Nintendo Switch is currently outpacing PS4 launch alligned.

ALL PS4 SHIPMENTS

Fair enough. I maintain calling a tie is probably the best for everyone's sanity lol.

The exactly same period (month) is not possible.
Switch shipment data are month 1, 4, 7...31, 34... Sony shipment data are month 2, 5, 8...32, 35...

Both Sony and Nintendo data are in financials but you need to enter in all of them to get it.

Sony:https://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/library/presen/er/archive.html
Nintendo: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/earnings/

Sorry if I was impolite :( I edited my post.

No harm no foul man, I actually enjoy these back-and-forths and I can be pretty harsh a lot of the times because I just get carried away. I haven't been able to fully confirm the month by month numbers myself, but everything I've read seems to point at a deadlock. It's either tied or as close as it can be to being fully tied. We're just going to have to wait it out.

Your imagination is wrong.

Back to the topic.

Kind of cool to see how Switch is the fastest selling console in this Generation 😎
Nope.

First your table uses Sold-thought to Sony and Shipment to Switch.
Second the month are wrong for example Switch had its month 34... not 33.

Example... the table should show:

Month 34 > Switch 52.48m
Month 36 > PS4 47.4m

These are facts.
The Zhuge graph is showing correct data.

To be fair, we're still within Pokémon radius, Lite is still pretty new and Animal Crossing is coming out soon which is a surprisingly large franchise, so the Switch could continue to trend upwards and close the gap on the Wii. That's more likely than the sales trending downwards.

No price drop too, even $200 version of SKU was outsold greatly by $300 SKU.

Hybrid nature of the system really what's selling the console the most.

Sales analyst or some random users
🤭

It doesn't take a genius to count months and compare official numbers. Comparing 3 years of each console being on the market and ps4 is clearly ahead. Are you gonna ignore the official 48 million sell through number from Nintendo and the fact they are forecasting to only ship 1.6 million units the next quarter because they clearly over shipped.

Sony won't have the advantage of facing off against that botched Xbox One launch. I think the PS5 will do better than the SEX, it might even do better than the Switch or PS4. But they won't have the momentum of their main competitor fucking up as hard as they did in the past gen.
I kind of expect Microsoft to have a very solid performance this time around with the XSEX that will surprise many people.

last year switch got a massive boost from switch lite, and a nice boost from the switch with new battery, Not to mention nextgen pokemon. This year it only has animal crossing. I expect a downtrend. plus with nextgen consoles coming out it wont be the hottest gift for the holidays.

And it's selling regardless of what happens. There was that one time they had to lower the estimated sales and it could have been a bad thing, since then it came back punching and it's just delivering. It's just a desirable hardware, it feels like only Nintendo themselves could mess up this momentum.

Nextgen Pokémon is still a thing, it came out in November. It's probably selling crazy still now and there's DLC to come. Switch Lite has no reason to slow down and Animal Crossing is a very big franchise. I'd only expect a downtrend if Nintendo punts the second half of the year. For the first six months, it's going to be clear sailing.

I like the SEX, but I do have some questions with it. After a relatively bad experience with the Xbox One, that's probably more than I thought I'd say for the next Microsoft console so I supposed that indeed they're doing something well.

Last year.
Mario Kart 8 sold nearly 8 million units.
Smash Ultimate sold over 5 million units.
Zelda BOTW sold over 4 million units.
SMO and SMP sold over 3 million units.
LM3 and RFA are going to follow that kind of leg as well.

Animal Crossing (10-15M seller) + Evergreen titles + unannounced AAA titles = 💪

The holiday is where Nintendo makes most of it's sales, and this year they just don't have anything close to a nextgen pokemon and a 199$ switch lite launch., Not to mention ps5 and sex will be the most wanted holiday gifts since they will be the new hotness.

We'll see how it plays out though.

2017, Nintendo has released all AAA games like Mario Kart, 3D Zelda, 3D Mario, and Splatoon 2! There's no way 2018 going to replicate that.

2018, Nintendo has released many blockbusters in this year like Smash Ultimate, Pokemon Let's Go, and SMP! There's no way 2019 going to surpass that.

2019, Nintendo has released the new mainline Pokemon game! There's no way 2020 going to replicate this year feat.

2020, ....

Switch Lite didn't even sell that greatly based on the shipment numbers for Q3. If hybrid SKU received price drop in this year then the chance for Switch to surpass last year number is very high. Nintendo didn't even bother to release Lite version of animal crossing SKU lol.

2018 was pretty flat considering it was the second year for the console. second year usually way up for consoles. I think switch lite had a massive impact. it was only out for what 3 months and 10 days in 2019 and accounted for 23% of switch sales. 199$ during the holidays makes it a easy choice for those on a budget.

Nintendo didn't think Switch Lite make a big impact in 2019.

They stated the sales are nearly the same even without Switch Lite and likely to sell higher if Switch lite wasn't released in 2019 to compete against Hybrid SKU.

you mean this part? it doesn't say anywhere switch would likely sold higher, and again you can see the boost in hardware sales when switch lite launched in the charts.

This chart compares total sell-through of the Nintendo Switch family in Japan, North America, and Europe for April through December of 2018 and 2019. You can see that sales in 2019 of Nintendo Switch alone, shown in dark red, were close in scale to the sell-through of 2018, and that Nintendo Switch Lite added to the results to boost overall sell-through. However, we feel that we have not yet fully communicated the special features and appeal of Nintendo Switch Lite, so we will continue to address this going forward.
