Nintendo E3 Site Opens: E3 Direct one hour long. Teases some games.

Yeah, just say what the game is and give it a very small explanation. Let the demo be shown of the game, not ramble for 10 minutes on how they are bananas and came up with a new idea they had to test and make prototypes of

This is another thing, since the ND is supposed to only be an hour, and Iwata goes into immense detail about everything. I wish it was two hours.

3D Mario, Mario Kart, Yoshi's Island, maybe SSB (never been a HUGE fan, but I do have Brawl and like it), and the possibility of a Retro game. Of course, I hope we get some new IPs, too, although that's not a huge forte of Nintendo admittedly.

Have you tried a Pikmin game?

The only thing that worries me with a Nintendo Direct is Iwata rambling on about features that don't need explaining. It's like a calling card at this point.
This is my biggest fear. I'm fine with no live conference as long as the presentation of the games is the same. The Donkey Kong Country Returns reveal at E3 2010 was perfectly orchestrated. Had it been revealed in a Nintendo Direct, you'd have short gameplay segments while Iwata explained what was going on and how the development team made those decisions.

I feel like the last 2 Directs (Luigi Special 2 (with LttP) and the Sega Direct were better - except for the 10 minutes that they went on about Yakuza HD (Japan stream, but still).

Anyone else think that NFC will also be a big focus for Nintendo at E3 this year? NFC could potentially be the reason they decided to hold the Pokémon roundtable (although I'm still pulling for some Fairy type reveal). Just curious as this thread hasn't given NFC all that much attention, but I think its pretty likely.

Thoughts? Theories on how it will be utilized beyond for payments?

I'd figure (or at least, hope) that there's less padding, given the timing of this Direct and them needing to make the Wii U all the more attractive.

I don't think we need to be worried about this. In the January Direct, they didn't spend more than five minutes on a game. Heck, they made a huge impact with X, and they spent less than two minutes on that.

I could totally see Nintendo pulling an Ocarina of Time 2 at some point.

But they need to release ALttP2 first, lol.

Hehe. I was thinking as all signs are pointing to a child timeline Zelda game, and Majoras Mask likely to get a remake next year, why not do a sequel to explore Link's (hero of Time) final adventures. Doesn't need to be Hyrule or Termina, it can be completely different, as an Adult, to satisfy nostalgia and new concept ideas.

What always ticks me off is when they have some of the Treehouse people explaining pointless stuff during a Direct. It sucks up a lot of valuable time.

"Hi there! I'm a random hipster working for Nintendo's Treehouse! As I sit here, sinking into this comically large armchair, I can't help but think of all of the compelling content coming to WiiU.

"I'd like to talk about Pokémon Rumble U. In this game..."

Yeah, but the difference is that this is E3. Gaming journalists will play the game, record the game and will write down how the game plays. Iwata doesn't need to do that, all he needs to is say "here is game xxx, an action platformer out this Xmas". No more or less.

But I will be damned if 1/3 of the ND is iwata explaining stuff...

Let's face it though, they ramble on-stage as well. At least with a ND, there's a bit more direct control over content via editing.

Remember how awful it is having to listen to Miyamoto or someone speaking in Japanese, with Trinen talking over him in English with a translation? Subtitles, mang.

Hype Question for all NintenGAF:

1. Upcoming game you most want to see?
2. Upcoming game you most want to play?

Me:

1. Find out what Retro is working on.
2. Pikmin 3

It seems to me they are having more roundtable/showcase presentations then usual. I have feeling that this will be removed from the direct and placed into the |2:00pm - Wii U Software Showcase gameplay and Q&A session Press|.

Im very curious about the next 3d mario. I picture that garden zone in galaxy before you pick a stage to play. It is beautiful.

Now picture that full blown in hd with all these effects.

As far as what id like to play, i can only go by what ive seen. Pikmin 3.

edit: forgot about X!

With the way the press reports, I feel like it would be a waste not to explain a little more than what you described. You may as well preach while you have a captive audience in the Direct. It's if they do Luigi's Ghost Mansion-style 10 minutes of rule explaining that we'd know we we're in trouble.

Nope. That Pikmin Adventures minigame on Nintendoland was really fun, though.

Well, if you're looking for a new IP to play from Nintendo, then Pikmin is new to you. I'd definitely give it a try. If you already have a Wii U, you can even rent a copy of New Play Control Pikmin 1 or 2.

I ask because personally, Pikmin is one of my top three Nintendo franchises. And if you're looking for something fresh, doesn't hurt to give the games a spin. You might end up as hyped as some of us are for the third installment.

1. Anything Zelda Related.. really want to see what Wind Waker HD looks like.

2. 3D mario... I really want to "see" this as-well, but I want to play this more than anything

Also, if I am not mistaken, the roundtable is 1.5 hrs; I know that there is always time for questions, but seems really long for a Pokémon title which, lets be honest, do not have a history of incorporating exceedingly complex or fundamentally game changing new features. For example, I don't see how a discussion of features like the addition of Pokémon abilities, online trading, etc. would take very long.

Yeah, I'm thinking about getting Pikmin 3, but I really hate using the wiimote and nunchuck so I probably won't get Pikmin 2. I don't know why, but I was just never a fan of those things. The gamepad is great, so maybe we'll get a demo for Pikmin 3 and I can just get that one.

It was a long, sunny day at Nintendo Land.

50% off!, the entry sign stated, in big bold letters painted in red.

"Gee! Fee's amazingly low, today" said Link, as the gang queued up
for the thrilling Hylian MENSA tour.

"Ooh! Wee! What a fun ride!" Zelda said, as a wind current gave Sheik
air. "Roomier motors must make the G-forces double!"

Tree ninjas in drag suddenly attacked in this leg of the MENSA tour.

"Ooh! She buttered her sword or something," Zelda yelped, "cos it's
slicing coconuts with ease!" Frazzled, her manner was unbefitting a
hero. "She... umm... ah... ooh!"

Cheating death, they fled to the tour exit. At the gift shop, Link abruptly
stopped, seeming a little cagey. "Ah! Oh! New master swords are 50%
off, too!"

"Now let's go back on the ride!"

Okay, I see Reggie Fils-Aime, Satoru Iwata, Shigeru Miyamoto, Satoru Shibata, Hiroshi Yamauchi, and Eiji Aonuma hidden between the words, but I still don't get what the point of this is.
