Nintendo Switch Size Comparisons (3DS/WiiU)

Still too big to be portable for me and the lack of screen protection is still a deal breaker as far as my taking it out of the house goes. As much as I love what the joycons can do its still the third ugliest piece of hardware Nintendo has put out after the av famicom and Pikachu n64.

Going from the new 3ds to this is massively depressing.

It be cool if MS made a 360m like this. But I don't think I'd buy either as I don't play any mobile games. It does look smaller than I thought though.

Someone in another thread actually said that one of the reasons it wouldn't do well was that it was "huge". /rolleyes

I love the look of it. Looks like a beautiful system and the ability to play 60 fps MARIO Kart in split screen, on the go with the joycons is gonna make it so much fun on journeys with the girlfriend. Or Mario Kart rage will ruin our relationship. One of the two.
 
Great design - def. make me feel good about getting one at launch.

As far as I know, only 32 Bit programms will be supported

Microsoft is enabling Windows 10 to support ARM chips directly by building an emulator into the operating system. Devices will be able to run x86 win32 applications like Chrome or Photoshop, but Microsoft won’t be emulating x64 variants of these apps.

Man, having the Switch sitting right beside the Wii U gamepad makes your realize how terrible of a design it was! Granted, it did come out in 2011, but I still don't think that excuses its cheap look.

Edit: I'd also nominate the Switch as Nintendo's most compentent piece of hardware design. Again, just look at it in comparison to the Wii U gamepad and think about the features it packs inside.
 
So the screen's a bit bigger than the Wii U GamePad. That's good enough for me. The Joycons are bigger than I thought though, which is also good.

While I don't think it's "ugly", the size is too large for me to carry around without a man-purse/bag, which disqualifies it from being a portable for me. Not a fan of carrying a bag everywhere I go.

With 3DS XL, it's easy: That goes in one pocket, my iPhone in another pocket, and my wallet in a third. No bag required. It's easily portable. With Switch, I'd need to stuff Joycons into another pocket-- and I'd worry about breaking them. It's also extra pieces, which I'd be concerned with losing/forgetting.

Plus, I'd rather use the Pro Controller instead of the tiny JoyCons, anyway.
 
It's smaller than I imagined. It's fantastic that they crammed a more capable Wii U into a volume quite a bit smaller than the gamepad

Sometimes on NeoGAF, its hard to tell if people are just ignorant or incredible trolls.

I do. I don't use those phone cases because I don't like the idea that I can lose my cell phone and wallet at the same time.
 
Size looks fine. I just wish they would have slid the four buttons and sticks slightly off center in opposite directions, if even just a tad.

Maybe the internals of the joycons didn't have space for that, I dunno, but not looking forward to the hand cramps.
 
As someone who returned the n3DS XL and got a regular sized n3DS, the Switch is too large to be a portable
 
Wow, its what the Wii U gamepad should have been.

Releasing the Switch in 2012 might have gone over alot better. Even could have called it Wii 2.
 
I really like the look of the tablet. The joy-cons look good, too. I just think the dock is kind of meh looking. Wish it had a bit more flash or something to it.
 
I think if Nintendo market this as a home console than can be on the go, they will fail. But if they market this as a portable console with home console graphics like, they might have a winner. I think they start having exclusive deals like monster hunters and have a real pokemon sequel on this, and this system sales will sky rocket.

But if they next year announce a sequel to 3DS or whatever its called, then this thing is doomed. Nintendo should focus on this only and it will fly.
 
Several things I do consider worries:

Will some screens have TN/IPS like N3DS?

Will the dock scratch screen upon insertion?

Is screen glass or plastic?

Do the joycons fits securely? Secure, as in no wiggle when connected - or forward lateral wiggle....

Seriously, with all that tech in the joycons, there's more Wii in Switch than there was in WiiU.
 
That's a pretty nice size tbh. Without the Joycons attached, it looks to be the same as a folded up 3DS XL. If people could carry the 3DS around, carrying the Switch around is gonna be fine.

Its hugely OT, but saying the Switch is a really nice looking device that I would love to see Nvidia create a micro-PC version of with a similar form factor is hardly trolling the Switch.

It's IPS
The dock has a grippy texture for sliding in and out. I'll likely get a screen protector as well.
From what a few have said from impressions, it appears to be glass.
