The physical button activates the universal remote function, separate from TVii.
You can use it as a TV remote still. Volume, on/off, channel, etc.
When will the icon be removed? What will replace it? I smell an OS update.Wishful thinking.

Same here.I tried it on launch day when I was setting up my Wii U, but never really felt the need to use it again.
Did anyone else watch this and think "system seller" like I did?
I'm not a huge TV person but the use of the Wii Pad in this way makes a heck of a lot of business sense.

It was weird seeing this touted by Reggie as one of the defining features of the Wii U during the pre-launch event in September, 2012. It never took off in any meaningful way. I played around with it for ten minutes on launch day and never touched it again.
