Nintendo Art Style - bit Generations for WiiWare

Ok... I beat level 11 and decided to take a break. I had about 25 extra lives. Played a little bit of mega man9 and went right back to Orbient. Loaded up my save game and it saved all the levels I beat but did not save my extra lives. It started me out with 4 I believe (the amount you start the game with) Anyway, am I missing something or does it not save your extra lives period?

like the GBA game, lifes are not saved there. but you can gain them easily by beating early levels with extra satellites.

This is the case. Really annoying, probably the only black eye on the game. There's really no point in the level select because you typically would want to go back a fair number of levels to build up lives.

I see... I remember a level or two where you could stack a bunch of satellites so I'll be able to deal with it. At least you don't lose your satellites when you crash into something and lose a life. That would be torturous.

Can't be done either. The way I see it is the farther you get, the harder the levels will be and the more you will need those extra lives. So extra lives don't save, but let's say we load up the game and play level 5 to rack up some lives and go back to where you last left off. But no, hold it right there! When you start a new level from stage select screen, you will always start out with 5 lives. Extra lives only carry over through continuous play though. That is my least favorite part of this awesome game.

The music is what makes this game great for me. Don't get me wrong, the game play is really fun and challenging but when you start collecting satellites it gets even better. When you get a 4th satellite the music gets better and the more you get after that, the better the music will get as well. The special moon satellite music is great! When I hear that music it reminds me of a cut scene where your getting up out of bed in a hospital in some Final Fantasy game. It's a relief to get the special moon satellite say if you had only 3 satellites orbiting you at the time.

Which levels are you having trouble with? How many are there in the game? I'm on 30 and have yet to see a level that is even close to requiring even 5 lives. Particularly when there are black holes (why bother continuing? Just retry if you get sucked in).

It's not that I'm stuck (yet). I have played 15 levels or so but its getting more difficult and I can imagine level 50 is prob. crazy. 50 levels in the game. But I've died more than 5 times a lot. I guess I'm getting better but sometimes when your going straight at a planet with no other planets around, no matter how long you hold in B, you'll crash right into it. I guess I just don't like being robbed of those skillfully earned extra lives you take time to build up. I'll get over it

I have a friend in Canada that was thinking about getting this but it's 900 points for him. Did the game go up in price or something?

God I love working for an import gaming company. I own all of the bitGenerations games, and they are so good. I'm really hoping for a Digidrive and Dotstream remake next.

This is too awesome. Purchasing now.

Shouldn't be. I bought it a few days ago at 600 points in Canada.

Here is a pic he took:

It's still 600 points for me to gift though.

So I bought it and I played it for about an hour and a half (while simultaneously watching The Office). This version is just as fun as the GBA one. Admittedly it's a bit stale for me because I played a bejeezus out of the GBA version, but it was absolutely worth 6 bucks.

For those of you who haven't ever played Orbital, this game is a great way to just sit and space out (no pun intended). It has a bit of the "Lumines" effect. My one problem with it is that it's such a great game to play while you're starting to fall asleep, but every time you beat a level, your screen goes white, which takes me out of the trance and wakes me up every time.

tl;dr: This game is fantastic and worth 6 bucks, even if you already have Orbital.

Next games out of the Ranks will be

ROTOHEX (Dialhex)

CUBELLO (Dunno what it's a remake of)

Yeah thought so after reading Wikipedia on it, seems to be about Squares.

If Nintendo actually renamed Coloris to Cubello they deserve a kick in the pants.

Coloris contains no cubes as it is 2D in every way. The shape of the tile doesn't matter at all, and in fact, isn't always a square. The game is completely about colors, not shapes.

And Cubello would be a terrible name for any game. Ugh. I hope the name isn't justified by giving the Wiiware version 3D graphics. The original had perfect visual design with no irrelevant elements.

Rotohex I'm happy to see though since I didn't buy Dialhex.

Dialhex is great! Coloris is good.

But why are they renaming all of these? Is there some kind bizarre copyright reason?

I am a little disappointed that they're going with the two most similar games to release next. Either one of those and Dotstream or Digidrive would have been a much better choice that would have brought a bit more diversity. Oh well, hopefully all the games are released, although I think Sound Voyager might be hard to do given the need for headphones for the game.

Orbient I understand, since orbital is a word on its own. But Dialhex? *shrug*

Cos like we Westerners can't understand these crazy Japanese names.

Who knows...back when six of them were ESRB rated for the GBA as the Digiluxe series, they had similar name changes. Orbital became Orbiter, Coloris became Chromatron, and Dialhex became Rotohex. Dotstream, Boundish, and Soundvoyager retained their original names. Digidrive wasn't rated at all.

It's funny how many names the series has had. First announced as Digitylish, registered in America as Digiluxe, released in Japan as Bit Generations, and now released in the US as Art Style.

Dotstream was shown off as Dotliner in the Digitylish trailer and Boundish was listed as Human Pong (or something like that).

By any name, it's a great series of game. :D

There's always the chance that Cubello is a completely new game and not one of the released bit Generations ones.

I expect it. It's extremely implausible for Coloris to have a title that doesn't refer to colors. And apparently there were many other Bit Generations game in production that never came out. One even showed up in the Digitylish trailer-I think it was Eye Ball.

Neopong ;)

And did you know? Rotohex would have been the US name for the GBA version of Dialhex (if it had seen a release there) ;)

Before the GBA games were shown there were other titles trademarked:
Sojourner, Swimworm, T-Typo and Sneakout.

You know, they said that we'd get two more Art Style games THIS month, not 2 games forever!

We'll probably see the rest of the games later on so don't cry about the lack of Dotstream!

ever seen the game? very similar to hexic. hexagons on a dial.
Sure, I meant I don't understand what would cause them to change it, while I can understand why they might want something more unique than "Orbital".

Since this was bumped, can someone give me a hint in level 30? I always die trying to get the yellow planet...

Also I fucking love the music when you have like 13 satellites around you! :D

I absolutely adore how it builds up in the Wii version, the GBA version did not do that. If I recall correctly it only had a song for when you had any satellites at all (which sounded closest to the song when you have four or five in the Wii version) and the song when you get the moon.

Are there any impression on today's release yet?

It's good. Deceptively simple. Very nice sound design, electronic organs with a robot voice.

On the strength of the first two releases, I can safely assume I will be buying the whole series.

Thanks, I bought all the Bit Generation games so I think the same will apply here.

CUBELLO

just beat the game (6 levels), will try the alternatives (each level has 3 versions) and the endless mode. very intuitive puzzle game. nice use of IR. fits so well for a WiiWare release. I can see more of these coming. :D

Well, I haven't played it (fuck you NoE!), but here's a video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym9ERbTLqVY

Seems to be developed by skip as well, even though it's obviosuly quite different from the bit Generations games. Which is nice I guess. The cube in the title animation looks very similar to the Companion Cube from Portal, which made me rewind the video to check again whether Valve was involved or not... ;)

You havn't beaten the game yet... and each level has more than 3 versions. Keep playing. This is a great game btw!!

Wow Cubello is addictive.
Very good and precise use of the Wii pointer.
The music is great but the robotic voice could end up getting on your nerves.
Well worth the 600 points in my opinion!!!

my favorite wiiware game so far is orbient, spacial theme, minimalist, ambient music, the game was made to me :D

what other game do you recomend guys' from bit generations, consider that orbient put a very high mark imo.

Coloris is the one with the most perfect aesthetic, with perfectly minimalist visuals and brilliant sound design by Cornelius. There is no composed music, but all of the game sound effects, as triggered by playing, form an incredible soundtrack. The game design itself isn't nearly as inventive as Orbital, being a match three puzzle game, but it nonetheless is original(as far as the genre goes) and fun.

Dotstream, Digidrive, and Soundvoyager are also all great. Digidrive has the most interesting game design of the whole series, but is the least comprehensible without reading an explanation.
