Nintendo Banning YouTube Livestreams as Part of Nintendo Creators Program

Not sure why everyone's blaming PDP for what Nintendo is doing. They've been against streaming their games way before the PDP fiasco. Nintendo was always sending out takedown notices and demonitizing videos and outright banning streams. They kind of changed their stance for a while with their program and now they're back to what they were doing before. If Sony or MS suddenly changed their methods, you could kind of blame PDP I guess but this has always been Nintendo's M.O.

It's more like, Nintendo was finally starting to come out of their shells with creation of this program, the treehouse stuff, the deeper outreach to the greater community using a number of personalities that people seemed to like. But their inability to control all of it internally was always a point of contention. PDP's antics seemed to be the action that scared them back into their shells.

And honestly, it's fine. Those hurt most by this will be Nintendo themselves as they will not be able to rely on the same grassroots advertising that comes naturally with youtubing and live streaming. If Nintendo thinks they can handle being the sole source of advertising for all of their products going forward (spoilers, they can't), then more power to them.

I'm not saying that doing this is a smart move, it's not. I just understand WHY they're doing it.

This policy by Nintendo only seems to affect those who have registered their entire channel to the creators program. Those who are part of the creators program on a per video basis are unaffected. They even suggest making another account to livestream on if you registered your channel. It's still a weird policy, but it's not as big as it seems.

They've employed shitty practices in the past with a backwards mentality. The PDP defense is a little ridiculous at the moment.

Well that's Nintendo for you. Always half a step ahead, and 10 steps backwards.

So it's a Nintendo JP decision then. Which is surprising to see NoA telling you to go around their policies to stream their games.
