Yes, I see an option to link a NNID in the account settings. When I click it asks to sign in with your NNID.

The nickname is not really like a gamertag. You can change it to whatever you want, as many times as you want, and others can use the same name. Everyone can be Mario and Luigi if they want.

That's what it seems like, since my nickname is currently just my Mii name (taken from my NNID) and I'm sure there are thousands of Miis that have my generic first name...

Sorry, but the initial 16 country miitomo rollout does not contain your country. You are in the My Nintendo account regions though.

You can change country of residence in the profile at least, though the current selection is pretty limited (I imagine it'll be expanded as time goes on though)
