I do KIND of have a point though, that just swapping out a character doesn't create a 'new' game, and often only hurts what exists *cough*Raiden*cough*

I don't know. Raiden is a bad example because his entire purpose was to make the player feel

a complete loss of power. In fact the whole experience is giving you the ultimate badass Snake in the intro with minimal codec calls breaking the gameplay and an interactive environment that is never as involved or destructible as when you are the famous Solid Snake and then ripping exactly what you've been asking for away. It's all about robbing you of expectations and giving you a different experience to learn from.
