Nintendo 'fixing' StreetPass in the West.

Wow, this is pretty awesome. Glad to see that Nintendo took the time and effort to try to improve streetpass in areas where we don't see the same amount of people as their home territory.

*shrug* I have all the puzzle pieces... Although going to a Zelda concert and street passing almost 200 times in one day did help.

Unless you're in a big city, you just tend not to streetpass at all. I have to use play coins for everything T_T.

I've gotten a lot of Street Passes but I have to be strategic with where I bring my 3DS. Overall, this is a great way to get people to street pass and maybe even carry their 3DS around more but especially for people that live in more remote places with less opportunities for Street Passes.

Thank god. After visiting Japan and coming back it's slightly depressing to open up my 3DS. At least the E3 SpotPass tags have been coming.

This is good progress.

Nintendo will REALLY be with the times once they successfully tie downloaded content to people's accounts instead of consoles. So let's just keep asking for that.

Great news. Between my two 3DSs (XL and Reg), I've been good at "farming" the non-pink puzzle pieces but getting pink ones is near impossible where I live. I have to wait on weeks like this one where Nintendo's VIP Mii's show up via spotpass with all the pieces so I can get a few. I don't think I've even completed any of the "hard" puzzles due to this reason.

EDIT - I've had my Vita for quite a while now and I still don't understand how "Near" works or what it gets me. Every time I try it, it says it can't find my location despite being connected to WiFi.

I have all the puzzle pieces but this will be nice considering just how many first party games are hitting in the second half of the year...so many puzzles.

I get random Streetpass hits while my 3DS is sitting in the cradle charging in my house (I live in the 'burbs outside Toronto), presumably from people just walking past my house. It's awesome.

I get a good amount of StreetPasses on campus, but not enough to keep up with those new panels that come out every so often. So I'm glad this is coming.

I really wish though that they could update the range of the StreePass so if you're on the highway or something you could connect with people in their cars.

Best I got was 6 in a day at ZĂĽrich HB but that was during rush hour. Usually it's 2/d at most and I don't think I've had a single one at University of ZĂĽrich campus.

Weirdly I was was passing Art Basel yesterday and the Nintendo Zone thing activated so there seems to be one somewhere in Basel. I had also been at the StĂĽcki shopping centre so could have been McDonalds or Starbucks and it was a delayed reaction.

finally! looking forward to details here. i just hit 500 at about a year and a half in a major city, the vast majority coming from zelda concerts. the e3 ones this week were more than i usually see, haha - it'd be nice to get even a fraction of what japan users get!

ProTip: drive back and forth in front of schools when the kids get out for some easy street passing.

Saw this in the Analyst Briefing and hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere, but this is really cool. I know a lot of people have problems StreetPassing, so this solution seems excellent.

Essentially, you StreetPass a location with a compatible wifi point. Your StreetPass info gets sent off to sit on a server and you recieve the StreetPass information of someone else. All without having to actually pass someone with a 3DS. Mucho StreetPasses ahoy!

This doesn't really help anybody in let's say, Brazil, where I do live.

Unless I could set a HotSpot StreetPass server myself.

You know, since the people you play online show up in your plaza, is there any reason why they couldn't just arrive at your gate like people you Streetpass or like the Nintendo staff who arrive via Spotpass?

Any reason for them not to be able to? None. Reasons not to do it at all? A lot. The point is to make you carry around your 3DS and at least, passingly, interact with other people. If you could just get a bunch of hits by being online, why even bother with the system? Why not just give everyone all the rewards instantly?

having a 3ds since launch day and bring it with me everywhere in SF and Berkeley, I've racked up a lot of streetpass hits, but it's still way lower than it must be in japan. On my daily commute I can usually get 1 or 2 hits. On a good day, maybe 3 or 4, but this is rare. I'm all in favor of this. Streetpass Quest is still really difficult once you get into the later replays for me.

I get streetpasses rarely outside of conventions like Gencon, but those few times a year completely fill up my puzzles (I easily have 10 more waiting before I'm done doing Puzzle Swap/Find Mii with the previous 10, it's crazy).

Still, it would be very nice to complete them on a more regular basis, or give people in the boonies a chance.

Streetpass is a bit pointless for me. No way am I going to haul my 3DS all over town, and even if I did I doubt other people are bringing theirs. Would be cool if I were still in school though.

I'm just thinking about the people, such as myself, who will likely hardly ever get any Streetpasses.

You are part of the problem lol.

This is a partially intractable problem, like wanting to play an MMO where there's no internet. While they can start doing more with systems like the one described I think straight up online completely defeats the point such that it's not worth it. I think upping the play coin limit would probably be a better idea for people in this situation.

I suppose so.

I guess this probably won't make it to New Zealand... Out of curiosity are there any gaffers from NZ who've managed to streetpass? I just got my 3DS a few days ago, just wondering whether it's worth walking around Middle Earth with it.

Please make this happen.

I have about 100 street passes (with multiple being special Nintendo visits) and that's after 2 years of taking my 3DS everywhere: airports, malls, shopping, university.

I need to finish these panels. Make it happen... ;_;
