Nioh Last Chance Trial - Combo Video

Low stance deals less damage for faster speeds plus most of those were like mini-mini-bosses.

I wonder if people are getting too spoiled by Soul's quick kill enemies. This doesn't bode well for future Action games.

You can't spoil anything that isn't true, meaty grunts isn't a staple of the action genre.

Ninja Gaiden Black on Master Ninja had some pretty meaty grunts. NG2 completely changed that but it was for the Sake of the new Damage system where Delimbing enemies was a huge part of combat.

I like Grunts that can survive stuff, it gives more pressure to execution and consistency. If I just cleave through stuff in a single combo it can be interesting for the combo system but it often removes the enemy's side of battle. This is why Zero-Deaths suck in Fighting games for example. This "combo" video is interesting to me because some of the enemies aren't being completely stun locked.

What are you taking about?! the grunt samurai in Nioh can be killed in one mid combo if you're using appropriate level weapons. Even the horned yokai can be killed very easily if you're decently leveled.

We're commenting on the video bud, where the player is using a low damage stance to maximum the number of "combo" hits inflicted on an enemy.

You're missing the point there. Ah well.

I may be misinterpreting but what is your point then? You've said before in this thread that enemies look bullet-spongy. This seems so due to XLH using low level weapons mainly in low stance to style on enemies. You've then said meaty grunts aren't a staple of the action genre. Ok sure I accept that and so does Nioh. The regular bandits you fight in the beaches of non-twilight levels are grunts akin to hollows in souls and are weak.

I'm not trying to be mean, just trying to understand. Have you played any of the demos?

I never played the Alpha or Beta and just started last weekend for those 2 days only and really had fun with it......just watching this video is f'in insane. I can't even get that big crazy lady down to half of her health and I had to spam bombs/projectiles on that Tengu mofo after he killed me like 7-8 times. This shit is freakin' hype and playing it during the weekend made me pre-order the game.....never gonna get at that level though lol.

I was 1 - 2 shotting the standard grunts in twilight mode come end of demo. I feel like most people ignored the blacksmith to upgrade their weapon. Like Diablo gear checks matter much more if you want to kill stuff speedily. People want to make this game to be a complete direct souls like system but isn't. The Demon like yokai on the other hand were always a tad hard but that's ok, I see them as a red eye knights of sorts. Now what i don't like is how much HP the bosses have. Even with the carnage talisman where i was hitting 1700 - 200k damage on the ogress it still felt like a slog.

Demo goes offline >>> yeah, that's cool, I can wait just a few more weeks to finally get my hands on this

Watches videos in this thread >>> about to repost stupid crackhead meme from previous thread

His sudden rise to fame surprised him lol ^^; Personally I thought it's about time after the last two demos.

Thank you ALL! Sorry that i won't be responding to each one individually but i thank every single one of you for the support, whether by rating, sharing, commenting or subscribing! I'm used to 4, 5, 10 comments/subs max, per day, sometimes none lol... But at this point, i really gave up on my email XD

In this video i tried to show at least 70% of the moves you can unlock. Time didn't permit for more but i'm glad you enjoyed what my humble mind came up with ^^'

Some of you asked about my thoughts: I love the final product. I think they've worked really hard to keep what we like while trying their best to balance some other things that looked overpowered. It's an insanely tough task, and i really appreciate what Team Ninja has done. Can't wait to see other weapons and skills.

I mean his videos helped sell me the game quite frankly and he's doing a better job marketing this thing than the lame official gameplay videos that don't really do much to show off what's actually different from Souls. Hats off to the man.

I enjoyed the Alpha to a degree after some time but it really clicked 100% after I checked out one of his videos and saw what could be done. Turns out, it's very much achievable as well based on the leaps I made in skill even in my time with the demos.

Agree 100% We need to find more videos like his.

Someone that has never played the game and watches this video = Oh cool, another Devil may cry rip off

Someone that has played it = WTF, how in the world....

You are correct, but it seems a few NG player are playing it. Like I think Miduki is also playing Nioh.

Oh nice, Miduki's NG3:RE videos persuaded me to give it shot after the abysmal NG3. Razors Edge was still very flawed but on the right track. Only so many ways to polish a turd though.

Man, NG3 was such fucking hot garbage, I didn't even dare touch Razor's Edge with a 10 foot pole. Is it worth is for some cheap-ass price?

It makes lots of improvements but ultimately cannot fix the fundamental problems that were core to the base game. It comes nowhere near to the heights of NG1 and 2 but is still enjoyable as a fun romp imo.

See this thread for a more detailed review-of-sorts:

Looks good, but that sound design is annoying af. Same witht the choppy/missing animations.

That's music he himself added, not in-game. The sound design and music choices are spot-on.

Are you talking about the enemies in the distance regarding the animations?

Great video on explaining the mechanics. Haha I laughed when he railed against people calling it just a shitty dark souls clone. :D Instantly reminded me of the other thread where people were seriously saying that when they very clearly have not engaged in the mechanics properly.

this guy is literally the reason I didn't give up after my bad experience with the alpha demo. Instead of dismissing it I buckled down and decided to git gud.

I'd been playing it like Souls and having a real rough time of it. But his videos just made me stop and go 'what the fuck this isn't the game I was playing'

I was talking about the samey ching-ching-ching sound effect with each attack/dodge. On one side the attack sound doesn't sound nice, on the other I don't get why a dodge has to make a sound at all. Maybe foot trambling or something would fit, but not like it's cutting something...

Animation wise I'm talking about these sudden changes in character stances. I guess this is something that comes with the fast pace, but it still looks silly if the character switch from stance to stance and you can barely see a transition animation.

Both the sound effect and animation is a result of the ki pulse mechanic.

Lol are you referring to the sound of the pulse dodge and the animation cancelling??

Oh okay, didn't knew that. Thanks for explanation.

The demo wasn't available anymore when my download was finished yesterday.

edit:

I was referring to what I see in the video and that doesn't sound or looks nice in my opinion.

Razor's edge was a decent game i'd definately recommend for having fun. As opposed to NG3 which was a horrible game.

RE is still not balanced for high level play, but its still a very enjoyable game any action game fan should play

You're technically correct, the best kind of correct.

But it's 5am and I needed a word to be all encompassing of what it is and at the same time be unexpected for a Souls Game to emphasize the difference.

Nobody is going to put out a "Combo video" for Souls. :p

Exhibition video
Or Combat Exhibition video
Expand yo vocabulary bruv ;)

A) That's the Ki pulse being triggered, a specific mechanic he is using heavily to facilitate his level of play

B) He's cancelling. There are no missing animations, check this video when he's changing stances:

Did they somehow manage to make it even remotely playable in some sort of NG1 fashion combat wise? I'm not expecting the same quality obviously but damn I'm thirsty for some good Action games lately...

Agreed. I had my fun with it even tho it's no NG II. If only for Kasumi and Ayane. Some of the older bosses in a more modern looking game are cool, too.

No, they added the obliteration system on top of the steel on bone system. Hence extremely broken.

just check it out, its worth it

Yes, funnily enough they are more fun and control better than ryu in NG3:RE due to being designed from the ground up for the game.

It's pretty much the whole reason I made this thread lol
