Nintendo Switch: Nvidia "NVN" graphics API?

Well prepare for disappointment unless you mean capable of rendering in 1080p, which I have no doubt it'll be able to considering the Wii U had a number of 1080p games and Nintendo has never gone backwards, resolution wise or power wise

You're literally like .001% of the population who cares about 1080p on a handheld gaming device 720p is more than enough. Its still HD. 1080p is a big power and battery draw. Not even worth it.

Nvidia has a huge opportunity to enter the console market with a bang, if Sony and Microsoft see this working they can go back to Nvidia for semi custom design next gen like on Ps3 or Original Xbox.

I remember Nvidia saying Ps3 chip was more powerful than the most powerful graphics on Pc on Sli, that's was huge, the RSX.

Would love next gen to feel like Ps360 again, those machines come ahead of their time, 360 a 2005 machine still amazes me today what I they got out of it.

The only possible difference between docked and un-docked will be 720p when mobile and 1080p in TV mode.

There's no way there will be any other graphical enhancements in TV mode, and there cannot be a lower framerate or downgraded graphics in mobile mode. Not without a large backlash, anyway. Nintendo need this to be as capable on the road as it is at home - it would trash it's unique selling point otherwise.

This, it defeats the purpose of the Switch if games are way worse in portable mode

The GPU + OS thing isn't promising for the battery life, but it sounds like a new normal thing to do (usage of the GPU as a GPGPU).

Moving things to the GPU is actually often better for battery life. It's (partly) why we GPU accelerated video now, smooth scrolling on Windows and OSX both is GPU accelerated, etc.
Just because the OS can take advantage doesn't mean the GPU would run full bore for it.

Is it possible that this is Vulcan + extensions fully optimised for Nvidia architecture ?

It wouldn't surprise me. Vulkan is open source, it wouldn't make much economic sense to toss the whole project and start anew. Just as Vulkan and Metal themselves heavily leaned on Mantle.

Ditching Power architecture and AMD might be the best thing Nintendo has done. A pairing of Nvidia and Nintendo might be a great combination for a great portable gaming device.
