Do we know if the dock does any additional processing yet?

"The main function of the Nintendo Switch Dock is to provide an output to the TV, as well as charging and providing power to the system."
Nintendo said that it's just to charge the thing and plug it to the TV. If there are other details we'll know officially soon I guess.Do we know if the dock does any additional processing yet?
Yeah, the trailer told me:
1. This plays current gen looking games (Skyrim, Splatoon, Zelda, Mario) Literally two of the games shown are current gen ports!
2. But you can pick up and play on the go.
I think I'm agreeing with you.I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not but the trailer inarguably expressed a portable machine that also works at home. I'm not saying that is good or bad, just expressing surprise at the nature of the trailer. Same as most people who watched it.
The games looked great for mobile or home but I just watched the reveal of a new portable.
The distinction may be moot.
I know people who play 80% of their ds on the couch.
I will more than likely barely ever use this as a portable, probably never split off the rinkydink side controllers for any reason.
Hoping it's a kick ass, competitive home console.
Would anyone as a switch owner end up with two portable devices? the fact that theyre still considering handhelds with this is bizarre
Any console can be saved by a great line up, but as long as the games are a complete mystery? Yeah, it's a pretty big deal.A good gaming device is defined by teraflops to you?
Was the DS a bad handheld because the psp existed?
What's hard to grasp about that? A hybrid can easily end up being a jack of all trades, master of none, and it seems to be that way to me, for now.
It's the same thing they did with the DS, which they said was not a successor to the GBA even though it clearly was. This lets them save face if the console fails and they have to pivot and push out a 3rd generation DS.I'm literally baffled. The trailer did not express anything of the kind.
This feels like the opposite of the 'third pillar' talk back in the day.
In that, if the Switch bombs, they can pretend it was always just a Wii U successor and crank out a handheld with 'DS' in the title.
Horrible battery confirmed?
Hmm , if that was true then why so many compromises to make this portable? Game cards, underpowered hardware (compared to peers), including snappable controllers and a reveal that boasts it's mobility over traditional home entertainment. Seems like a portable that allows you to connect to you TV. Not the other way round.
In terms of strength, it likely won't usurp the current consoles on the market, but well, given how it's gonna have a unified Nintendo backing it....
Switch gonna be a bitch to design games for.Which path to take?Handheld or console design?
Drastically different types of games. Not just in terms of graphics either.
Nintendo is risking it yet again ,but maybe it will pay off unlike Wii U.
Compromised? How is it possibly compromised?
From software partners and Nvidia confirmation, it seems the tech is there and quite possibly the 3rd party support.
Nintendo will of course have all of its games, portable and home.
It has "normal" controls.
This seems like a great Nintendo console to me.

It's one device. There are no "paths"
You have to design your game to be fully playable as a handheld game and as a traditional console game as well.
That sounds pretty difficult to balance. Both technically and in terms of game design.

Yeah, with how Iwata was pitching this idea back in the day, I'm assuming this is a market positioning thing, especially since this is looking likely to be a $300+ device with $60 games.
