I think Nintendo in general has become more in tune with its audience. BotW and Super Mario Odyssey were in many ways exactly what a lot of us wanted in terms of direction for the series. For some reason, Nintendo has taken a noted interest in the esports game community. Over the past few years they have published and pushed many titles to esports events. Perhaps they see them as a niche of consumers that can heavily support their platform. The new ips being developed are likely a direct response to complaints about their lack of new ips. Splatoon was a major success and it encouraged Nintendo to experiment further. Apparently, Nintendo wants their major studios to produce new ips. Arms seems to be the next phase. We will see how this title pans out, it looks surprisingly really good and there's a ton we haven't seen yet. As for the RPGs, FE and Xenoblade in recent years have given a much heavier push than previous RPGs from Nintendo(ignoring Pokemon). #FE along with some of the Japanese features of FE:Fates makes me think they are/were also trying to secure another kind of JRPG fanbase as well. Year 1 of Switch(March 2017-March 2018) could bring Zelda, Mario Kart, Splatoon, Arms, Smash Bros., Pokemon, 3D Mario, and Xenoblade. Year 2 of Switch could have Retro's new game, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Mario Maker, and Metroid maybe developed by Retro.
