Nintendo reveals Wii MotionPlus -- 1:1 motion control add-on

I saw what you did there :lol
Happens to me often enough ;)

Good one :D

And that was 2 years ago. So if you are okay with missing something like that you dont have to run =p

I would :D

It's awesomer when you realize he's actually playing Wii Music, and not just being funny in Kodak Theater.

I'm just being nitpicky with this guy's wording. He talks about a "teaser for a trailer".

It makes it look like the Trailer is 1:1 (which doesn't mean anything) and not the game.

The trailer is 1:1 to real life.

I've never made it this far in Castlevania 4 before. Let me just say that if you have played Castlevania 4, but not made it to level 4, then you haven't really played Castlevania 4. First, there's a skull with a dong in its mouth, and it uses the dong to attack you. Then OH SHIT THE WHOLE LEVEL IS ROTATING. Then you're running through a perpetually-spinning tube. Then some crazy shrinking earth golem is the boss. Man I wish I was under the influence right now. On to level 5.

I'd buy a first-person remake of this game with 1:1 whip controls.

Yup. 2 years ago. But we dont know whether that part is still the same 2 years after the first showed it. Could very well be that they changed bits and parts and adjusted it to the new wiimote plus. This is going to be intereeeesting. And I should write on my term paper... <_<

Aaaw. Fuck that. Has to wait until tomorrow.

The one time living in Europe actually has an advantage! I don't have to stay up for it or whatever, I can simply relax and wait for the awesome to begin.

In honor of the Famicom's 25th birthday today, we should all play Donkey Kong or DK Junior for NES. Those were launch titles.
Holy shit, that is pretty awesome that it falls on the same day.

I love your totally out of place responses :D
Everybody is talking about condoms and and about Bundles and you simply go on playing Castlevania like there is nothing else to do. And tell us about it =)
You sir, are a fine, enduring man.

I'll further nitpick.

"Teaser for 1:1 Zelda Trailer" does not make it look like the trailer is 1:1, because "1:1" is modifying neither "teaser" nor "trailer." "1:1" is modifying Zelda. Hence,

"Teaser for 1:1 Zelda Trailer"

Please developers make a game featuring fisting with 1:1 so I can get fully immersed in the experience of virtually fisting someone. Please. Please! PLEASE!!!

What's that on the left side?

I think the little switch on the left, should be on the right of the MotionPlus add-on as well. to unplug the MotionPlus from the Wiimote.
Why would they need a switch to unplug it when the nunchuk doesn't use a switch? It just locks in.

I guess I could see it if it doesn't lock in, but I feel like it will, so I feel like this isn't a huge possibility.

I've never been able to figure out what's going on during the rotating level. Like, the second jump or whatever seems impossible, and I always give up there :(

Waking up to it already passed isn't the same as when it first hits right in front of your eyes.

It truly is a beautiful thing.
Feeling disappointment live is also better than expecting megatons and waking up to nothing.

Luckily I remembered to bring my headphones today. Listening to web broadcasts through crappy monitor speakers on low volume (at work) is awful.

the nunchuck requires you to squeeze the two side "buttons" to release it from the wiimote. that's all this is.

the nunchuk has the same switch for unpluging as well.
google a nunchuk pic.

Alright, I made it to level 8 in Castlevania 4. Game Over discouraged me, though. I'll try again later. Good way to burn 2 hours.

I played CV4 for the first time last month and was extremely disappointed. Even though I died a ton, I still beat the game in about two-and-a-half hours (according to my Wii playtime note thingy). While the boss fights were good, the level design and music were mostly uninspired.

That isn't to say all of the levels were bad. Some were very good, especially those that used mode-7 graphics. How the hell am I still impressed by Mode-7? I have no clue, but the level inside that spinning tube was awesome.

It was only worth the $8 because it sated my curiosity.

The game is good, for its time. That being said, the jumping is awful, and you jump a lot. It's just unresponsive and imprecise. It's downright mean of them to throw birds or medusa heads or fireball eye things at you during platforming moments over pits, but that's what Konami decided to do, and often. Still, there are some "holy hell!" moments, and I really don't mind the music. It's classic.

Anyone know if any of the feeds are watchable on my iphone? I have what it sure to be a long and boring meeting today at work, and I'd like nothing more than to be quietly watching the E3 conference in the corner.

What, we're gonna have to collect our Wiimote condoms all over again? Or are they gonna sell it to us this time? Or bundle it with the MotionPlus? Too many accessories and shit!

the dom should come WITH the MotionPlus.

Wouldn't it be better if, in addition to the add-on, future Wiimotes simply came with 1:1 rather than forcing people to purchase a third part of a controller?
That depends on how wide its use will be, how much it would change the cost, and whether they could fit it into the old form factor. I don't think people would be pleased if wiimotes as we know them were replaced by $60 versions that couldn't fit into the wheels/zappers/charging cradles/Nerf skins the market is full of.

Looking at the blown-up picture of the MotionPlus Wiimote, I really like how the glove on it looks and think it's cool that the bottom of it curves outwards like the bottom of a sword. Frankly, I think the Wiimote looks cooler with it and a glove on than without. Not that that's my primary concern - of course I want games that utilize the damn thing effectively - but I do like that it doesn't look like a tacked-on piece of shit.

1:1 swordfighting is still not possible with this unless your sword is supposed to cut through everything without resistance. Even the lightsaber can't cut through other lightsabers. If you blade gets deflected, there will have to be some kind of stagger animation where your on-screen blade goes briefly off course before it gets back to 1:1 position. And I'm not sure how 2 swords locking together could be implemented. It'll take a bit of skill to create a control and animation system that will look and feel natural.

I think some of you have your expectations too high for this 1:1 stuff. I'm not sure whats in that box, but I'm guessing it's a gyro. While that would dramatically increase the usefullness of the motion sensing, the controller still wouldn't know position changes very well without pointing at the sensor bar. Unless Nintendo has some allien technology in that box, that is something they can't do without an extensive external tracking setup

Kudos to Nintendo for reminding us of yet one more thing none of us knew we wanted until they told us so.

No one knew that we wanted 1:1 motion control? I'm sorry, this is good marketing by Nintendo but the subject had already been discussed to death and beyond, and it was high on many people's wishlist.

Master Sword >>> Lightsaber

Believe.

Easy solution: If you can't stop actions in the real world, make it as if the in-game world can't stop the movement and reacts thusly. Instead of going through a shield, the shield and its holder (the enemy) get shot back with the momentum/trajectory your input provides. Hell, because a Stalfos is just a 50-60 lb. skeleton (maybe 100 with weapons and armor) that's what I'd expect anyways. :lol

Seriously, it's not like anything ever stops Link's sword most of the time anyway, and things that do stop it cause it to bounce off, not lock in place.

Is tug-of-war style pushing really a big part of swordfighting in the first place? That's what shields are for...If anything it's done in movies to add tension, not because it happens in real life. Deflection does seem more realistic.

Nintendo should have delayed Wii Music to take advantage of the MotionPlus. Pretty much every standard Wii game looks antiquited in comparison now. Wii Music looked stilted and awkward compared to the smoothness of Wii Sports Resort. Such a wasted opportunity to show off great technology.

It's as if Nintendo is assuming they'll be completely sold out for Christmas again, so is just pretending like Holiday Season 08 doesn't even exist...

Might I just say that 1:1 motion is great but what's the point when there aren't any games to use with it? I'm sure there are games that are being developed but none are announced along with the peripheral? I mean Wii Sports Resort and Wii Music are going to be ok and all but I want something interesting. And no, to me Animal Crossing does not count. How could Nintendo bomb two years in a row? This conference isn't rocket science. I guess since the casual crowd is their main target now, all of us who have supported Nintendo over the years are going to get the royal screw job... Thanks Nintendo... thanks for forgetting about the hardcore gamers. We appreciate it.

Should have kept this for the conference. :/ Would've blown everyone away.

Although that notwithstanding, there definitely SHOULD have been a core game that uses it there. Red Steel 2, Zelda... anything!
