Nintendo 3DS North American Launch

i've been positive about ghost recon since day one. excellent developer who's passionate about the system, fantastic sounding gameplay and a distinct lack of competition at launch (it fills the advance wars gap nicely). the 3D is apparently amazing too

As a whole ubisoft's lineup is abominable but it still beats the shit out of what they had on wii/ds at launch

here's hoping we see a PROPER rainbow six game at some point in the future where you can draw your route in a level

No, just a world where the gaming "majority" are idiot dudebros.
I bet he has like four Xs in his username on BLA and talks shit in Reach coop.

Are there any 3DS "cases" that just house the games, about 4-6? I don't want a full case, just something for the games and maybe an accessory or two.
I'm using this thing ("White Nintendo DS Game Card Case") from Club Nintendo - it's for standard DS games but it works fine with 3DS game carts, costs 300 points:

Is anyone else turned off by Ghost Recon's art style and story? As a Fire Emblem fan, I am really considering picking it up, and I understand that the story/art doesn't stray far from the source material...but...well, I guess I'm not a fan of the source material. Haha.

I'm in the same boat.

Don't forget the claim that there's no digital distribution or indie developer support.

That's complete hogwash. The slider does not change anything other than the strength of the 3D effect.

Actually, having played with one - I can see why someone would say that. Moving the slider up, makes the two images displayed by the parallax barrier LCD appear to move apart, and with your face closer to the system, the distance between each of your eyes increases relative to the closeness of the screen. So you would need to move the slider up to maintain a sweet spot you attained when holding the device further away. I think a lot of this eye-strain comments are coming from people who simply think that the 3d slider increases 3D volume, and are turning it all the way up, when in actuality - moving the slider performs a calibration of the two images to better suit your eyes.

The wait between now and Sunday is going to suck. I'm thinking Amazon will get it to me by Tuesday, but during the actual work week, time flies. :(

So I ordered from Amazon a long time ago. When will it actually arrive? Next Tuesday? I was hoping to play it this weekend.
Yeah, Amazon is estimating Tuesday. You definitely won't have it this weekend, the system launches on Sunday and Amazon doesn't deliver on Sunday (well, their grocery service does...).

Lies, you were crapping on it for being a DS port the whole time.

Uh... That's not true at all. The 3D slider increases 3D volume - that's it. The stronger it is the harder your brain has to work to sort the visual information out, which is why it causes problems for most people who haven't experience with naked-eye 3D in the past.

There are no physical changes made when the slider is adjusted. All it does is move the two in-game cameras further apart.

So he just doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about.

Man, you've gotta use a STYLUS! We haven't seen that since the Palm Pilots from the 90's! The iPhone dominates the gadget market today. Game over man, game over!

Thanks guys. For some reason I thought that the 3DS games would be slightly different enough that they wouldn't fit in something like the normal DS cases.
Well, some cases have the card holders that are really tall and they won't work with the 3DS cards - nor will hard-plastic clamshells meant to fit to the form of the card. I mean, I guess they could with a little modification, but the cards won't fit right off the bat.

This man speaks the truth. Moving the slider does nothing to the viewing distance.

Damn. I had a Castlevania mini-card case that I got with Portrait of Ruin. Guess I'll use that with my regular DS games and get that game case from Play Asia.

Modification? What if you break it and the 3D leaks out? But seriously, do those tabs do anything besides prevent the cards from being placed in the original DS? I don't know what other purpose they could possible serve.

Still need to figure out what launch games I'm getting. Probably Pilotwings, but other than that, not sure...

I'm facing the same dilemma. SSF4 3D has been hailed as the best one, but I'm not a Street Fighter fan. Nothing else is that appealing either. I guess I'll wait for more reviews of Ghost Recon.

It's funny. I been busy with sooo many things and yet, it still feels like the longest week this year. I'm really leaning towards Ridge Racer or Ghost Recon to go with Pilot Wings.

Someone break the tab off a 3ds game and stick it in their ds. I'm positive it would just not recognize it, but do it for science!

I'm with you, I'd probably already have it if it were an original IP, and I'd be way less wary of the quality if it had any other publisher.

That's all it's for. Idiot-proofing, I guess.

In any case, games to get if you don't already have them for the DS:

Radiant Historia

Seriously, do it. One of the best JRPGs of all time.

Hold up, hold up... Amazon has a grocery service?!?

Really have been contemplating Radiant Historia ever since the Japanese release thread. It had some great concepts.

Alas, I need to go back to Dragon Quest VI (probably this weekend) after giving Pokemon Black all the attention. Unfortunately, I can't really afford it at the time being after laying down a preorder for SSFIV3DE

It's fucking amazing. All long RPGs should find a way to shoehorn in the timeline mechanics, because damn.

seconded.
My dsi broke this week and now the most exciting thing about my 3ds will be I get to play radiant historia again. And okamiden, and 9 hours.

I didn't mean to intimate that something physical happens with the screen, the two cameras moving apart is exactly what I meant. Your brain does better interpret those crossed images depending on your distance from the machine and the position of the slider... significant movement towards or away from your face when you get one will help you verify this effect. So what I'm saying is that there is a sweet spot resulting from a combination of comfortable viewing distance, and suitable 3D setting that will be best for a eyestrain free experience. I seriously defy you to play with one at length on launch day and tell me thats not the case... when I played it, it absolutely was.

I think I'm in for:

Pilotwings
SSFIV3DEXZ Alpha 3.01
Samurai Warriors

and maybe something that looks cool at the store. Bust-A-Move or Monkey Ball perhaps.

Well, I guess I'm getting Ghost Recon and Street Fighter.

Nintendo is serious with this whole wanting 3rd parties to succeed on the 3DS, at least at launch. And look, I'm buying a Nintendo system with no Nintendo games. First time this has happened, and I'm not sure what to think. I am glad it forced me to watch tons of videos because otherwise I would have never know Ghost Recon was a tactical RPG. The name Tom Clancy made my eyes completely glaze over, and automatically went on my 'no thank you' list. Hopefully it's good, but even if it's not perfect Amazons game deals should help to cushion any disappointment.
