Nintendo: Bayonetta's New Home

I think people make these arguments because they want it on other platforms, frankly. They'd probably be able to bite the bullet of a sequel doing less than its predecessor if it was on a platform they had more interest in, so they can be more content with it just existing.

People are weird like that. The fact many publishers bailed on Bayonetta 2 already gives the impression publishers believe the game would be a failure. The only one who got involved despite this is Nintendo. Somehow, people find that troubling instead of the game being put in purgatory.

Makes ya wonder, would they be okay if they erased every acclaimed game that wasn't a million seller from history?

Looking at Platinum's production history, and considering Bayo 2 and Legend of Korra are mostly done, it would make sense to think Scalebound isn't the only thing they'll be working on when the other two are out. Whether the most-likely something else in the works is something with Nintendo is hard to guess.

Okami-san

Ninty pls

Oh yeah, Vanquish 2 would also be awesome. And the salt coming out of it would be insane.

Vanquish was directed my Mikami, who started Tango Gameworks, which is now under Bethesda. Vanquish is completely owned by Sega. I don't see Nintendo trying to strike a deal with Sega to make a sequel to a game that was not on Nintendo with a different director from the one who created it. Vanquish also makes far less sense for a sequel in terms of story and characterization than Bayonetta, and I don't see Platinum, a dev with a lot of fresh dreams, being too interested.

I do see Nintendo wanting to work with Platinum to do another Nintendo IP, either new or existing, and Platinum being all for working with someone who would support their dreams or put some highly coveted and interesting ones in their hands.

but dat ending tho

i need to finish the fight!

Thats how most Nintendo partnered projects are. Even Devils Third and games like Last Story and Pandoras Tower had Nintendo development teams on them.

Looking up the credentials of Yamagami really surprised me that Nintendo actually assisted in development to those games. That Nintendo-esqe quality isn't found in such games due to the fact they published such titles like a placebo effect of quality, but that they actually helped in making them.

I really hope they're working on MGR2. Kojima said he liked the first game and was happy with the sales so I'm really hoping they strike a deal for a sequel.

Vanquish basically ends on a cliffhanger. If you looked at any of Platinum's games pre-Bayonetta 2 and had to pick out any franchise that would logically extend out to a proper franchise, Vanquish would completely overshadow Bayonetta.

And given that Mikami set up Tango before Vanquish was even out the door, it's safe to say that if there were any ambitions at Sega/Platinum for a proper follow-up, it would have been known from that start that Mikami wouldn't have been at helm. Which isn't a big deal given that Kamiya is literally the only repeat director at that studio. Platinum doesn't need Mikami for a Vanquish 2.

a sequel to one of my favorite games ever on a console i dont play on.

i win and lose

i can be angry if i want to

if no sequel is announced, you simply lose. so..no ;p
also because nobody prevent you in playing on the Wii U apart yourself.
if the game will be announced, you can even wait a couple of years and find a very cheap console + game, play it, and trade the console back in.

btw, it's not gonna happen. I think that if Platinum will develop another Wii U game, it will be a Nintendo franchise.

I'd buy whatever console for a Shenmue3 announcement ;p
Btw, keep calm: IF (and I'm not sure about that) Platinum will be stil on the Wii U, it will be for Star fox.

BELIEVE

PS: I've listen again to that part, and I really think he was talking about Bayonetta 2 spoiler alert. Really

i could get behind this

Yeah this quote doesn't seem to be about Bayonetta 2 itself.
In the worst case, reminds me of the recent Anarchy Reigns thread. Would be cheap for Nintendo to get an exclusive sequel, and would be a multiplayer title.

I think devs from Platinum already said countless times they wouldn't do a Vanquish 2 without Mikami anyway.
And I think Treasure might be put on the new Star Fox rather than Platinum.

Wellllllll. What if Ninty get Mikami and Tango for Vanquish 2 and Platinum for Okami 2. U likay???

I don't understand hating on this being exclusive. Wii U getting Tropical Freeze and Bayo 2 was enough for me to know I'd get one. The other games are bonuses. Even for Smash I won't tell Nintendo "I bought Wii U to play this" in the registration survey. Just TF and B2.

I actually found out about 1/3 the games I'll want to get for Wii U after getting it just because I didn't pay much attention to it, so I wonder if people even realize what Wii U has to offer/coming up. Things started slow but Nintendo is making it come around. I felt that is how it went with N64 and Gamecube too, insofar as top quality titles were concerned.

They're hating on it because it's Nintendo who got the exclusive.

And God knows GAF loves to fire shots at Nintendo all the time. After all, "their hardware has no place in this world" and stuff... (quoting Patcher Belmont, etc.)

As someone who gave up consoles for PC last gen, I find hardware snobbery in the console realm hilarious. Living in the bottom-to-top tech land of the PC gaming space and seeing my most played games being #1 Terraria and #2 Skyrim (and similar mix all the way down in play hours and enjoyment) and yet also playing tons of 3DS only makes it all the more hilarious. Why would anyone let hardware determine for them what is fun/worth it? That's like only playing board games that are made of gold and gemstones.

Apparently GAF feels that certain franchises should only belong to specific platform companies.

But really, the real answer is that people are stupid.

I really hope Nintendo doesn't miss the opportunity to work with PlatinumGames more.
I was surprised by the Scalebound announcement.
Their game design philosophy is very similar. I remember Sakurai visiting Platinum :

http://andriasang.com/con0zb/sakurai_platinum/

and the similarities between Kid Icarus Uprising and Bayonetta are obvious. I'm not saying one copied the other but that they seem to follow the same game design process. They share similar mechanics and atmosphere like the last minute dodge/Witch Time, the lighthearted humor, the flying sections, the Intensity gates/Muspelheim, hearts/halos drops, the bosses and so on.

Well, Platinum Games is an indipendent studio, so it is normal to see them going with many different publisher. I?m not surpirsed at all by Scalebound.
It could happen that they will work again with Nintendo, but it's also normal to see both Nintendo going ahead with other projects and Platinum to work for hire with other publishers

Oh I agree, but after the release of W101 and the announcement of Bayonetta 2, it seemed the two were closer than ever and then they announce an XBO exclusive before Bayonetta 2 is even finished. I wasn't expecting any new announcement before the release of Bayonetta 2.

But less people got Bayo 2 on Wii U than PS3 alone.
*in japan
And she was still dead and got a second game. She wouldn't of gotten a second game either way and now she did. That's what the above poster meant by her Resurrection.

Not too sure about that. Either way you wouldn't get Bayonetta 2 on PS4/X1 (or whatever).
This way you can get bayo 2 eventually. Once you do you'll be able to play another great action game by PG and the best version of Bayonetta 1.

chances for sony doing a contract are like 10% which kinda sucks.
i say hog cause i feel nintendo is gonna continue the partnership with platinum, they want you guys real bad.
If Nintendo continue the partnership, that will means more platinum games on Wii U which you want, and then eventually you trade your ps4 with no platinum games for a Wii U.

The "Nintendo is for kids" comments aren't even as bad as one of them which made fun of them for their "first" action game featuring "a girl".
Ha, true.

The most offensive one was "They had a woman as a producer for the game? No wonder it bombed"

Yamagami created Panel de Pon. That makes him awesome by default. This video makes him even more awesome than that.

The fact that Nintendo seems to have a department dedicated with 3rd party collaborations on "un-Nintendo"-like games makes me excited. I'm guessing this guy is also involved wih the Devil's Third collaboration as well

Have you not known this? Nintendo SPD has been bringing you outside collaborations for over a decade already. This isn't news.

Basically everything Nintendo-published and not made by or with heavy involvement from EAD Kyoto and Tokyo is an SPD project. That includes games by Intelligent Systems, MonolithSoft, Retro Studios, Next Level Games and others.

And yes, Yamagami is the SPD producer on Devil's Third who is responsible for this:

Itagaki said:
Yeah, his name's Ivan, and he's the protagonist of the game. I've been making this game together with Mr. Yamagami of Nintendo for a while now, and one day he came to me with this really burning intensity. He asked me, "Why aren't you showing off the Valhalla spirit?! Why don't you really show what Japanese developers can do?!" So I asked him, "Can we get away with that? Can we push it that far?!" He replied, "Of course! Otherwise what's the point of us working together?!" His words really lit a fire under us, leading to the creation of Ivan, the protagonist, and the in-game music.
His words were really inspiring to me. And I have my own take on ninja - I told myself, "Alright, let's do this!!"

Was it just me, or did Hitoshi Yamagami basically all but confirm another Nintendo X Platinum project at the end there?

When he said he can't reveal too much, was that about Bayonetta 2 or future collaborations with Platinum?

Interesting final quote. Does that have to do just with Bayonetta 2, another project or Platinum?

Hmmmmmm...

I'm pretty sure he meant Bayonetta 2 since it hasn't released yet here. But I'm all for more collaborations, Nintendo needs them. Despite me not being the biggest Platinum fan, it'd be good for the variety.
