Been trying out the new Warframe update for S2. I played this a ton on Switch 1 but put it down after about 80 hours. Jumped back in now and it's a great time. This is one of the rare live service games I do enjoy, just because it gives you so much of the game before you even spend one cent. It also plays equally good in both solo and co-op. Looks and plays phenomenal on Switch 2. 60 fps at a crisp 1080p, although it suffers some frame drops when the action gets intense. But mostly solid performance. One of the best aspects with this new update is the loading times. This was the main reason I dropped out of the game on Switch 1 because loading times when entering the open world fields such as Plains of Eidolons were really long. Like several minutes long. Now? A few seconds at most. Overall this is a huge update that transforms the game into the great experience it always had potential to, but couldn't manage due to the weak hardware of Switch.

Yeah it's a spinoff game with a more single player focus to it.

Picked up Kirby Air Riders at Costco for $30 which is honestly about the right price for this game. Feels like Mario Kart mixed with Smash Bros menus and short burst play sessions.

Did the tutorials and tried each of the race modes. The single player road trip thing is definitely my favorite.

Game is okay but honestly glad I didn't pay full price.

Yeah Costco here has KAR, Z-A and MP4 for $30. Do I hear $20?

Mario Tennis probably going to ride the discount train as well in a few months.

I'm really glad that Overwatch, Apex and Rocket League have now all been patched for the Switch 2.

They all look and play amazing docked, and with cross play being so easy I can play with my brother who's using Steam.

I'm not a pixel counter, however to me the performance is exceptional and just like any other home console I've used.

The pro controller is so comfy as well.

I've been playing a lot of Rocket League on Switch 2 since they updated it and it's great.

It's a weird strategy. If Star Fox really is announced for June, then Nintendo absolutely had enough content for a February/March Direct.

Maybe they think each individual announcement gets more attention this way, but, from a fan's perspective, it's pretty lame.

I'm usually patient with this stuff but with all the leaks and rumors and ratings that's been going on now for a while, I think it's really lame of Nintendo to not announce a Direct. Stuff is obviously cooking behind the scenes so what's the hold up? I wouldn't mind a Partner Direct doing third party announcements because that is what I primarily play on Switch 2. It's frustrating to be honest, mostly because I want a release date for Elden Ring and The Duskbloods.

Never have I cancelled a preorder (Amazon) just to re-preorder (Walmart) so fast. Talking about Splatoon of course.

I'm not so sure it is just a "period". New CEO, new platform, it's quite possible that a new marketing approach is in place. Maybe they figure they get just as much brand awareness from these random Nintendo Today drops and they can save on Direct marketing costs. Maybe they figure only knowing about 1-2 games releasing in the future gives people FOMO and makes it more likely they will buy games they were hesitant about, fearing there will be nothing else on the horizon. Maybe they are sick of the online crowd constantly spamming insults at them in the Youtube chat or being angry at Nintendo if a 40 minute commercial doesn't entertain them the entire time. Who knows? But there was plenty of announcements that could have been a direct, plenty of reasons why Nintendo would want to make a splash and get people excited about their new console, but they aren't doing it. So if they are planning on keeping Directs a mainstay of their marketing, why skip it now?

Personally, I'm too old and not enough of a nerd to care about hype, so in one sense I don't care. But Directs are useful agglomerations of information, and I do appreciate having a good idea of what is coming up in the year. So yeah, it annoys me too. And on a detached level, I am still completely boggled by the fact that Nintendo's entire marketing strategy for the Switch 2 appears to be to piss off the hardcore crowd as much as possible.

I speculated before that the mid-Direct is now gone. They will still do General Directs, but they will be big ones focused almost entirely on new announcements for stuff we've never seen before. Then they will use Nintendo Today to fill in information about those titles that we would've previously seen at an in-between Direct.

Just finished Resident Evil 9. Had a great time with the game. The atmosphere, graphics and story sell me more than anything else. Gameplay is good, but for my tastes it only stops at good because I'm so used to games like Mario, Zelda or Donkey Kong which allow me to interact with the environment much more significantly. Still I'm sold enough to go back and get into Village and that other one available. Worth every penny.

Just started FFVII Remake and holy moly is the presentation blowing me away. I walked Cloud into a corner and looked deep into his in game eyes and I was stunned. Switch 2 can do this?! Between the Wii U and Switch I've been stuck on PS360 level hardware for ages, so for me this is a massive jump. I never really looked at the previews or gameplay, I just knew I wanted the game eventually. Clouds face and eyes look almost real to me. I can't imagine how it looks for you XBox or PS5 players. So glad I went through the original PSX version before I jumped in.

Man Square and Capcom… Between them, Bananza and potential Star Fox, I feel like I got my spiritual successor to the Super Nintendo already.

Xiv's story and lore are fun. It has a decent number of social activities. The combat is the game's worst party.

If multiple retailers are discounting the physical versions, that's huge. It's basically a de facto $10 price drop on all new first party Switch 2 games.

I remember how the Atari Lynx blew my mind back in 1989 with the likes of California Games, Blue Lightning, Electrocop, and Gates of Zendocon. Those games were leagues ahead of anything at home. Now look at how stunning modern graphics are today, and how most players will just take it all for granted. I think there's going to be some challenge if you want to unlock everything, but it seems designed for kids, so just beating it is going to be easy.

I'm a big Yoshi fan so I'm very interested in seeing how this turns out. Though by big fan I suppose I mean I'm a big Yoshi's Island fan. Every game since has been a massive disappointment or just entertaining enough to complete 100%.

I keep hearing from previews that it's like Mario 64 in 2D. By that I believe they mean the exploration aspect of it. I really do like the sound of that even if it means we can't die or fail in the usual sense. One thing about Yoshi's Island and Mario World that I thought has never been fully replicated or bested in 2D sequels is the way we can explore stages. If this game allows levels to feel like there is some mystery involved by wandering off of the beaten 2D path then in mildly excited.

The art style is the best it's been since the original. Yoshi's Story was such a downgrade from Island in almost every aspect I still wonder how that game became the default way Yoshi aesthetics were presented going forward. We got a few games that used the original SNES crayon style but this game takes that style and completely modernizes it. Love the look.

Also am I wrong that the Yoshi's Island team went on to make Mario 64? That would explain so much if they left Yoshi behind for good. If 2D Yoshi games will forever be made for younger audiences, I hope 3D Yoshi comes around incorporating all his crazy movement options from Sunshine, Galaxy 2 and Odyssey. I want Yoshi's Bananza Odyssey.
