Nintendo TVii is shutting down on August 11th

Finally! Now for that useless button...

I seriously hope the global shut-down means it will be completely stripped from the OS at every level, from UI down to the actual software itself. It's bad enough that Europe had to deal with it wasting screen and storage space. I really don't want this thing sitting there pointlessly now that it will be impossible to use.

What a waste. If they had taken the time to make it a usable piece of software it may have gained traction but they just let it go. (Used it once and couldn't even get it to setup)

Sad it never was done right. It had potential but wasn't updated. I loved watching Walking Dead and posting to it as the show was happening. Sadly they didn't support all the sports. Hockey doesn't exist to Nintendo apparently.

So yea another idea not done right sadly.

I actually enjoyed the service quite a bit before the updates made it completely pointless to set favorites. Still, it came in very handy when I need to change channels when I didn't have a cable box.

All they really had to use improve the speed and search engines and it would have great.

I tried it on launch day when I was setting up my Wii U, but never really felt the need to use it again.
Same here.
Heck, maybe if I knew what it was for I would have pressed the icon again. I clicked it, spent a few minutes fumbling through the menus then closed it forever.

Goodbye, TVii!

Did it ever take off to begin with??? This turned into a complete afterthought after the console launched. I never used it once.

Did anyone else watch this and think "system seller" like I did?

I'm not a huge TV person but the use of the Wii Pad in this way makes a heck of a lot of business sense.

Did they ever release more of the Panorama Views? I remember those being like $3 each or something stupid for a 5 minute video. The demo I tried for free was cool, but man, what a crazy idea.

Sorry, it's off-topic, but the end of an unused WiiU service made me think of another unused WiiU product.

And nothing of value was lost

Seriously, what was it supposed to do? Never used it

Think of it as a TV Guide, WIth Play by Play of what just happened in the programs, mixed with miiverse comments for certain scenes as it airs.

I used it way back in the first few months it was available to comment on reality shows live like America's got talent. Havent used since.

TVii, much the like the Wii U concept as a whole, was probably an innovative idea when they dreamed it up at Nintendo, but by the time it went to market it was already behind the curve.

I loved that shit for like the first month before Xmas 2012. Then it wore out its welcome and I never touched the icon again.

While all other systems receive new functions and services, functions of Wii U and 3DS are kept being removed. Both seem on their way out.

If Wii U owners are lucky they may get a Kirby TV channel.

I never used the damn thing. Less space occupying my drive so that's nice I guess. On a similar note, can Hulu please come to Canada so I have a reason to use the damn app?

Dat icon hate, you know you can stuff it in a folder with all the other useless crap and toss it on the furthermost screen...

I used it a handful of times early on. It was a good idea in my opinion, and had definite potential. Unfortunately it was slow and cumbersome as fuck, and consequently frustrating to use more often than not. Haven't launched it in over two years as a result.

Just another item for the long list of things Nintendo bungled with regard to the Wii U.

It was weird seeing this touted by Reggie as one of the defining features of the Wii U during the pre-launch event in September, 2012. It never took off in any meaningful way. I played around with it for ten minutes on launch day and never touched it again.

There was a football game on one day and I happened to get on TVii (maybe I hit it by accident, I don't recall why) and saw that you could follow sports as they happened but it was fairly delayed. People could post stuff on there though, so you could see reactions as they happened.

I recall not a single person in the entire country was posting on this football game.
