Nintendo Says No NX and No Smart Device Announcements at E3

I want to say I'm surprised anyone thought NX stuff was coming any time soon but people went crazy with that news. E3 isn't really the venue for mobile so I'm not surprised about that.

With all due respect I think you are out of your element and have very little understanding of what you speak. There is no a WiiU price drop/fire sale happening, there are great releases on the horizon and Nintendo is profiting.

There is no fire sale because there is no stock to discount. Nintendo is only profiting because they are selling very little stock at a high price. There is no price drop because Nintendo has no real interest in manufaturing a significant amount of consoles. In other words, they have no real interest in selling this console and expanding the userbase. They know any price drop will just cost them money.

There really are not many great releases on the horizon, and Nintendo knows this. They know their lineup, especially without Zelda, is not very good, so they are content on keeping the $299 price because a price cut wouldn't do shit.

Nintendo's E3 is looking relatively meh so far. No NX, no Zelda. What else do they have?

- New Smash and MK DLC

- Xenoblade Chronicles X

- Mario Maker

- Yoshi: WW

- Star Fox finally revealed

- SMT x FE

- FE: If

Hopefully there's some decent new announcements. Paper Mario is a good start, but they're going to have to do a lot more that that to really wow gamers, journalists, and the rest of the industry.

Obviously, there unfortunately still is a year left in which they pretend that the WiiU isn't dead. I wouldn't have minded info on the account system that comes with the smartphone thing, but I guess that might not be a thing to talk about at E3.

Off course not, E3 will be all about that DQ7 localization!

After all these years, I keep dreaming...

With this quote here, I don't understand what you want. Especially why do you want NX. By the end of its life Wii U will have all the big Nintendo franchise on it and yet you write this shit. NX (being a handheld, console, hybrid, gimmick, cloud, streaming or whatever) will most probably have quite a similar line-up, so why do you want it?

Introducing the Game Binder

Less than a year from the New 3DS? That would be a huge dick move

dsi xl released november 2009 in japan
3ds announced June 15, 2010

"new" 3ds released October 2014 in japan
next handheld announced.....

less than a year is very common for nintendo, they announce new handhelds all the time soon after releasing one last 'new' version.

No Metroid, No F-Zero, No Star Fox. :(

Star Fox was already announced, Metroid 2d and 3d was already hinted and most probably that means one for 3ds, one for Wii U. If F-Zero won't make an appearance on Wii U there are even less chances to be on the next hardware

Edit: and I said "big franchises", none of these three are in that category unfortunately.

I'm only hoping for new 3DS games. Second half of the year has as good as nothing coming out for it right now and even though I wouldn't put it past current Nintendo, that revision couldn't have been for nothing but an ugly version of Xenoblade and a few titles being playable with the terrible nub. It's also the only platform which could see the bolded coming out for it, considering that WiiU won't get anything big anymore, because of it still failing to crack 10 mil sold (making everything on it an automatic bomb beyond hope and certainly most unknown projects plus Zelda moved to NX). Even though the last big 3DS announcments for the same year usually happened in April Directs at latest, I think they might have saved their Fall/Winter 3DS games to be announced at E3 this time, to somewhat cover up the fact that WiiU will mostly focus on the things we already know about. (Or they've now dropped the ball on 3DS just as hard as with WiiU).

Announcement at E3 2016 with a release that holiday season. For their next home console. Just like PS4. Just like Xbox One. Just like Nintendo DS.

It's obvious to me that Nintendo is holding back with Wii U. They know it's a flop, they know they will be replacing it soon, and right now it's just a game for them to drip out tiny amounts of content, just enough to appear as if they are supporting the console, while in reality it's days are numbered.

I bought Wii U day one. I'm not happy with the current situation. I don't want my Nintendo home console to have absolutely zero third party support, and a few first party releases a year. If the next two years of Wii U are going to be like this, I would rather fork over the cash for a new console if it means I get more games on a consistent basis.

Also, "all the major franchises" is quite a stretch. We have no idea if the roster will significantly improve. As of now we are missing many franchises (Metroid, Excite, Mario Sports games, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, etc). I am hopeful that NX can be successful out of the gate so Nintendo can give us most of their franchises, not just the major ones.

As of now, we don't have Zelda, Animal Crossing, Metroid and plenty more, and Nintendo is already playing the drip drip drip game so I would just as soon get it over with.

Plus, third party is gone and that certainly hurts. I mean even most indies at this point prioritize other platforms before Wii U. Maybe NX has a chance at better support.

I fully expected this (though we do know from the recent financial statement that there will be a mobile release by the end of the year), but I take this as an encouraging sign. The 3DS is more than able to coast until late 2016, and this also assures us that there should be continued first-party support for the Wii U on top of the titles we already expect in next year (Zelda, SMTxFE, probably Pokken.) It's certainly in the interests of appealing to Nintendo's E3/Direct-watching core market to treat the mobile business as a separate arm of how the company deploys its IP, comparable to the Mario Kart arcade games but evidently with a far greater reach.

My worry, as someone who never adopts the late-life portable revisions, is that they'll go too far in pushing New 3DS exclusives. At this point I expect Pokémon Z (or its equivalent) to be n3DS-only, or at least the next big title to push the n3DS, and I have no objections to ports of titles like Xenoblade I can play elsewhere, but I'd hate to see something like a new Metroid exclude the existing 3DS user base. Thankfully, there isn't much precedent for that in earlier, similar systems like the DSi.

Obviously Nintendo is struggling to move units, but as a player, speaking solely for myself, I'd rather hear about software than hardware. I don't remotely feel the need for a new box just yet, portable or console. (But then my interests are not the market's interests.) I also have my doubts that an off-cycle Nintendo console with power parity would make any headway with third parties, which seems to be the main consideration for people who want Nintendo to compete on power. It wouldn't put them ahead with this generation, but set them behind again for the next one.

In any case: good news, assuming they can deliver on a good software lineup for 2016 (although there's nothing to say it won't wind up like last year's announcements—all very encouraging until it unfolded that there were once again only two pre-E3 releases for the Wii U, Kirby and Splatoon, like DKCTF and MK8 the year before, while Yoshi, Mario Maker, and Zelda were all bumped back). Given that Zelda may not be shown at E3 at all I don't expect it any earlier than November 2016, while it's anyone's guess how early we'll get SMTxFE when you consider localization. So the question is what we can expect to be the big announcement for May 2016 (the MK8/Splatoon slot, with an announcement at the preceding E3). It could very well be Metroid—Retro and Next Level are both unaccounted for—but I have the feeling it will be something with wider appeal than that; think Animal Crossing, Mario Strikers, or even a second Wii U 3D Mario. (Although personally, I think an EAD 3D Mario would be in the best position as the launch title for the successor system, unless we are in for another Twilight Princess scenario—which I highly doubt, but wouldn't rule out either.)

Um. Star fox was announced last e3.
I just want it to come out soon :(

Metroid is big to me :(

I'm only surprised cause it sounded like they might have been trying to position the NX as a 3rd pillar, so an announcement soon wouldn't have been outta the realm of possibility. No QoL is also a bit surprising since they've been silent about that for a while. I know E3-period is all about games, but I guess they can do whatever they want on their Direct.

Still, it's good news I guess cause it means just more games-focused presentation.

So let's focus on what they probably will show.

  1. Starfox
  2. Project Treasure
  3. Smash DLC
  4. FE x SMT
  5. FE:If
  6. The Devil's Third

That's what we can kinda figure out based on what we know already.

I think Pokken will also be announced. And probably the new Ace Attorney game.

I also think we may see the replacement for Club Nintendo.

We'll see some new unannounced stuff, but I really don't know what that'll be. I expected the worst last year and it ended up being pretty damn solid.

I really don't think Devil's Third hits their press conference but is instead shown after like last year. That game has way too much realistic human dismemberment to be shown during a direct.

This isn't Fatal with ghosts or Bayonetta with its mythical creatures.

These are regular humans getting chopped up. Not to mention that the main character's idle animations are him smoking and drinking.

My third most excited Wii U game after Xenoblade and Splatoon.

I really think we see Pikmin 4. It's probably the easiest new major game to make since you would just reuse the same engine and a lot of the assets can be reused.

Excite is a dead franchise that unfortunately has no place in the current industry. As much as I would like a Mario Strikers, I'm not sure they are able to do a good one by today's standards. That's actually the issue for all these franchises (except Zelda and Animal Crossing), it's very difficult to transpose them in the modern world of gaming, with gamers having huge expectations in terms of graphics and features and by comparison to similar games out there. We can already see that in all the discussions about Star Fox. But Nintendo can sometime do miracles, so you might want to check your post again at the end of Wii U's life.

As for hoping for 3rd party support for NX, depends very much on what kind of 3rd party, because if you think of western developers, I really don't think they will take another shot at it until the sales are there. In a world that gets tougher and tougher for AAA productions, I don't see anyone taking again risks with another Nintendo console unless it's a proven market.

I want Black Ops 3 to be announced for Wii U at E3

There's your November game

All kidding aside, I still play BO2 on wii u till this day, I want BO3

This E3 will be about nintendo revealing a top-secret team of Slatoon ninjas who will ink the entire conference. Literally.

I honestly can't tell sometimes if these posts are serious or if people are living in an alternate future where Mortal Kombat II was still censored on SNES.

Why wasn't it at last year's E3 presentation then but reveal literally as soon as it was done on IGN?

Remember Nintendo has no problem with publishing games mature but when was there ever a general Nintendo Direct with even close to the gore of Devil's Third?

I don't know, probably just the level of development it was at. I don't know for sure if it'll get a general Direct or not, but I think we're past this "too mature for Nintendo" stuff. Maybe I'm wrong, though.

Good. I don't want a new console. I don't want a new paradigm shift for Nintendo right now. I want games for the one I have. I love my Wii U and all the games I own for it. They're all first party and that's all I need.

All I want from E3 is an announcement of two more Mario Kart 8 DLC packs with 16 more tracks and more characters, and a Galaxy 2-esque 3D World 2 announcement. Maybe even Captain Toad 2. Though I don't want them to blow their wad so soon.

I'd even take another NSMBU expansion like NSLU.

I like Mario. Give me a lot of Mario to help the wait for Zelda and Star Fox.
