Why the mystery? Name & shame the immature hate-mongers!permutated said:I don't even own a Wii, some of the responses in here are just immature and hateful for no reason. If it were any other system people would be jumping for it, but since it's the Wii, let's hate on it for no reason (aside from the fact that it's popular).

Nintendo, capping off the trifecta of price cuts from major console producers will send us spiraling into subsequent cuts in the next 6 months. Sony will make the PS3 $199 before the end of TGS. Microsoft will undoubtedly slash 360 cost to $149, and Nintendo will retaliate with a $99 Wii package before Christmas.
Sony will then throw down with $49 PS3 in the new year, Microsoft will make it interesting with $10 Xboxes, bundled with 5 free games. Nintendo will blow minds by distributing the Wii for free, with a unconstrained access to VC and WiiWare offerings. Come february, Sony will be paying you $50 to accept the PS3, packed in with a free PSP Go. Microsoft will bundle free Natal-enabled 360s with food vouchers, movie tickets, rent/mortgage stipends. On March 1st, 2010, Nintendo announces Wii's vitality sensor induces sustained orgasms in players, distributes it without cost to entire planet.

SamBishop said:Sorry, Nintendo, but too little, too late. You're going to be relegated to your place in the hardware sales department for the rest of this generation. It was a good run, though, and you should pat yourselves on the pack for making it this far. Maybe next gen you'll give your competitors a chance to catch up, but now you're all alone on the mountaintop... of mad ends.
What's interesting is that this move probably puts Microsoft in the toughest spot of all. Now the Wii is the same price as the cheapest 360, and taken on a pure value proposition, the Wii and PS3 offer the best bang for the buck out of the box to get everything the system allows for. I'm very, very curious to see how MS will respond a few months down the line because god knows Sony ain't going to drop the price any time soon.
I love this industry. No matter what happens, this holiday season is going to be fantastic for sales, and people will once again look at all the cash generated during the holiday season and be absolutely floored. And from this point forward, the games are only going to get better. Yay us.

Nintendo released the NES in two different bundles: one at $249 with the R.O.B. (Robotic Operating Buddy) unit, two controllers, a lightgun, Gyromite (a R.O.B. game), Duck Hunt, and Super Mario Bros., and the other set at $199 with controllers and Super Mario Bros.

Nuclear Muffin said::lol @ Nintendo's timing for their press release, talk about a low blow :lol
The price drop, along with NSMB Wii should sustain sales until around Feb/March. Then they've still got the Black Wii (and maybe other colours) that they can release which should keep them going until their 2010 lineup is ready to release (Probably in Spring 2010, just in time to spoil Sony's motion party again :lol)

onken said:As I said in the first thread, 250 is pretty cheap for a console as it is. Was there really anybody holding out for 200?
Also does this mean the UK price will go back to launch price?
MCV said:MCV can confirm that UK retail will see the trade price of NintendoÂ’s console fall on October 2nd.
However, as had been speculated, the trade price change will only bring Wii down to the same level it was at prior to its controversial trade price hike in March of this year.
There is good news, though. As MCV exclusively confirmed earlier today, UK gamers are set to get a lot more included in WiiÂ’s basic hardware SKU than consumers overseas.
The new Wii hardware bundle, which will launch on October 2nd, will include the console, a WiiMote, one nunchuck controller, a MotionPlus peripheral and copies of both Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort.
It is expected that the pack will retail for ÂŁ179.99.

I don't really understand where this post is coming from, I mean nobody has been really negative about the Wii in here, was there nowhere else for this to go?Grooveraider said:You know, all this questioning about Nintendo's business ethics . They are NOT in Sega's position. As you remember how flamboyant Sega was against Nintendo? All I have to do is click on a few of my retro gaming news clips and start chuckling. Sure, Nintendo lacks the graphical "ooomph" of PS3 and 360 but they have enough revenue for the FUTURE. So I can practically guarantee you Nintendo is gonna be around for a very LONG TIME. As if 120 years aint enough. JUST SHUT THE HELL UP Wii NAYSAYERS !
$199 this weekend ...

I don't know how much the rest of you know about price drops in Japan (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by constantly dropping the price. If you drop the price of something in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.
What this means is the Japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase a Wii, nor will they purchase any Nintendo games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Nintendo has alienated an entire market with this move.
Nintendo, publicly apologize and raise the price back or you can kiss your business goodbye.
