Nintendo 3DS: new fimrware update available (10.6.0-31)

Nope, the feature is actually there explicitly for this purpose.
Okay, I will give it a shot then. Just tried again normally and it's still not working, so.

EDIT: Aaaand no dice. I do notice that right before I am forced to restart, my wireless signal goes from 'Internet' to 'Enabled'. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

What is the best website to go to for 3ds hacking info? I have a 3ds XL and I am curious about customer firmwares and such, and I am willing to buy a Sky3ds if I have to in order to enable it. I'm on 10.5.0 - 30u, but I'm having trouble finding concrete information on how to actually install cfw on a 3ds. At one point, I had browserhax installed, but I use my 3ds so rarely that I forget how to activate it, or if it even works any more.

It does sound like you're having connection issues.

Gimme more of that stability.

Unfortunately you're out of luck. The last downgradable firmware which is required for the installation of custom firmware was 10.3.0

Really interesting if a bunch of the core apps are updated in Japan only. Curious what's the reason for that. Personally I just hope that Nintendo will give a new update that add one final new feature. It's been a while, and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to call the badges a new feature since it's pretty old in Japan already.

Reports from 3dbrew suggest that the only changes were to the digital manuals, though that still leaves the question of what exactly is different.

Regarding new features, I suspect the 3DS might get an interesting update or two once Nintendo Account based services actually start rolling out.

Goddamnit, just before the release of Pokémon n3DS I have preordered -_-
3DS systems takes months to manufacture so those systems won't be on firmware 10.6...they might even be on 10.3.

wonder how much longer the 3ds will get firmware updates/be supported.

i ain't hacking it till firmware updates are done, wanna make sure i won't lose anything and everything homebrew is safe, i have so much crap on mine i will be very sad to lose.
If you had started hacking earlier (when 10.3 was still the newest firmware) you could have a safe emunand (sandboxed CFW) setup running right now. You could still have now provided your 3DS is on firmware 10.3 or less.

Now...who knows when that will be possible.

The eShop already has hooks for coupons and some other things. Cloud saves I wonder if the save transfer app is going to be updated given it has to connect to the Internet in order to opperate already.

Updated modules:
  • Sockets system-module (basically the API for communicating over the network))
  • IR system module
  • NFC system module (Both Old and New 3DS variants)
  • Home Menu
  • Internet Browser (Both Old and New 3DS variants)

Now what's really interesting is that there are several modules that only got updated in Japan. These are:
  • System Settings
  • Activity Log
  • Nintendo 3DS Camera App
  • Nintendo 3DS Sound App
  • Mii Maker

Basically, a bunch of the core apps got updated, but only in Japan. If anyone has a Japanese 3DS it would be interesting to see if there are any obvious changes.

I didn't notice anything obvious on my JN3DS, but I haven't gone into any of the updated apps since I updated last night.

Update time. Sure enough, I woke up this morning to my 3DS having a blue notification light. Updated fine. Thanks for the help, guys. I guess the whole thing with it not downloading was just Nintendo being Nintendo.

There was a response from a customer service rep which implied that cloud saves are coming sooner, rather than later. It's possible that could get implemented as an app, but it seems more likely that that would be an OS thing.

Reggie on the 3DS really makes that gif! xD

Probably Nintendo Account stuff no doubt. But weird how they only changed the manuals for Japan. Might not really be anything just other than making it better documented but still.

So, my system said it's done installing the update and will restart. But now I'm left with a black screen (well, two actually) and nothing's happening.

One manual reboot later and it seems to be fine.
