They had to pay the players and run the team. It isn't 600M profit.
They got much more than that out of it. They got revenue, too. Lots and lots of it. Especially with the ROOT sports deal.

How about no.Now use that money for Tokyo Mirage Sessions 2.
No way man, the Royals are coming in hot.Since the turn of the century, the Mariners have had one good season - 2001. They were considered one of the greatest regular season teams in baseball history - didn't even make the World Series. Since then, they've been terrible. No playoff appearances since.
This year they do have a shot though. I actually think they'll sneak in via the Wild Card.
Now a proper Metroid can be made!

This quarter is going to be garbage sales wise so it inflating the numbers before going into NX will at least make them look good.Here's a question. Did Nintendo pick the best time possible to sell, or could they have waited and gotten more?
Nintendo owned the controlling interest in the team, but the organization made its own money. Nintendo wasn't the ones writing the checks to the players.They had to pay the players and run the team. It isn't 600M profit.

Today i learned Nintendo owned a Baseball team.
That'll be good for more than 6 movies if they keep the film budget efficient.
Owner =/= Manager
Owner =/= Manager
Owner sets the payroll though.
Yeah, the average big budget animated film is around $120M not counting marketing so as long as they break even they can probably easily pay for around 5 moviesThat'll be good for more than 6 movies if they keep the film budget efficient.

The team's organization makes its own money and pays the players I thought.

Really? They just let the city and the team pay for itself.
No wonder billionaires just buy these things. It's zero risk venture.

Reggie was promoted to CEO of NOA.Is it me or Nintendo want to decrease their western presence? First I thought this was when they appointed Iwata as NoA CEO. I miss old days where NoA was almost separate entity, and had freedom to do whatever they want. Now we don't have CEO, Nintendo Power, Mariners... What's next? Fire Reggie, shut down NoA & NoE and go Japan exclusive? I bet it's one of their plans for the future.
I hope they won't sell Nintendo World Store too.
Nintendo bailing out of the worst sport.
Everything is looking up for the big N.
In the early 1990s, the Seattle Mariners were available for sale and United States Senator Slade Gorton asked Nintendo of America to find a Japanese investor who would keep the club in Seattle. Yamauchi offered to buy the franchise, even though he had never been to a baseball game. Although the owner accepted the offer, the MLB commissioner Fay Vincent and ownership committee were strongly opposed to the idea of a non-North American owner and did not approve the deal. However, following the strong support and sentiments of the people of Seattle and press the commissioner formally approved the deal, under the condition that Yamauchi had less than 50% of the vote. This was a major development in American baseball, because this opened the gates for Japanese baseball players to American league teams, which had been previously denied. In 2000, the club made its first profit of $2.6 million since its acquisition by Yamauchi. Yamauchi never attended a Mariners game.

*MarinersReading Yamauchi's entry on Wikipedia it looks like Nintendo never really cared about the Marines, it was more like a personal favour Yamauchi did to Seattle
For real, the N64 ken griffey games were great games.
You looked at these games in 1993-1994 and said "Nintendo owns stock in the Seattle Mariners"? Because when i look at these in my 10 year old eyes and now i just see an exclusive game series for Nintendo.

I'm being serious here. You can't build your own narrative without at least checking the basic facts about a situation.
If my math checks out, that values the Mariners at 1.4 billion dollars. Goddamn is that an obscene amount of money.
Deja vu or did we already have a thread on this?
