Nintendo Switch launches with 330,637 units in Japan

With the potential of a traditional Pokemon, Monster Hunter, Splatoon 2 and potentially a Yokai Watch game on the Switch...

It would take a very special level of stupidity for it to fail in Japan.

I want bombaman numbers

I don't have any numbers, but Bomberman opened at number 7 in the UK.

Definitely looks like it's what the japanese wanted. They're more into portables than the rest of the world.

Has there been any reports on whether the Japanese player-based are experiencing the same issues (so far) with bent docks or left joy-con sync problems?

The joycons have no sync problems, it's the americans hands that are too big...

Well, it's a good thing I have smaller hands (hey, don't imply anything else!).

Still, worried about that dock, though. Not sure if I should take the gamble and open up my Switch that arrived a few days or just send it back and wait it out. I don't have a screen protector for it yet either, as all of the stores near me are sold out. :(

There's nothing to worry about, man. Got my system, works great. Played a few games and have been enjoying it a lot. Play and enjoy. Less worry.

Yeah, jokes aside, the people with problems are the minority, it's really good that it had a great start in Japan.

Nice to see. I can't wait till it's summer to really get a picture of how it's doing. I remember Wii U dropped off after 2 months.

Is Mario kart launching worldwide the same day? I hope they push up the release date a week earlier...

Yeah, I might just take the leap and go ahead with it. If the dock/joy-con continue to be a concern, I'm sure Nintendo will do something (replace all of the defected items). I do really want to play Zelda on it, and while I could experience it as well on the Wii U, I know I'll want a Switch for Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey, and a few other games releasing this year, and I'm guessing there won't be a price-drop/revision in that time-frame. The most that will happen is re-designed docks/joy-con which, again, I hope Nintendo send out anyway to those with earlier batches.

In any case, my Pro Controller should arrive tomorrow. Once it does, I'll probably unpack everything, dock the Switch, and just use the Pro Controller for everything until my screen protector arrives. I'd like to think simply docking it once and leaving it there won't cause damage to the screen (until the screen protector is delivered). I might do the foam insert (the one the device comes wrapped in) as a shield of sorts, as I see more than a few adopting that method.

if I spend $299 I have the right to worry!

Sincerely,

My broke ass.

I'm broke, too. But I don't think there's anything to be gained by worrying about everything. We're talking about man-made products and problems happen, but they're minor and Nintendo will fix them if that's the case.

Good numbers. I'm fairly pessimistic about the long term sales of Switch in the west. But in Japan it has nearly all the ingredients to be a sizable hit.

If they can snag most of the Vita/3DS/ and Wii U crowd they would have a big hit in JPN.

Yeah, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is releasing worldwide on April 28th.

they better stock the hell out the Switch for that. Splatoon 2 on a portable console with the ability to play with 8 players locally in Japan? should be fun

I could definitely see them doing that.

Nintendo had better 'ink twice with those productions numbers. Splatoon 2 will make a huge splash in Japan. If you think otherwise, you're squid-din' yourself.

It will be massive. I see groups of kids playing 3DS's together all the time. It will turn into Switch when they eventually get them for birthday/Christmas/NY. People don't need to worry about Switch in Japan. It will be as big as 3DS easily.

well that's not really impressive.
Nintendo's new portable console with Zelda, Bomberman and 1-2 switch couldn't beat the feb. launch "Killzone PS4" ?

I obviously can't speak for Japan as a whole, but in the mainstream media I am exposed to here, I haven't seen anything. Then again I am guessing that the US mainstream media is also not talking about it.

I am sure there are people on 2chan or the like talking about it but I would say very few non-hardcore gamers are even aware that there is an issue.

Gotcha, thanks for the update!

Well they sold all that they shipped. It's hard to know what they would have sold had supply met demand.

But yeah, we can surely be disappointed in Nintendos production issues.

Nintendo needs to get splatoon 2 out as soon as possible hopefully by June.

I think if Nintendo is ready to have a global test in about two weeks, then the final release shouldn't be that too far off. Having the game out in June would be a good way to tide fans over until the fall rolls in with big games.

That's pretty good, not a bomb at all so far. Wonder if it's gonna affect 3DS sales since it's not a handheld....;)
inb4 it is!

Personally I think a real Pokémon game for this Holiday is a major deal for continued momentum, especially in the US.

The brand is as big or bigger than it has ever been and a legit Pokémon game in Fall will do wonders to continue momentum through the Holidays
