Nintendo 'fixing' StreetPass in the West.

This always depends on where you live. Good for people who live in more remote areas, I guess. Some people have told me they've never had a streetpass hit before. When I lived in London (Islington, so near enough to central) I could leave my 3DS on sleep while it was in the charging cradle in my room and I'd get streetpass hits. Now I'm back home I get one or two whenever I go to town central in Cardiff, but not nearly enough to justify taking the 3DS out, so this feature is welcome.

Talk about Next gen, Next Gen Street pass !!!

All they need to the spot pass / street pass with friends and I'll be set :D

Still doesn't address biggest problem.

Street pass kills your battery.

3ds XL will die like in 2 days if you just have it in idle mode with no game playing.

3ds is even worse.

I've gotten 40 stretpasses in 2 months of owning my XL. Am I the minority?

Don't you just put on the charger after you get home? Like a cellphone. That's what I do. Battery tech just isn't there.

any word on WPA Enterpise access? Cannot connect at university with user name and password? What about free wifi that only accessible through going on web and hitting "accept terms of use?"

It might work in the browser but im certain is does not carry over into games. Where I live most free wifi require log in through browser. Dont see many open wifi networks. Even airport requires i accept terms of use.

Also last time i tried nintendo zone it got stuck searching for 10 min. Had to just shut my 3ds down.

Wonderful. If I can fill a queue of ten humans in less than two to three months, maybe I'll start playing Find Mii again. Running through it with a level 7 Gamestop demo unit and nine randomized cats just doesn't have the same appeal, y'know?

This sounds like great news to me. I, throughout my entire time with my launch 3DS and my 3DSXL, never had a single streetpass. It was only when my brother moved back home did I finally get streetpasses, from his system.

By "American" does this mean it will come to Canada as well, or just the US for now? I seriously need one of these in Victoria, BC. Vancouver's great for streetpasses as a big city but apparently not the capital of the province.

I have owned my 3DS for about a month now, and I have taken my 3DS just about everywhere.

so far I have not gotten a single streetpass. Downtown, midtown, germantown, cordova, Bartlett, Southaven, the malls, best buys, targets, walmarts, gamestops...

Nothing...

Memphis does not work with 3DS Streetpass.

Because I don't really see any point in it, as it offers nothing for me. Plus I don't take my 3DS when I am out and aboot.

You get extra features in a multitude of games, but fair enough if they don't interest you. It's just a typically Nintendo fun little extra that people can choose to ignore, as is the case here.

Great idea. I live in Baltimore and even walking around the inner harbor at lunch time with throngs of people and kids I often only get one streetpass, sometimes none.

I really should get a cradle for 3ds xl... but fuck are they expensive for nothing.
I agree $20 is a lot of a piece of plastic with some electronic bits... But over the long haul its totally worth it. I use mine every single day and will for the next few years.

I get an average of 3 a day, commuting through a small section of Washington D.C.

It's odd. Never figured the people I see regularly on the bus or on the train to be 3DS owners.

Awesome, great news. StreetPass is one of my favourite 3DS features but I get it just a few times a week if I'm lucky. Time to finish some puzzles, finally!

FINALLY. I live in a rural area and have literally ONE streetpass exchange since launch day, and that was in the car on a road trip.

If they get a map out of places participating, I will actually plan my walk to work around it. Just got to Streetpass Quest II and I NEEDS THE PASSES.

Good. I like streetpass, but I've had my machine since June 2011 and I have 20 streetpasses, which include 5(?) Mii's from Nintendo right now I received the last couple of days. Here in Holland there aren't a lot of people who don't take their 3DS with them. :(

I can get probably 1-2 a day on average (when I actually have my 3DS with me), sometimes none, sometimes more. Center City Philadelphia. Depends on how I walk home from work!

But - moving to the burbs soon, so this will help. I'll still probably get some at the train station during my commute, but if not there are several of these Wi-Fi points within blocks of my office.

It's a great idea - getting more people to use StreetPass means more people will actually carry their 3DS out with them.

Every so often I'm walking through a food court or something and I see literally dozens, maybe hundreds of people on iPhones and/or Samsung Galaxies. All I can think is "Boy, Streetpass would be so cool if it achieved smart-phone type scale :/"

This is great news as my ratio of getting people on Streetpass has been about 1 person every 6 months. Unless of course I go up to the Nintendo World store in Manhattan which isn't that often either.

Really glad Nintendo notices and is even addressing this issue. That's the one issue I have with Nintendo and Sony with their handhelds. They tend focus on local-wifi type use rather than internet, but the rest of the world isn't as densely populated as Japan is.

I tend to get streetpasses often when I go on vacation or travel. Went to San Diego last year around Sept, must have gotten 10 easily within few days. 4 of which at the Zoo and few at airport/hotel

I get a streetpass every few weeks here, just depends on where I go.

This is awesome news for Americans lol, at least the UK is small enough that we get occasional streetpass lol, but heard on these forum some peeps have never streetpassed lol

There's someone I've managed to streetpass five times on the commute to work and I *still* can't figure out who it is. That's starting to get on my nerves - there aren't many regulars out there that take the same trip as me.

This is a good idea but I'm confused. Does online streetpass data only get sent if you connect from these select locations or do you get streetpass data any time you connect online and these locations only make automatically connecting easier?

I assume it acts as a relay hub; Looks like a 3DS to your 3DS so it knows to attempt a Streetpass exchange, then collects your Mii and farms it out to other 3DSes that pass it.

I always get a couple if I go somewhere with a big crowd, or go to a place like the mall. It always makes me wonder if the people who work there ever just plug it in under the counter while they're working and let them roll in. I bet so, especially if they work at a Gamestop, or a Super Target or something.

Hmm...that's not really helpful to me then as I am not likely to pass any of these locations any time soon.

I live in Australia and its even worse here. I bought a 3DS at launch. I've had 2 unique Street Pass hits in that time (and the 2nd one is because I'm now on a university campus one or two days a week). Hope they introduce something similar.

Awesome. I wish there wasn't a limit on 10 StreetPass tags before you had to view them, though..at cons and such you hit 10 so quickly, and really don't want to be on your 3DS clearing them all the time. :x

yeah I did this at Disneyland a few times. Is kinda annoying that you have to use the 10 right then and there too.
