Nintendo Trademarks "Zii"

I did not mean that that was Nintendo, thats creative's page... I just meant how can they trademark zii if it's taken like other also have said earlier in the thread.

Also steamcell based computing is pretty funny on it's own.

People seem to forget that regardless of some, if not all of Nintendo offices' positions on it, it is the DS' GBC-like successor, down to the 2X clock speed and 4X RAM of its predecessor even. :lol

Not saying it's a good thing or a bad thing, but you can bet dollars to donuts that we won't see a successor with a more sizable "beefy" leap until years down the line.

Over 2, almost 3. The point I was trying to make is, I wouldn't expect a successor to the DSi until 2 or 2.5 more years down the line, based on past events that is.

That one's easy to japanesify. What I'm getting at is that the consonant/vowel combination "zi" doesn't exist in Japanese and is sometimes "translated" as "ji" for a number of silly reasons.

I'm not sure why it'd be 'zwii' when usually z -> 'j-like', but trademarks are funny and they can tell you it's pronounced however they like I guess.

ズィー is the phonetic transcription of Zii. "Jii" would be simply ジー, not　ジィー. I don't see anyone proposing "zwii" in this thread.

You're thinking of words that are actually Japanese. Katakana has more flexibility than that, it can render sounds that are not part of the native language. (Even if your average person can't pronounce them and watches movies on dee-bwee-dee)

I guess they don't necessarily overlap, Creative Zii isn't going to be an actual consumer device I don't think, it's just a platform that (Creative hope) will power others.

As far as I know, they would only run into problems if the "Zii" was also an mp3 player or something else related to music. I was told using already existing product names was considered OK if your product doesn't belong to the same type of industry as the one that already exists.

By the way, personally I'd spell it ゼィー, i.e. the way "si" is often katakanafied when you're trying to be more literal, except with a voiced s.

Trademarking is for each county, though in the past decade the US, EU, and Japan have joined a treaty allowing one to pay an extra fee during registration and automatically apply in earh other and eighty or so smaller countries. (see http://www.wipo.int/export/sites/www/treaties/en/documents/pdf/madrid_marks.pdf)
It's also specific within 45 classes of goods. This can catch people off guard in trademark threads when they breathlessly trumpet Sega's new... plastic toy.

Maybe its their own camera, to get in on what Sony did with the Eyetoy/are doing with the wands and what Microsoft is doing with Natal. It would make sense for them to have their own official camera.
 
Wouldn't be surprised if it was a camera, or something more underwhelming than that. But Zii does still fit the "Keep it 3 letters" intent by Nintendo, it reminds you of the Wii name without being confused for it, and DECK'ARD's "2ii"...

I'm of the mind that it's just NCL plugging what trademark holes it can, though.
 
Zii, as in 'zzz' as in use the wii vitality sensor to monitor your sleep patterns. Wii Zii: Sleep.
