Nintendo needs to let Pikmin go.

It doesn't help that Other M was a fairly high budget game that sold very poorly and that Prime 3 was already showing a series decline in sales before it.

This goes well beyond where games sell better. It's a simple business decision. Pikmin is relatively cheap to make with a small team. Metroid games are higher budget with bigger teams. It's a numbers game. Pikmin may sell "less", but it doesn't need to sell as much to be profitable.

Nintendo did it to themselves. They killed Metroid. They're content with that fact, clearly.

From the title, I thought the OP would be advocating for Nintendo selling Pikmin to another publisher because it wasn't getting enough exposure.

Got exactly the opposite of what i was expecting.

This thread has been making me angry for four hours, and I have spent three hours and 57 minutes editing a two minute video into 40 seconds and being effectively cropped in an attempt to credibly encapsulate my feelings, only to discover I am not SunhiLegend and unable to add text because 1266 frames. Much as I want to finish the job of making a GIF for regular all purpose use across this forum and others, I can only leave it at this:

I bid you good night.

Pikmin is incredible! Pikmin 1 is one of my fav. I still hum many of the theme songs. Pikmin 2 was good, but I couldn't finish it. Pikmin 3, my wife loves, I haven't even played the single player, but she has many times. However, I have played hours of bingo battle either her and it is one of my most memorable multiplayer games. I love the pikmin.

When pikmin 1 came out, 8 could see the pikmin when I would close my eyes to sleep 😍

PS. Trust me, Metroid is coming back to Switch. 2018. Believe.

Pikmin 3 was fantastic. The co-op and Bingo Battle modes were the best possible multiplayer fun, where we've spent more than 100 hours.

The "new" 3DS game was just a filler platformer title, not a main Pikmin title.

This is exactly the time for them to be pushing pikmin. I feel like the portable environment is exactly what pikmin needs to get popular. Pikmin for Switch will easily be the best selling in the series I think

I to wish to grab my pitchfork and run the OP out of town. Pitman 3 was my introduction to the series and I demand more fun and unique games.

Pikmin is incredible. Pikmin 3 was the best in the series, the last level was so tense and the whole thing was gorgeous with amazing gameplay.

I don't understand people who don't enjoy it but I respect that not everyone likes the same thing. OP should do the same and let me have my Pikmin.

Everyone hating on OP but he does have a point. The game sells as well as other 3rd tier Nintendo games, yet Nintendo keeps making new games in the series while ignoring other games in a similar spot that could use a new entry in the franchise.

It doesn't make sense, yes Pikmin is a beautifully crafted game and we should be getting a new game here and there. But the way Nintendo supports it seems more of a passion project more then anything.

Pikmin 4 with online multiplayer (which I still think is hard to do since synchronizing 100 pikmins online might mean trouble?)could be a success if it works well in the laggy enviroment online is!

Wait 2 GameCube games which were ported to Wii then 1 game on WiiU which means 3 entries in 16 years does not constitute "Nintendo keeps making new games in the series"

Pikmin is a fun take on the genre. It might actually work better on mobiles in future and worth keeping. Nintendo should definitely keep it and continue to iterate Pikmin.

SMH at this thread. Leave Pikmin alone. Honestly the series was mishandled during the Wii era. It's sales started off decent for being a new ip/series on the Gamecube. When the Wii blew up they had the perfect opportunity to create a new Pikmin and leverage the Wii's popularity. I think a 3rd entry could've done really well if it had released in 2008-2009 on the Wii. 8 years after Pikmin 2, Pikmin 3 was released on Wii U and we don't need to remind people on how that worked out. Now they are releasing a Pikmin spinoff on the 3DS which is in its Twilight years so I'm not expecting that to do spectacular either.

With that said Pikmin is an irreplaceable series and I have fond memories of the series, especially 2. I replayed Pikmin 2 countless times. I look forward to hopefully seeing a Pikmin Switch in the next couple years.

Sorry OP, but i have to respectfully disagree.

Not only is Pikmin 3 the Wii U's best game , it is also one of the best of all time in my opinion.

I don't know the sales data of the series, and i don't really care, but instead of looking at it through the looking glass of just "sales", perhaps we should celebrate why it is so good instead, and just maybe, it may entice more people to pick it up and try it.

Also there are various games that have been on the edge of a sales disaster to only be turned round into a success: Fire Emblem.

Nintendo should stick at it, not only are they great games, but the Pikmin themselves are great marketing material.

I totally forgot about pikmin 3. I really liked first two even tho I didn't finish either. Maybe I should go get the 3rd one since many in this thread like it.

I haven't played any Pikmin games outside of 3's multiplayer with my cousin but I really liked what I did play. Kinda hope that the one rumor talking about the next Pikmin being a soft reboot is true so I can kinda just start with that one instead of feeling compelled to go through them in order.

Metroid does need to be revived though.

People like OP are why all the B and C tier titles we used to enjoy on PS1 and PS2 dried up and blew away.

I want more Brave Fencer Musashis, Coolboarders and Vandal Hearts.

I can't respect gamers that don't like Pikmin. Just like how I look down on people who don't like Monster Hunter. It's a pet peeve.

Let Pikmin go? I played Pikmin 3 on Wii U and it was fantastic. What really surprised me was how much fun the multiplayer portion of the game was. The Switch would be a perfect platform for this game. Man, and imagine if it had online play?

Thanks OP, now I'm reminded how much I want a new Pikmin game on the Switch.
