Nioh - Debut Trailer - "PS4 Console Exclusive"

Lol this is a straight up Dark Souls ripoff. Even worse than Lords of the Fallen in that regard. I also have zero faith in Team Ninja pulling off... well, anything at this point. Let's see what they've got.

I can think of worse games to draw inspiration from. Hell, I want more games like this and have been waiting for more developers to take the concept and try their hand at it. As far as Team Ninja goes, I don't doubt their ability to craft some killer gameplay one bit. Imagine a Souls game that plays kind of like Ninja-fucking-Gaiden.

Will def be playing this with Japanese as the language and English subtitles. Looks great. Hope all the time in dev produced something special.

Souls combat works suprisingly well with a Samurai aesthetic. Lots of circle strafing with sudden deliberate finishers :P

Well, in the past, "console exclusive" meant "it's coming to PC too," but apparently it isn't?

I don't know anymore. Don't listen to me.

Keep in mind many of the people that are disagreeing are likely not aware of the terminology being used, which is obviously Sony's intent in the first place.

As I've said several times, there is significant historical precedent to show that 'console exclusive' means there is a PC port in the wings.

If people are still struggling with this, think of it another way. If the game was trully exclusive to PS4, then Sony would be plastering PS4 exclusive all over the video. Why would they be specifically using the term 'console exclusive' at all?

It's an indication, sure, but it's no confirmation.

If it is ported to PC, I hope by 2016 Koei Tecmo is over their 1080p lock.

Pascal will be out at that point, 4K/60 single card will be a reality.

Come on Koei, it's not that difficult to understand.

Things that are different from Souls:

1) Speed - Have you seen how fast the character was moving?! Not even Bloodborne is that fast!
2) Magic Summons - These act like power-up modes for the character.
3) Stylish Execution - These don't seem like parries/counters/backstabs but more like Ninja Gaiden's finishers
4) Item pick-ups - Different, looks like traditional auto collect from walking over

Also in other videos they've mentioned that the gravestones we see can be used to summon enemies for a duel.

Also, the character have different stances for his weapons.

Exactly. That's where my assumption came from. I suppose we'll just have to wait for clarification.

Holy crap. This game is beautiful in action. We just need a snow-covered garden scene like in Kill Bill and then we're in GOTY territory.

Probably, Boyes was saying something else indicating it was only on PS4 so.. let's wait.

Boyes has previously said that games are exclusive to Playstation 4 when they were not. Grim Fandango was a particularly notable one for me as a huge fan of the original on PC. They obfuscated it so far that even Tim Shafer wouldn't comment till a little while after where they announced it would be on Win/Mac/Linux at the same time. There really is no telling at this point

So his prompter is wrong, or the banners.

More excited about this than DSIII. Samurai Souls looks fantastic.

Reminds me of Dark Souls crossed with Ninja Gaiden.

Looks real good.

That's pretty common actually. PC might as well not exist in Japan for all intents and purposes.

A lot of Japanese publishers will sell their game on Steam in other countries, then region lock it so Japanese consumers can't even purchase the game. It's a weird situation and I don't even fully understand it.

I can't wait for this. It feels like this game was made just for me. I always dreamed about being a European samurai in the 16th century with all the Japanese mythology thrown in to make it more interesting. This game could be a great cosplay material too, I might do Nioh in late 2017 since I already got Lo Wang planned for 2017 and Nier for 2016. But I might do Nioh and then Lo Wang, ugh, so many possibilities!!

Hmmm. I'm not seeing the greatness everyone else seems to be seeing. Sure, "Onimusha Souls", but it doesn't seem to capture what makes either of the franchises so great. From this little footage it looks entirely unremarkable, but we'll see.

I thought the footage looked terrible.

So his prompter is wrong, or the banners.

They are both accurate if you are playing the game of bullshit. "Console exclusive" as a term by their meaning is implying that it is only on the PS4 console, but the loop hole for using that term is that the PC isn't a console, so they can say exclusive if they want. The same nonsense as with Grim Fandango.

Is this for the most part the same team ninja that made NG 1/2, recent ones.
This is still modern Team Ninja, but I feel at this point that for determining how good it is it's more on who's the creative lead in charge more than all the other people on the team, because technical performance in their games has been largely consistent throughout. So long as Hayashi just keeps making business decisions and not try and sit in the director's seat on anything again, this game should be pretty great.

To think, for a studio with the word "Ninja" in their title, the fact they're making a Samurai game is honestly the most exciting thing to come out of them in a good while.

This looks so good but I can see it reviewing badly because of lack of depth. It has such an interesting art style, premise and gameplay but if it world design is poor or if there isn't much depth to the mechanisms, it won't do well.

Looks like 30fps on PS4. Might wait for the PC release.

That's jumping the gun a little don't you think?

There's a 60fps trailer you know

(Yes I know it says Ni no Kuni but it is Ni-oh lol)

We sure this has a 2016 release window? Asking for official confirmation/link for the most anticipated thread next week.

At TGS it was announced for 2016. I really love the setting and the concept so I hope that Team Nina can prove they can still make great action games after they messed up with NG3.

It does. My only concern will be with balance. Looking at lords of the fallen it imitated souls as well, but kind of missed the point by making you too powerful.

I wonder if this will start out souls but then turn standard action as you get upgrades/powers. That'll be the true test, if Team Ninja can show restraint.

You gleaned that from one reveal trailer?

K den

Well, Ninja Gaiden is known for its difficulty, so I'm not too concerned about it. It will probably be a different type of difficulty than Souls (in usual Team Ninja fashion), but I don't think you have to worry about it being too easy.

Can we please stop with a hypothetical PC version posts? It has already messed the Ni No Kuni 2 thread -_-

On a lighter note, the official PlayStation channel made a huge mistake
