Nintendo retailer customer service training video (1991)

I'm not going to lie, seeing rows of factory sealed Gameboy games in the background got me hard. Also, the cleaning kit was $11.95? I had almost forgotten how nice it was when Nintendo didn't completely gouge consumers on peripherals.
(Yes, I know about inflation :p, they were still more reasonably priced back then.)

$20 is more reasonably priced? I've seen CD and DVD cleaning kits for under $5...

I didn't write $20... Anyways, the kit cleaned both the pins and contacts in the carts, so I'd say it was pretty straight. I confess though, I'm really just bitter about the cost of nunchucks and classic controllers, which are the cheapest feeling first party peripherals I've owned on a Nintendo system. They aren't even functional by themselves.

Except for the fact it was probably some tiny piece of cloth on plastic. Their cost was probably pennies on the dollar. :/

$20 is what the cleaning kit would cost today with inflation, which is what you were talking about. As for the cost of Nunchuck and Classic Controller, I've never gotten people's problems with those. $20 is pretty darn cheap for a game controller for *ANY* game system nowadays. Just be thankful they don't have to have the wireless radios in them, then they'd be like $35 or $40.

In that regard I guess not too much has changed in the world of peripherals. You're probably right in that I gave too much credit to that particular product. In all honesty though those cleaning carts work a lot better for the price than anything I've tried on discs short of professional resurfacing, and the effectiveness of cheap lens cleaners can vary wildly depending on how a system is manufactured.

First of all, why would the nun-chuck have its own Bluetooth? That doesn't make any sense. Besides, the fact remains that it has no funtionality by itself and that the overall feel is cheap. Secondly, I would take a wired classic controller with rumble any day of the week. There's a huge disparity between the build of the GC controller for $25 versus the nun-chuck or CC (which don't even function independently) for $20. Lastly, I should praise Nintendo for not inflating the price even more by inserting unnecessary tech? Don't be ridiculous. That's like thanking a pizza delivery place for not putting gold leaf on my meal. ZOMG, it would totally cost $50 a slice if they did that!

Sweet Jesus, what a can of worms I've opened. Apologies to the OP.

IMO, the Nunchuck is worth about $15 to me, but I do love the concept. One of the parts that would go bad the easiest on a controller was the analog stick. So, why have to buy a whole new controller when the analog stick goes bad when you can just take off and buy the analog stick for 1/3rd the cost (And then sell the broken one to gamestop and play dumb ;)

Also, I really REALLY wish Nintendo did repair services on controllers.

is it wrong that I've known that number by heart since I was 5?

Actually, the old school number that they haven't advertised since the SNES days but still works is:

1-800-422-2602

Was that cleaning kit even necessary? Friends and I always just blew on the cart and the connectors inside the system. The only bad part was getting dizzy sometimes. :lol

Blowing on the carts was a temporary fix which usually made the problem worse in the long run. Blowing into your NES was a really bad idea. Best thing was to occasionally use Q-tips with either alcohol or just plain tap water and keep your carts clean. If your system got dirty, your only option was to use the cleaning kit. However, the cleaning kit contributed to the bending of the pins in the cart connector inside the NES, which is pretty much the only way to really kill your NES. So it all comes back to keeping your carts clean in the first place, either with the cleaning kit or Q-tips. And using those dust sleeves.

That was great! I'm working at a customer service in a large store and damn, some people are stupid, like in de video :D

Does anybody have that training guide? I'd like to read it sometime!

Funny, I was actually expecting it to be a lot more cheezy then it actually is, it's actually pretty good!

Especially considering it's 18 years old. Didn't make me cringe one time.
