Nintendo Gamer: Black Ops II coming to Wii U

Wii had Call of Duty on it so why wouldn't Activision put it on Wii U? If anything, Call of Duty would only be skipped on Wii U this year because it is the launch of a next-gen home console and that typically presents problems for third-parties to release their games in time for the launch/launch window for various reasons. Plus, this is a Nintendo home console, third-parties won't be crying if they can't make their game in time for it. If it were for Xbox, then we'd have a different story.

It's pretty clear the Microsoft had some kind of agreement with both Activision and EA Sports at this E3. Their main titles were never going to skip the Wii U.

Isn't that the big news here?

That Microsoft have apparently gone fucking insane, and are spending money to try and pretend things don't exist for a couple of months?

This seems really farfetched to me, but now that I think about it, did Sony talk about CoD or EA Sports stuff at all?

If Microsoft really is spending money to suppress information from third party publishers, this business has entered a twilight zone of ridiculous nonsense.

First of all, as a third party, you should never enter into that agreement unless the money is coming in truckloads! As an investor, I'd be super pissed if I found out that we missed one of our biggest marketing opportunities for even a 500k or 1M payment. Even if you tried to convince me that the money gained there could be spent later on marketing the other versions, the way it looks to average Joe gamer isn't good, because he may not even realize you are not skipping his platform until after the pre-order period is over, thus having his dollars spent elsewhere.

Secondly, it's just bad business practice. You are in this business for your company's well-being, not that of a single platform holder. Tomorrow you might need Sony, or Nintendo, in order to even release your games. What if this decision means they're going to put roadblocks in the way of your games? What if that means even MORE money spent to overcome those roadblocks (higher licensing fees, etc.)?

It's a short-sighted decision if the third parties really did take a payoff to keep quiet.

Treyarch's Mark Lamia on Wii U:
"I think it's interesting to think about all the platforms. Just in general, that's part of my job as a studio head, working with Activision on assessing where our creative can live. How can people experience it? We obviously have been a Nintendo developer for many years and have created many Call of Duty games on the Nintendo platform. [Wii U] is clearly a more powerful platform than its predecessor and... they have obviously a unique controller and interface," he said.

Lamia added, "And they announced a Pro Controller which appears to be a controller that would be really good for first person shooter games. It just so happens that's what we specialize in. So that's an interesting development and then they have that touch display device and you think about the kinds of things you might be able to do and - without getting into specifics - I absolutely have given it consideration and thought. We're game developers and it's a new piece of hardware and technology, so we're always thinking about that stuff."

As we pressed Lamia, he fully admitted, "It's difficult to say because it's something we're not talking about. I'm intentionally being elusive because we're not talking about it!"

They didn't even mention the Madden Vita bundle coming in August. You'd think a new bundle for a struggling system would get a mention.

Call of Duty isn't a megaton announcement in my eyes. It's an expected announcement, but for Nintendo, yes, it would be a big win to them.

I really think this is a given.

Wake me up when it's GTAV.

Yeah, said this before, but If GTA isn't coming, that'll be a pretty strong indicator that the system is completely, irreversibly fucked with third parties. No chance that Nintendo hasn't lobbied the hell out of Rockstar for a Wii U version, whereas I'm not entirely sure that the same is true of, say, Tomb Raider or Crysis 3.

Is it so hard to believe that Sony and Nintendo would rather talk about games that didn't have to wait 3 months for future content to show up on their system?

Er... yes, actually.

I find it extremely hard to believe Nintendo would make no mention of the two largest third party publishers at a press conference about new hardware with the explicit stated aim to re-attract third party publishers, but that happened. It is fucking strange.

3 month DLC exclusivity means absolutely fuck all to most people. Appearing to not even have publisher support is a much bigger deal.

Lets hope its the definitive version of the game with enhanced graphics. Otherwise its a waste of time porting this.

Tomb Raider might be a bigger loss for Wii U than Crysis 3, not sure why, but I just feel it’s the kind of game that could’ve done decent numbers on that console.

I’m curious about how Wii U will shift the support of 360 and PS3 though. Wii U not getting EVERY third party release might not be that big of a deal if we start seeing more dual-platform releases spread across WiiU+360, 360+PS3, PS3+WiiU.

Even if the graphics were the same but the game offered the wii remote as a control method it would be the definitive version for me.

Would be so much fun to put the wii remote against the new gamepad pro (or whatever they're calling it).

The decision of when to announce Call of Duty or any third-party title for that matter, is naturally up to the publisher. For whatever reason, Activision wasn't ready to make the announcement even if it were just revealed in name only. Nintendo could have requested it for all we know, but given how all three console manufactures lacked some common sense at E3 this year, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo didn't.

Now this is a reasonably big deal.

It's strange, Nintendo never mentioned this, and Sony pretty much ignored CoD Vita... do Microsoft have some sort of exclusive on showing Call of Duty off at events or something?

This was posted somewhere, maybe in the Vita thread? That the rumor is MS had a NDA and that they were the only ones that could show footage. Now why, Sony mentioned their version and Nintendo didn't? I don't know.

If the game includes IR as a real way to play the game, then I'm in day one. I know some of the Treyarch guys read this forum, and I just want to let it be known that IR should be an option for FPS games. The controls for the Wii CoD games were awesome. There's no way I'm going back. Let those who want dual analog have their way, but we want to keep ours as well.

You can't use a company as strongminded as rockstar to determine that. They do whatever the fuck they want regardless of what Nintendo tries to do. That said, I'm sure Nintendo has tried very hard to get that game.

Yep. And let me face the dual-analog folks online.

You do that, while I sit there in comfort, not having to worry about holding up my right arm, aiming at the TV, and having no neutral position to rest my arm which is an inherent flaw with shooters played with the Wii-mote.

but I like to play sitting like this

just add the wiimote in the right hand and the nunchuck in the left

edit: sorry for the double post, I thought I was editing my first one =/

Its easy to spot people who havent spent serious time with a Wii-mote in an FPS, because they make comments like these.

You dont have to hold your arm up at all. You can rest it on your leg/knee. As long as the sensor can see the tip of the controller and you're pointing in its direction, you're all good.

Aside from your Red-Steel-E32006-Commercial era comment, a split controller is actually far more comfortable than a non-split controller. IR being orders of magnitude more accurate than twin sticks is just the icing on the cake.

something tells me they will ditch the wii remote control.

Inherent misconception. Having actually put MANY hours into COD on the Wii, I can assure you that using the wiimote and nuchuck is no more physically taxing that using a traditional controller. You don't move you arm to aim, its in the wrist (small movements).

don't forget to add cross platform servers to the mix, this could be great haha just imagine the fan boys fighting over their preferred controller method

Its definitely there on the Wii. both dual analog and Wii mote/nunchuck are already on the wii.
I constantly here "You CCP, ACOG, aim assist NOOB!"
CCP = classic controller plus

I would hope not considering there's a good possibility that there will be a remote and nunchuck in the box. Even so, even MW3 supported both the classic controller and the remote and nunchuck. No reason for Black Ops 2 not to as well.

Off topic: Apparently the Tomb Raider Wii U announcement is in the latest issue of Game Informer. I havn't seen the reveal myself to confirm though.

+1

I've said it so many times on here -- Wii has the best version of Black Ops and controls are about 80% of the reason why (the other 20% is reduced player count making for more strategic gameplay and the removal of unbalanced killstreaks). I will buy Black Ops 2 Wii U at launch if it includes Wii controls with the same level of customisability as Black Ops 1. (If Gearbox folk are reading this, I'll do the same for Aliens: Colonial Marines.) Please don't dissappoint us.

Yep. And let me face the dual-analog folks online.

Oh, yes please! I'll sign up for handing out a beating too.

This is a magazine that has to recycle the same game previews over and over because Nintendo's releases have dried up so much - particularly on the Wii. On top of that, the Wii has hardly been rolling in exciting third party games over the last couple of years.

I wouldn't take this as anything more than a good guess that the game will show up on the Wii U. It's a great excuse not to have to fill a page with more Luigi's Mansion 2 non-info or Wii third party minigame fests.

Well that's good, I was worried when it wasn't announced at e3. If it wasn't going to happen then I would have been seriously worried for nintendos success with wii u.
