Nintendo Switch Dock Mod Thread

A crafty Nintendo Switch owner has re-purposed a Nintendo 64 into a working Nintendo Switch dock.

This blew my mind, and now I realize just how badly I'm wanting to see more functional, DIY Nintendo Switch dock mods. Here's another mod for a mini dock that you can 3D print and assemble yourself.

Has anyone else seen any cool dock mods, or have any neat ideas for one? Share your thoughts, pictures, and projects here. I've seen some amazing things come out of the Raspberry Pi thread, so I know we have members of our community who can create incredible little machines. Can't wait to see what we come up with in the years to come.

I modded my dock by shoving a book and socks in it for 2 days and heating it up with a blowdryer and letting it cool so that I can easily slide my switch inside.

10/10, would mod again.

But seriously, I'm excited to see what people come up with -- so many possiblities.

Thought this would be another dock whine thread but that N64 one is legit. Hope to see more creative stuff like that; the minimal ones are meh.

If Nintendo don't sell a vast array of gimmick docks (and joycons for that matter) they're crazy. So much money to be made from what is essentially cheap plastic.

I want to see colorful docks. r/NintendoSwitch had a post where the dock was in yellow. It looked really cool. In fact, I'm excited to see special edition Switches like the 3DS.

I dunno why but I really like those smaller ones. Especially that green one. It's kind of hard to tell from the picture, but is the plastic translucent? It reminds me of those old see-through N64s. I have a VERY specific, and VERY deep love for translucent colored gaming hardware.

Mmm, yes.

I may try to 3D print one at work eventually...

I like this one:

My dock has a slight inward bend but it has not scratched my Switch (I would assume this is the main reason people are interested in different docks) so I dunno. The one that came with my Switch is just fine to be honest.

Were you around when that translucent GBC came around? I'm convinced that anyone who was a kid during that magical time HAS to love translucent plastic hardware. I'm in love with translucent Dreamcasts, too. Hmm maybe I need a translucent colored console thread =P

Wow, that's sleek as f**k.

N64 looks so cool. Only problem is that you won't be able to charge the joycons anymore.

Also the small ones are not looking bad and seemed portable enough for me.

It bothers me that the screen is showing game video while docked. That's not how the Dock works. This is a charging station.

I was and I hated then. I believe my GBA was translucent. Disgusting.

I think... there's a cool idea here, I'm just not seeing any viable execution that intrigues me. Yet. But I'm sure it'll happen!

That's really cool! Love to see a SNES dock too.
I had the same though, I did some quick measurements, and I think the width of the switch is actually (without joycons) exactly the width of an SNES, actually about 1/10th an inch narrower, might work with some modifications.

But then I thought maybe the color scheme might not be awesome with the black switch (since it is wider than the origional SNES cart).

Tempting though... Especially if you could get the SNES cartridge hinge to work with the newly widened slot :)

Nice, any chance you have a link to the blueprint?

EDIT: got it

This looks incredible...

Pretty sure NES Classic doesn't even exist anymore. Like I always see people on here asking "When will it be back in stock?!" but really, when is the last time someone actually bought one?

I'm curious about wether or not some of these mods are blocking the fan intake.

I don't think any other Nintendo console would support a Switch with the Joy-Cons attached so I'm out, but I'll be taking a gander at the NES dimensions just in case.

Then I can burst your theory! I was a young lad when the translucent gameboys where around and I hated them then as I hate them today.
Never understood the love for it.
