? (sorry if this has been asked already)

From the EB site:
This Collectors Edition will be a 2-disc set with special hi-res packaging, a behind the scenes DVD from Team Ninja, and special codes to unlock Ryu and Rachael mission modes.

I guess that last part about special missions could be worth $10, but sounds like a "pass" to me. I don't know what "hi-res packaging" even means. Does it shoot light into my eyes?

Chances are uber slim though. I'd drool all over if that happened too.

7th place on Master Ninja difficulty with Ryu. I'm probably in the thousands for Rachel's mission.

The online ranking adds a bit of replay value to the game. I hope DMC4 adds one similar to this. They could base it on Style points, time, and damage taken.
