I am like 99% sure, the game's development hasn't begun. Maybe some pre-production stuff, but that is about it.
Melee and Brawl are the Smash 4 preproduction

it's gonna be a resources dump guffaw guffaw

A CG movie like 2006 would suffice for me, especially if it gave a character confirmation.

the 2006 trailer had plenty of gameplay in it. I hope we get to see something similar. That was still my favourite trailer of all time.

Why does it say PIKMIN 3 in that blurb?

E: http://wii.ign.com/articles/117/1173797p1.html

That blurb. Did they spill the beans or something?
Because Pikmin 3 was technically announced at 2008's Miyamoto roundtable.

2008 - Pikmin 3 (Miyamoto mentioned that they were working on it.
2009 - Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Miyamoto brought some artwork from the game)
2010 - Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D (The demo was playing throughout the room, and it was a main subject of the roundtable)

Wasn't Brawl's first trailer shown at the round-table and not at the conference?

I'm pretty sure we won't see a first glimpse of the new Smash, but false hopes are fun. Kinda. In a masochistic way.

They talked about pikmin 3 there last year, thats all.

Wasn't that 2 years ago? Never been mentioned since.

Edit: 3 years? Damn, not sure why anyone was still expecting it.

People give Sakurai too much credit. Brawl SUCKED!
Brawl was fine... as a party game. It is awesome for people who don't play video games much and just like throwing items around on 4 player mode. As a successor to Melee and as a competitive game, yes, it was horrible.

*edit*

On a similar note, I have gone from enjoying Melee more than any other game to not giving a rat's ass about the series in general. Funny how that *trips*

What happened to Sakamoto?

Rhythm Heaven Wii is at the show. But thats hardly worthy of him coming to E3. Maybe next year when his team at Nintendo has other games.

I am not sure if all those developers will be on the round table today. Nintendo is probably splitting them up. Especially if both today and tomorrow's round table are strictly on first-party.

The way Iwata mentioned Smash Bros felt like the game was barely in production....

Yes. It looks like they are in early planning stages. The sooner Kid Icarus is done. The sooner full development starts on Smash Bros. Unless Iwata is finding Sakurai supplemental teams again to help his team develop the game.

OH I thought this was in over an hour. Me and my stupid time-zone conversions X( Good news though, there's a lot of difference between 3:30am and 4:30am :P

Pretty hyped after previous years. We've already seen Zelda art, but I would love to see some more. The image of, presumably, Zelda is stunning.

I'd love to see a surprise trailer like they did for Brawl, but i'm not hyping myself too much.

Because every round table and E3 interview since 2008's roundtable has asked about Pikmin 3 and they keep saying it's well into development and will hopefully be done soon. Miyamoto said he wanted to finish up development and have it out in 2011 last year but that's not happening anymore and once again Nintendo hasn't said one word about it at this E3.

Brawl had positive media reviews and good enough word of mouth to keep selling for a long time after release. Yes, it attracts a lot of internet rage and displeased tournament players, but it was received well enough in every other metric.

I think he was literally asking him to make a new Smash Bros. game on stage again.

Hard to say awhile back Sakurai was teasing on twitter about desire for making an HD game

I'd be very surprised if we didn't get a Pikmin 3 trailer at this Roundtable.

it's been too long, Nintendo knows we want it, it is the PERFECT game to launch with this system. HD + Touch screen controls...it makes too much sense for it not to be a launch (window) game.

Pretty much. Sakurai's twitter suggested it might not even have been the best time to announce it to the wider public, but they ended up announcing it, partly because they need to recruit staff anyway. They're not starting anything until after Kid Icarus is done.

I think you will be very surprised.

Wasn't Brawl announced before Sakurai had committed to making it? Iwata walked on stage and said something about it, and Sakurai was like "Oh crap, now I have to make it."

At least, that's how I remember it happening. I think Iwata mentioned it in an Iwata Laughs interview. Could be a similar situation here.

If I remember correctly, Iwata said something along the lines that Sakurai had agreed to make a new Smash Bros for Wii U. So I don't think Iwata hasn't talked to him this time.

Yup, pretty much.

Even worse. Sakurai had left Nintendo a few years ago. So Iwata the night after anouncing it had to beg Sakurai to return and make it.

Shouldn't it be happening now? IGN's live blog says nothing.
