I'm actually fairly impressed with the AR stuff.

The AR target shooting game and the billards game is very fun, and gamey.

The fishing game is relaxing.

The only things I felt were tacked on were the clock and the globe.

Try the face merge option with the camera. It works extremely well... it's hilarious.

Where in the hell is that anyway? I haven't bothered poking around too much, but where can you find the option to do that?

Do you mean the thing in 3DS Camera? There are two ways to access the face merge:

1. At the Home menu, push L or R to activate the camera. Push the button on the bottom screen to activate Face Merge.

2. In 3DS Camera, touch the red lever at the left of the bottom screen. Of the buttons that pop up, hit the Left one. A lot of special effects (including Low Light mode and "Mystery Camera," the best thing ever) appear here. Touch the Face Merge one.

Also, Face Merge didn't work out for me (black) and a friend (white). My face on her face looked something like:
sonic-the-hedgehog.jpg

where my dark skin was patched on her mouth. :(

You're doing it wrong. You were supposed to throw the cards away!

:lol Ignorance is bliss for those people, until the day comes they find out what they missed on.

Anyway, I've actually been playing chinatown wars (never had a ds when it came out) the most and it doesn't look too bad. Plays great too.

Yeah, I just tried to merge myself and a picture of Stephen Colbert. It did not work out so well. :P

Take them out and smell the new game goodness.

I love the smell of newly printed glossy paper.

What really impresses me are the 3D pictures of games that were converted to fit the 3DS, they show the affect of 3D incredibly well.

I actually disagree, somewhat. The 3D in many of them felt like "disconnected flat layers", while objects and environments in actual games running in 3D have a cohesive volume to them. It's hard to explain, but I get that feeling a lot in 3D images and photos, maybe it's the motion that completes the illusion for me, don't know. The 3D in some of the pictures does look great though.

Oh I tried the music visualizer yesterday... was a bit disappointed (damn GAF for overhyping everything), wish there was a way to remove the HUD from the top display... and not every one of them is playable, right? For example Exite Bike, I couldn't control anything in it.

The "mystery" camera mode is so stupid. Come on, Nintendo.
What, the Mystery Camera mode is awesome. It's best if you take pictures of a few faces (like in Face Merge) before you use it, though.

Then take lots of pictures of faces in Mystery Camera. Fun times will be had.

Hmm... Fine, fine.

The face merge option is a little face icon if you start the camera by pressing the L or R buttons on the Home Screen.

If you start the full camera application, it's under the effects menu (the lever icon).

After just using the system for a few hours I already wish it had a matte finish and not this gloss. Makes my hands sweat or at least it seems like it's from that.

Personally, I despised the matte finish on my DSi. Felt like a chalkboard. Such a relief to be back to gloss.

So my replacement system from Amazon should be here today.

I'm just wondering, should I format the old system's memory before I send it back?

Yeah, the matte finish on the DSi is.. strange. Although I still preferred it to the gloss of the DS Lite.

The matte finish on the GBA SP and OG DS was PHENOMENAL, on the other hand.

I would have to agree, I feel like I am almost wiping the thing down because the specks of dust drive me crazy.. my Dsi-XL was so much better.

Yeah, some of the 3D photos didn't look to great, but there were quite a few that had an excellent 3D effect.

there are 19 i think - i didn't buy the Sudoku 3D puzzle pack thing (even though it has the GODLIKE Slitherlink included (because i have Slitherlink DS))

Gundam 3D - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSJyRprSYuI

some of the trailers make the graphics look crappy - but it looks pretty damned nice. More importantly, it's fun to play! My favourite game on it to date by a LONG long shot.

edit : another good trailer : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vj-SLJWwgI
Been playing this all last night and its damn fun. I've played the Gundam Battle series on the PSP and its basically the same gameplay and same assets, but there are some noticeable additions like self shadowing and anti-aliasing. At its core, its basically a port compilation of all the PSP previous incarnations with some newer units (i.e. Unicorn), but the 3D effect really makes me not worry about playing the "same game" the 4th time around. :3

Although not the prettiest game, the 3D effect is probably the best out of all the 3DS games so far with BlazBlue being the best stylistically. You can really feel the depth in the level with the bullets, beam blasts, and missles flying in and out of the screen. The best sense of 3d is definitely in the space levels. With the space debris flying all over the place and even with the cheesy lens flare, it feels awesome battling in space. With the minor graphical additions, it gives you the overall feeling of playing with Gundam models when the 3D slider is on.

Scamco did get mad lazy by not adding any touch screen controls (at least to my limited japanese) which could have helped with some of the combined button inputs for the charge moves. Regardless, a really fun game like the previous titles with a great 3D experience. :3

Doubt it gets localized though. =\

I still have no clue why I can't get online, I feel like I am missing out on a huge amount of stuff (updates, 3dsware, online play, friend list etc.). =(

It finds my acces point and I enter my password for the router, but as soon as it does the connection test it simply fails.

I think my router is WEP-secured, how do I change all of this?

So what is the word on the black screen error at this point? Are we supposed to send it in for repair, or are they working on a patch fix?

I would like to know the answer to this as well. It's happened about 3 times on my 3DS, seemingly randomly.

I guess it's too early but did Nintendo give us any indication of NA sales? It's over a week and normally we hear first day numbers.
They just said they'd wait for the NPD release, so another 9 days yet.

Gravijah said:
Why would they do that? :(

Because they're probably good, not great. I am surprised it looks like we won't get any first week numbers, however, which would presumably be higher than the NPD numbers.

Just to add to my wireless problems with the 3DS, I have the "Dlink DIR-855" and is trying to look for something at support.dlink.com. Does anyone know how to put up a WPA connection instead of my WEP?

Go into the router's config page and change it from WEP to WPA?

What are your impressions on BlazBlu? I didn't know it was already out on 3DS.

Dammit ARKSYS, send it here already!

Finally got to try Pilotwings today. The guy at EB let me test their "dead" copy before buying it. Holy crap, after playing Street Fighter, I didn't expect such a dramatic 3D effect from another game. Street Fighter doesn't do the 3D capabilities of the system justice. Pilotwings looks fantstic.

I picked it up!

I think I just created a WPA2 connection through the support link on the Internet, though it still won't connect with my 3DS - I'm a total noob at this I admit.

Edit: or maybe I didn't. Probably never won't get this 3DS online lol.
Why does it need to be so hard Nintendo/Dlink!?

I highly recommend you download your router's manual and follow the instructions from it. All you should have to do is go to the router's "website" on your intranet (your local network) and then just change the security settings, put in a WPA password, and save the changes.

Question: has anyone had issues on the screen? like obvious graphic problems? it only happens when I go from a game to the home screen, like it will flash messed up black lines?

My 3ds has about 15 hours on it and it runs the games and OS fine but twice now it has freaked out when pushing the home button, it always goes home and fixes itself but it is scary.

Log into your router's IP first. Then. go to this screen on your router (manual wireless setup):
http://support.dlink.com/Emulators/dir855/Basic_Wireless.html <--- you can use this to practice, just as I did lol.

At the bottom, there is a drop-down list. Select "WPA Personal"
Leave the WPA mode setting at auto, along with the default of TKIP and AES on cipher type.

Then, define your preshared key (i.e. wireless password). Could be anything as long as you remember it. It can be numbers or letters or both. For instance, you could make it your cell number. Or the word "penis".

This will be the code you use on your 3DS after scanning for networks and selecting yours.

That's a real detailed explanation I will use, but as dumb as I can be, how do I log into my routers IP? On the device itself or on the internet, through a software cd?

You log in via your computers browser.

Anastacio said:

StevieP linked to a practice router page that's just for seeing how the router works.

To log into your actual Router you type your router's IP in the address bar, like http://192.168.1.1 or whatever it is.

Its BlazBlue. :p I havent played CS on the consoles, but its probably more meaty content wise. The 3D effect is very pop-up storybook like but it drops the framerate slightly. :(
