Nintendo invites Playboy models to play Splatoon.

fan art picks up where Nintendo left off

It was a good preview video, lots of gameplay footage, short, sweet and to the point.

Well done to whoever is managing Plaboy's Gaming stuff.

This really isn't the first time Nintendo has been featured by Playboy. Gamer Next Door is an ongoing video game series on the site. They also reviewed Majora's Mask, too. There were a bunch of other sites and YouTubers at the event as well.

I don't see the fuss.

Uhhh weird...

Hiring a Playboy model for Bayonetta, that makes sense to a point. This is just... huh...

Whatever... it's too late in the day for me to create coherent thought right now.

Edit: oh wait, it's just a standard preview video for their gaming section. Well whatever then.

Wow, first time I saw single player gameplay and it looks fucking amazing.

That being said, Nintendo couldn't have picked a stranger thing to advertise it. But meh, if Nintendo starts targeting a more mature audience I am down with it. Just imagine an M rated 1st party Nintendo game, haha

This isn't the first time. They also hired a Playboy Playmate to model as Bayonetta at the Nintendo World Store at release - so they must have a working relationship. The question is... why? At least Bayonetta... okay fine, personality can fit in with that sort of thing. But this? Interesting to say the least. But hey, we're talking about it, when a normal YT commerical probably is ignored.

Really shouldn't be that strange. It's not like it was an exclusive Playboy event. It was a press event, and yeah, Playboy's gaming section hosts were invited and attended. Pamela at least seems to have a genuine interest in games and Nintendo.

Erik sure seems like he's used to being interviewed by models though!

A lot of this thread is people seeing controversy when.. what happened is that multiple press outlets were invited to see an event and some of them work for a highly trafficked site like Playboy.

Nothing to see, except for "creative" fan art and reaction gifs.

Well, this is one way to get the adult demographic.
And wow, when did Playboy become so tame?
It is like a coffee table magazine now from what the website has shown me.

Who thought this was a good idea? Am I back in the mid-90's?

First mobile games, now Playboy promotion? Whats going on Nintendo! Ahhhhhh!

I guess they realized that the internet has an endless sea of titties, so they had to change things up a bit to stay relevant. They became more about pushing their product as a men's lifestyle brand and making their web presence more SFW. It worked. Their viewership and ad revenue is way up.

You know, at first I thought this was a cheap and dated PR move (reminded me of Nintendo's try-hard move into "edginess," which is something they oddly tried to do at the tail end of both the N64 and GameCube lifespans). But after watching this and her "Top 10 of 2014 Video," I've come to the conclusion that -- even without the forced (but cheeky) showing of skin in the latter video -- Pam Horton is at least 1,000 times more charismatic and well-spoken than the vast, vast majority of people who put themselves in front of a camera to talk about video games.

And, yeah, as other posters have said -- Playboy does gaming coverage, Nintendo invited them to their press event. Makes sense to me.

This didn't do much for me since every Nintendo video featuring Erik already invokes thoughts of pornography.

You know, Ray Bradbury serialized Fahrenheit 451 in Playboy. They have interviews with celebrities, political commentary, and a ton of other stuff. Think of it as a version of Rolling Stone with a nude centerfold, nude pictorials, and more "cheek."

If I were a celebrity, I would be honored to be interviewed in the magazine, and I would leap at the chance to write an article or two for them as a reporter or satirist.

That's true too. I guess the restructuring of their website is a big move to try and shed their image of just being your dad's softcore porno mag.

While I largely disagree with Pamela's top 10 of 2014, I do appreciate the level of cheekiness and fun she brings to it. You can get our video game news anywhere. Takes something a little different to make your brand preferred. Zelda pajamas and microwaved leftovers are my kind of jam.

Looks like they just invited them to the preview event where they invited pretty much everybody. Playboy doesn't really know what to be anymore though, with the internet pretty much killing their business

I don't get it. The chick who wrote the article was different than the busty redhead in the beginning. Who was she and why was she present?

Nintendo going for that edge they used to have in the GCN days. I remember going to a bar outside of Baltimore to go to a Nintendo sanctioned event where I could play Mortal Kombat... Deadly Alliance(?) way before it was out in stores. There were other games there as well, but I remember it was 21+ and open bar.

Great times.

Edit: It was the Cube Club Tour 2002. That's it.

I remember going to that in Portland to play Wind Waker. It was actually really nice. They even had a popular local DJ dropping the hip hop.

I hope this clears up something for people. This is taken from here.

Oh, hey! Here's Pam Horton talking about Mortal Kombat X.

Edit: Looking at the XLR Wireless Transmitter in the video there. If I had $1,400 for that and the receiver equipment.. I would totally put my FCC license to good use..

That was actually a pretty good video as a introduction to the game. I didn't even know about the single player stuff so I can officially say the Playboy informed me of Splatoon facts that I didn't know already!

In this case Nintendo of America is to Nintendo of Japan like that buddy of yours who says "I bet your parents won't notice if we drink the booze from their cabinet".

What blows me away is that Nintendo thinks the Playboy audience fits Splatoon but thinks voice chat is too inappropriate for a strategic shooter.
