Nintendo Switch Update Ver. 4.0.0 Live! Some video capture, transfer profiles/saves

I just tried Update Controllers for the first time in a few months and all my Joy-Cons just updated. I wasn't watching closely, but I don't think my Pro Controller updated. Does anybody know what the controller update does?

Edit: Looks like a lot of people have the same question. XD

Updated, the save transfer is still a huge joke.

How so? Haven't gotten a chance to look into that yet.

Yeah, also curious.

A good update, but I'll stick on 3.0.1 for now.

help me understand this
data caps?

sounds like someone that wants to be able to have more control over the save files. right now they are still tied to the profile and move with it simultaneously. no individually transferring to SD card or PC or anything. Non issue for most of us, but it would be nice functionality in the future

Typing because im too excited to read.

You can tranfer, how about back up? Incase I loose or completely break my switch ?

video capture works well

+fluid
+easy
-mid quality video
-30s limit
-limited to a few games (hoping it will be a matter of just developers backtracking with updates for games released to this point, while most others from now on will support it day 1)

grateful for what's there though!

His save and profile was in my Switch, and then he got his own Switch. Now he can transfer all of his stuff and we can play on our original save files together.

I just wish we had a family account so if I get my son his own for Xmas we could still share digital games.

It's really not. It has a totally different functionality. The transfer feature is for family members/friends getting their own Switch, so they can get their save files from the shared Switch onto their own Switch(es). That's not a backup feature, but as the name suggests, a transfer feature.

Yeah, I think this is certainly a nice update - and also an assurance that they’re actively working on new and promised features - but the 3ds and Wii U allowed you to backup your saves to as many drives as you’d like. They’re behind on this even by their own standards.

Edit:
Is it just me or is the lowest screen brightness option actually a fair amount lower after the update?

Holy shit! Fucking game changer for me. I like to play in bed and was wishing for this feature.

New icons are cool, but I kind of wish they would just go crazy with them and add like 10x more. There still aren't any icons that I really like.

Yup, so many Kodiak moments :/

Very cool stealth update. Glad to see they finally got video recording working. The clips need to get longer though; maybe the Switch can't do the 15 minute videos of the PS4, but something like 5 minutes at least.

Preloading and save transferring are great features that should've been there from the beginning, so it's cool that's there now. And if they lowered the minimum brightness setting that is legit huge for me, lol (I sometimes play very late at night in a room with roommates).

Now just give me Netflix!

Nice. I wish the video capture was up to 5 minutes, though. I feel like that would be around the magic number to get a full Splatoon 2, Mario Kart, or ARMS match in there. Looking forward to playing around with it, though.

It's the video stored in low resolution?, or it is because the switch OS runs at that res? (I recorded some campaign splatoon 2 gameplay and the resolution and framerate drop was huge).

Still, I'm surprised the switch could handle this.

People excited for this must not own a Xbox One or PS4, there is nothing exciting about this, its like being excited that i found the missing wheel on my bike, so now i can use it.
Pre purchage and pre download is also coming soon to select games, not activated, so half baked. But switch gets passes on frame rate, resolution, online, almost mandatory sd card buys, and now tiny updates.... whats new.
The day I turn into you is the day I quit gaming.

Let's hope it never happens.

Cool update. Maybe cloud saving will be added with the subscription. I doubt Nintendo wants anyone touching save data.

While I like recording clips on my Xbox, that's because I can send the clips directly without relying on annoying people on Twitter or Facebook.

Honestly, I'd rather the CPU / GPU cycles reserved for this capability be released back to developers. I mean, I'd take smoother framerates in games that are close to 30fps over recording clips I can't even share in a convenient way.
