Nintendo eShop update officially released [New Update: Fixes Ridge Racer 3DS issue]

Thread title is misleading, played RR just fine after the update. You just have to avoid using the b button in certain menus as far as I understand - not a big deal and nothing I would consider "breaking" the game.

I did notice that the light did come back on after I updated the system, but didn't pay much attention to it cause I was still using the 3DS with the AC adapter still plugged in

But tonight, I left the 3DS in the charging cradle to recharge the battery and the LED charge light never turned off. I don't remember the exact time I put the system on the cradle, but I did leave it there for about 4-5 hours (probably more than that)

It's a minor thing, but I do hope it gets fixed

Shit so that's what's been causing it! I was wondering why it's been taking so long for the 3DS to charge all of a sudden, the LED light never went off even after hours on the charger. I definitely hate this and hope they fix soon.

Is it just me or did Nintendo fix the washed out colors when playing DS games on a 3DS? I haven't played DS games on a DSL or 3DS in a while, but the colors do look more vibrant than I remember how it was before the update.

I haven't seen any washed out DS game colors on my 3DS. It looks the same to me.

It looks like my 3DS automatically downloaded the 3D Pokedex for me overnight. I didn't tell it to download from the eShop menu but yet there was a blue notification light on my console this morning and little gift box on my 3DS menu.

They did. Chrono Trigger DS looked really washed when I first got my 3DS but looks a lot better now after the patch.

That's cool. I really didn't expect them actually giving use to the "Allow the eShop to automatically download new software on SpotPass" option.

Also how can you delete stuff from the home screen?

It means you gots new Pokemon! Whenever there's a Blue Circle next to an icon, you got new Spot Pass data for that program.

To delete stuff you need to go under the Data Management settings.

It means that you've received a new Pokémon.

As for deleting stuff, I have to guess that you have to go into the system settings and delete it from there.

Oooh looks like I was slightly tricked. What it downloaded was the game icon to my 3DS menu and not the entire program. When I went to play it, I got a message saying "You need to download this software from the Nintendo eShop before you can launch it. Download the software now?". A "no" choice returns with a prompt and asks if I want to delete the Pokemon 3D icon off of the menu.

So the 3DS didn't download the full program, just a little bit of it to entice me to download the entire thing.

I'm going to get a little bothered if I end up with a Coca-Cola Super Pokemon Brothers program than requires a payment of $9.99 to download the full program. I hope this doesn't turn into something similar to the xbox live barrage of advertisements.

Well, at least you can opt-out in case it starts getting ridiculous.

Wow @ Shantae! I wasn't expecting it to look quite this nice. Definitely my favorite purchase so far on eShop. It's pricey, but oh, so worth it.

Damn the money blocks, though! I only need $1 to buy Starship Defense, but you can't pay the exact amount for software. I really think people would be more inclined to spent $2 here or $5 there if we could simply pay for what we want instead of having to purchase...money. Nintendo always has to have a few thorns in their rosebush.

The shop is freaking messy now. Why can't they make the icon smaller and not make them layout in a long row? I should be able to see all or most of the icon in one shot and not having to scroll forever.

Also their categorization is so arbitrary with no hierarchy.

It's truly fantastic; this was my first time playing it and it's such a great game. Fun animation and the gameplay itself is just pure fun. Certainly worth the money.

Cool, I like these individual notifications for each game/app. Much easier to keep track of new content than reading a blog post or whatnot.

The store icons should have the same sorting options as the home screen. I basically have a grid of ~20 icons for my home screen.

Hmm, says he is working on 6 3D classics, including Excitebike and Xevious. That doesn't seem like a lot...
There's way more than that on the way if the demos at E3 last year are to say anything.

We should be getting a good variety of games. Wouldn't be surprised if one of those games was the original Legend of Zelda.

Ok, so I got a sales tax question I was hoping you guys could help me out with.

I live in WA, so we have sales tax. I was used to paying it on the Wii VC shop and had no problem with it because I would always have the points I needed to buy something. But now that it's cash based, I would be buying $5 using, say, my debit card. But then when I would go and buy a DSi game or something for $5, wouldn't I be short because of the tax? Or does it not work that way?

I know you can set your system to be in a location that doesn't have sales tax, but that seems a little shady to me.

All systems that are cash based apply the tax after the price. If you buy $5 worth of Nintendo Bucks, you will not have enough for a $4.99 Nintendo game because of tax. As a result, in-store Nintendo cards will be tax-free, but the purchases you make on them will not be.

In-store Nintendo cards... You mean the cash we buy directly from them through the eshop or in actual brick and mortar stores too? I know it's tax free to get the credits from the eshop, but with a 15% employee discount at Target, I may go ahead and just buy a points card instead and save myself some money, because yes, it does work on those things.

Ah. Darn. I guess I never noticed on the PSN store and the Wii store because of the way they do it. I hope there's some sort of change to that then.

Really? My employee discount at Kmart doesn't work on cash and gift cards.

See, that's what bugs me. I'd much rather pay tax on the initial purchase of "points" or the card, and then not have to deal with all these crazy numbers on the eShop. I shouldn't have to buy $10 worth of points to purchase a $4.99 game.

i have a problem with the 3DS sound app.

i used to listen to mp3s on the 3DS since i got it but i hadn't used it since the big shop update but now i tried and none of my music shows up anymore.
has anyone had this problem? it would suck bad if nintendo removed mp3 support from the 3Ds already since the songs i had converted for DSi don't work either and redoing all the conversion sucks big time. i already tried resetting the whole app and the mp3s still don't show up.
i hope i can get help with this.

I have a bunch of mp3's on mine and they all seem to be recognized and play fine.

Not just you. There is a thread over at GBATEMp talking about it an even posting comparison pictures between updated and non-updated 3DSs

DS games still look pretty abysmal if you're letting the 3DS stretch it full-screen. The fuzzy, de-saturated smudgery is just so unappealing if you quickly compare it to the way it looks when holding Select on boot-up. It's most telling if you play anything with color like any Kirby game, Mega Man Zero/ZX, or Mario & Luigi.

They just fixed the gamma. Other than that it still uses the same filtering.

That said, I'm playing EO3 on it, and while some of the sharpening is apparent on most cases, the sprite works still looks relatively crisp. Sure, it's not as good as 1:1 mode but still pretty damn close.

Strange, I don't have that issue. Tried to deliberately break RR as well and had no "luck", thread title change greatly appreciated.

It's confusing. We have sales tax here in Georgia, and I've been putting in my correct zip code with each purchase, but it doesn't charge me tax when I buy games. I guess each state must have specific laws regarding taxing online purchases.

Are there any good DSiWare 2€ apps out there? Or should I better save the remaining 4€ I still have for later?

Well, it's kind of a no-question. Saving is better obviously but...

I played and completed Goldeneye on my 3DS and it looked good.

What sort of games are people having problems with ?

For me, it's a toss up between Escapee Go and Aura-Aura Climber -- both excellent $2 games.

Another vote for Aura-Aura.

Just turn it off in the eshop options.

I like Spotto! a lot. It's a 50 level game where you play as a bird in an army helmet and you chuck bombs at ghosts and toilets. To aim, you use the stylus to crank the angle of your shot. You are given a preview of where the shot will go and the bombs are lobbed in an arc, but things can get hairy when it comes to bouncing.

When you finish the game, you get a pro mode where you are given absolutely no indication of where your shot will go.

Here's an image from a very simple level near the beginning, it gets much more complex with lots of rubbish littering the levels and blocking your shot:
ossgz.jpg

And like you mentioned, it's $2.

Yeah I just got both Spotto! and Army Defender also last night. Spotto!'s really cute. For $2, it seems like another worthy game. Only played through to the first boss (if you could call it that) so far.

I like Paper airplane chase myself, but perhaps a Game and Watch title would be good too.

Thanks for the responses. I've been checking this stuff out in youtube and I think I'd rather save the money for something a little more fleshed out. No ofense, but those games look like the kind I can find for free (with ads) in the Android Market.

Save up for this game then.

X-Scape. I just downloaded it today and it's a good game! The sequel to X for the GB, which never came out of JP. Has a story too. Made by Q Games (Pixeljunk series, Reflect Missile, Starship Defense, art style: Digidrive).

Btw, can you redownload games transferred from a DSi for free? I ask because my sis has a DSi and I have a 3DS. Right now I'm just purchasing DSiware from my 3DS but if I can purchase them on my sister's DSi then transfer them to my 3DS then have my sis redownload the titles on her DSi, then we'd get games for both systems, right?
