So for those of you who have replaced your 3DS due to a loose left hinge, how loose was it? My left hinge is looser than my right one which is pretty stationary. I'm trying to decide whether I should go ahead and do it. The 3DS definitely clicks in place when you push it back so it isn't as loose as the one on the Youtube video. Thanks for your replies.
Nintendo said it's supposed to be lose. Having more give means it's less likely to crack.

Yes, but when it first came out you were five years old....I was 15. You were learning how to ride your bike when I was learning to drive a car. :(
I was working at Nintendo as a gameplay counselor telling people about how great the Virtual Boy is :P Mine only cost me $140 because I bought it from the Nintendo employees-only store.

Edit: Darn, figured the thread was moving fast enough to put some space between the two posts...

Switched my 3DS to Google's DNS and it's working fine. I might as well switch all my computers over, too.

EDIT: OH. MY. GOD. Everything is loading faster now. I really wish I had done this sooner.

Well, went around town today. Hit the mall and Best Buy (picked up Nostalgia and the Pull and Go Folio). Only got one Street Pass hit.
=/
Hopefully in a month I'll be getting more, but this isn't a big gaming town.

I may take mine with me to Disneyland on Monday. Sure to get a hit there.

Wait what? How?

I'm getting a larger capacity SDHC in exchange for the default SD card that came with the 3DS, but I'm not sure what data the 3DS keeps on the SD card. Is there anyway I can check or is everything (like Miis, SSFIV online data, Nintendogs save file) kept on the SD card by default?

Did you ever get a profile picture in Nintendo Power?

The Data Management option gives a list of stuff, but honestly, right now, you're free to just copy everything over and it'll work fine.

Quick about to pick up a 3rd game: Ridge Racer or Steel Diver?
Those are probably the two best games. Ridge Racer is neat in 3D first-person mode, but the gameplay gets repetitive. Steel Diver is classic trial-and-error fun, and the 3D makes some of the stages look amazing (like an underwater volcano).
I'd say Steel Diver if I had to pick one.

The hell is a DNS and what do i dooooo
It's like speed dial. Instead of typing out a phone number, you just hold 3 or something. DNS lets you type in "google.com" instead of their actual IP address. Comcast's is fucking awful and shits out on me all the time so I have to manually turn my modem on and off to get internet access again, but by switching to Google's DNS I think I fixed the problem.

Thanks for turning my world upside down. Google DNS is effing amazing.

Asked around elsewhere but I figured here would be as good a place as any.

Anyone try to fit a 3DS game into one of those Stylus Set's from Club Nintendo? I was wondering if it would fit with a little work as they seem in pictures pretty close in size, just with the notch on the top corner.

I changed my router and Google seemed a touch slower. But this is great info to have on the semi-frequent instances where Comcast is running horrible. Never knew you could change this. No more outages for me in the future. Wrote the numbers down for future reference.

I use the "White Nintendo DS Game Card Case", 3DS games fit fine in that one.

Also, does the 3DS have better speakers than the DS? I have my 3DS unit in surround sound mode and to be honest I think the sound quality blows away what the DS pumped out. I'm not even using headphones yet on my 3DS.

Yes, the speakers do appear to be slightly better. Headphone output for DS games remains the same, though, so it will disappoint anyone expecting DS games to sound better on a 3DS when using headphones. I had to send mine back due to minor defects but from the brief period I spent with it this seems the case. I'd need more time comparing to be certain. Thankfully 3DS game sound quality is on par with PSP games assuming the audio samples aren't too compressed for space reasons.

I haven't tried Steel Diver personally but I went with Ridge Racer since I prefer fast-paced arcade style games. I have no clue why, but, when 3D is on, RR3D reminds me of how I felt when I first played early racing games in arcades a long time ago. The effect also makes me freak out when I'm too close to a wall. 3D really adds to my enjoyment for that game; it's also been a long time since I've played RR in general.

Went to Best Buy today they had a lot of systems lying around.

Word is that Nintendo overshipped to make sure there's supply to go around. Plus, it's April. Plus, it's $250 and we're in a recession.

Even so, the launch seems successful. I really can't see this being anything but a smashing success.

Don't forget we're in the middle of three wars, the earthquake in Japan, the Royal Wedding coming up this month, and whatever else I'm sure I missed.

I wonder if Prince Williams will get a 3DS as a wedding gift.

Yes I am personally holding off on my 3DS purchase until the Royal Wedding is over.

It's just odd seeing a new console not being sold out. That will change soon though hopefully.

Am I the only one that hates that you have to press the Home button to go back to Home? Why not give me a virtual button?
Err, huh?
Why would you want a button on the touch screen taking up space?

I don't understand. Do you mean for 3DS OS apps or everything? Because it's dumb that the baked in apps need me to press the button, but I'm not expecting Ghost Recon to have a home button on every screen.

It wouldn't take any extra space because there's a message right on the botton saying "Return to Home Menu".

I don't mean inside the games, but the OS apps.

Yeah, I get what you mean and I sort of agree. I figure it'd be easy to patch it, but I doubt they'd change it in the future.

With the built in apps, it would be easier if that text was actually a button, because if i'm already using a stylus it would be easier to hit that button than hit the home button, but this wouldn't be very high on my priority list.

Yeah I picked up a 2nd 3DS in hopes I could upsell it. I might have to sit on it until Christmas. I have a feeling when the lineup beefs up a bit and more people are playing online the system will really sell like hot cakes over holidays.

Oh also, I think it's sort of stupid that when switching between OS apps, you HAVE to suspend them, and then you HAVE to close them. Like, what's the point of suspending them if you're gonna make me close it in the first place?

Oh, OK. I agree with you. It's silly that they waste that space when it could be a button. Maybe they're worried about people accidentally hitting it?

Because you can open features like Friends List, Notes, Notifications and the Broswer while in suspend.
Otherwise, it would be a huge resource hog for no reason to be able to have a bunch of applications open at once.
