Nintendo invites Playboy models to play Splatoon.

What blows me away is that Nintendo thinks the Playboy audience fits Splatoon but thinks voice chat is too inappropriate for a strategic shooter.

Yeah it is kind of odd the way they think things out.

Not really because the Playboy Youtube channel Splatoon playing session is something they can control. They decided how they would do this and I'm quite sure most of the kids out there are not followers of Playboy Youtube channel... and if they are then it's their parents problem. Voice chat is something you can't control easily and when I was playing online (FPS mostly) it was nothing but interesting discussion. It was only bad jokes, shitty music in the background, racist, homophobic or misogynistic insults... cool things for kids I guess :/

But I agree that they could do something different that would match better their target audience for Splatoon.
Unless I'm missing something.... maybe it's just for free publicity for the game since Playboy makes people talk a lot more than what we would expect from Nintendo.

Dang that Erik though. Haven't heard of him before this, and now I see shirtless pics of him in another thread? kind of in love.

Not sure why people are questioning this from the company that introduced a handheld by chaining each one to a woman at E3.

Heh not a bad preview at all, very relaxed and straight to the point. A lot more thought and polish was put into that preview than the stuff you see on the big journalist sites.

Wonder how many people in here actually watched it instead of just commenting on the title of the thread alone.

You're generalizing voice chat. It's not merely the negative shit of Xbox Live. Especially on Wii U. Granted, it's hard to tell given how few game fully support it- but play some rounds of BLOPS 2 or SC: Blacklist on the Wii U and you'll see that it's not nearly that bad. Splatoon is perfect for communication and Nintendo went out of their way to make sure that didn't happen. It's completely backwards.

Also, I'm not knocking the choice to use Playboy. I hope they keep at it. I just think it's striking how differently NOA and NCL think.

Yeah, I think I learned more about this game from this video than the various coverage I've seen of it so far.

Why? Do they really see Playboy as a worthwhile place to advertise? How much can they possibly get out of this?

Fight the "nintendo is for kids" idea with an argument on the level of who think nintendo is for kids and playboy is for grown ups

The timing of the announcement was expertly done too. It ensured people still talked about Nintendo, just as the Bloodborne reviews arrived.

Nintendo: Hey American game journalists, want to come and play a Wii U game?

Journalists: lol, no

Nintendo: There will be Playmates there

Journalists: Fine

No voice chat in games to prevent harassment/call of duty-type bad language = Conservative Nintendo of Japan/Game devs decision.

Splatoon/Bayonetta 2 Playboy publicity stunts = Nintendo USA decision for marketing purposes.

Is the girl playing actually a model, because if it is, their standards must have plummeted.
Somewhat misleading though, this seems more like Playboy does these kinds of reports regularly and Nintendo just invited them over for a preview. I mean, i was expecting barely dressed bunnies and at least some form of sexual vibe, but this could just as easily have been a report from IGN or something.

Well Playboy has changed a lot over the years.

And Miss June 2012 and Miss October 2012 were the girls playing, so they atleast have awards to their name lol.

That's exactly what happens. They did a report on MKX and interviewed Yoshi-P about FFXIV as well.

Is this part of Nintendo's marketing? I remember they did partner with Playboy to promote Bayonetta 2, and although I don't think it was playmates, they did send out girls with 3DS' attached to them for their E3 presentation of their handheld.

It's kinda far-fetched, but I wonder if that's something Nintendo just does these days.
