Nioh - New PS4 Pro Gameplay - Ogress Boss Battle

Neogaf likes to say they are gameplay over graphics.

Prove it when this fucking awesome game comes out. I for one am tired of these short, repetitive sub 30 fps easy as fuck brain numbing gameplay titles with good graphiczzzz.!1!1 that we so often get.
I'm sure the 2018 PC release will be 30 fps.

The likelihood of a PC release is diminished now that Sony is publishing it. If this is good they probably lock it down.

Does this game have co-op summons like Blooborne/Souls? I like to try to beat bosses on my own, but it be would be nice to have the option if needed. This looks harder than Souls games.

Yeah as I've said earlier I think sony is trying to prevent another demon's souls situation.

And yeah you can do summons in the game though it's kind of different in its method to summon people

The environments Ive seen in all the previews dont look that impressive and the heavy use of fog really give it a washed out look.

A high end PS2 game looks like this

150681-Metal_Gear_Solid_3_-_Snake_Eater_(USA)-5.jpg

come on that's just ridiculous hyperbole.

I've been on the fence since it seems like something I would like but I would like to know how varied the environments are. I still might get it for the combat alone though.

So far I've seen 8 different environments.

Fishing Village, Ninja Caste, Snowy Fortress, grassy hills, Underground temple complex etc. Pretty varied.

One thing to note is that these locations are based off historic sites. For example the area where this Ogress boss is fought at is called Futamata, is probably referring to the Futamata fortress where Tokugawa and Takeda Shingen faced off in 1572.

The Ogress boss herself was crying for "Nobuyasu", hinting that this is the restless spirit of Lady Tsukiyama, the lawful wife of Tokugawa who was executed for conspiring against her husband and Oda Nobunaga.

I'm not sure about what is looking amazing.

Seems to have nice IQ but the art and design is pretty poor : /

I'm not seeing it either. Silky frame rate, but it looks pretty damn dated to me. Dated might be putting it mildly, it kinda looks trash.

I was always skeptical of this, expecting Nier Automata to be the better game for Ninja Gaiden-like action. NiOh always looked slow and too much like Souls which I didn't like.

But this video is not only a flawless 60fps, the gameplay seems much faster than it used to be. Dodging, attacks, recovery and running all seem to be much faster than I've seen before in this game.

It went from "will try it out just in case" to "GOAT day 1" from this video.

EDIT: One question though... Is all the gameplay during nighttime? Because that's a bit boring if so.

Nah in the beta you were fighting a boss during evening or something.

We know at least two area that have sunlight.

(Footage from the playable Beta demo if you're wondering about the speed of combat)

EDIT:

You forgot to put the tachibana muneshige fight

It's in the first link, he makes it look easy lol.

New weapon? I never saw it before.
What's the weapon like? I don't want to click the link, 'cause I've played the beta to hell and back and now I want to avoid most videos/spoilers so that everything else is fresh.

I do hope there's a naginata type of weapon in the game. Because naginatas are fucking cool. -)

I'm hoping there is a rival Samurai character that is on the same level as William with similar moves, weapons and style but makes for the ultimate challenge in the game. Basically a Vergil to William's Dante.
There was one in the beta!
Tachibana Muneshige?
Yep that guy. Fucking awesome fight. Extremely rewarding to beat him.

Kusarigama, aka the chain-sickle.

My prediction is that Naginata would be in the same weapon class as spears, similar to how axe and hammer are lump together.

The graphics and animation are just fine in my opinion, though they are a bit dull. Aesthetically, the game definitely does not appeal to me, as I couldn't be less interested in samurai or this setting. I'm banking on the gameplay being worth it though, as a massive Souls fan.

I'm noticing a lot of people in this thread who are talking like they didn't play the alpha OR (for the love of GOD) the BETA. The beta was WAY more refined holy shit.

You guys, this game is friggin amazing and you missed your chance (twice) to play one of the bestest action rpgs this gen. I hope they release another "demo" so you guys can try it before you buy it. I am gonna play this game until my eyes bleed. I'm gonna beat all twilight missions and will also probably PLAT this game.

This has become my most anticipated game of next year after playing the Alpha and Beta. I wish more companies would promote their games this way. And, I don't get people saying it looks like a PS2 game. The graphics are great IMO.

Why is this listed as a 'console exclusive'? PC release?

Because KT will surely release it later on PC. Sony publishing it in West is the same kind of deal as Nintendo publishing Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor Edge in West.

But I'm not sure this is the right thread for that discussion. At all.

I hope you will be right about this. Would love to play this on PC.

However, game looks really good, I don't understand some of the comments here.
PS2?

Really?

Nioh the game that made demos great again(Srsly I believe there's something to be learned about demos which the industry has forsaken a bit from that game, pretty much one of the few times a demo instantly convinced me of a day 1 buy). Hope it delivers on that promise.
Agreed. This was not on my radar at all until the demo.

I doubt that. Has been talked about as a PS4 exclusive for a while. Or you might show me another place where they left other platforms open, other this sticker.

Ma man. This game will most likely be my most played game this gen in terms of how many hours I'm willing to sink in. Just ungodly amount of hours cause the combat feels/plays so damn satisfying. The alpha & beta solidified it for me and shot it all the way up to must play asap category.

A Sony promo email I got today.

Probably just a mistake on PR side much like PSX'15, even the game cover now has "only on Playstation" while games like SF5 had the Console Exclusive.
Team Ninja has been pretty clear with their stance even before Sony got the publishing rights,
Team Ninja Alpha Demo Trailer said:
We hope you enjoy this first glimpse into the world of Nioh, and look forward to hearing what you think about our game only on PlayStation 4.
Nioh - Alpha Demo Announcement Trailer said:
Developed exclusively for release on the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system
NIOH - PSX Trailer said:
Koei Tecmo Games exclusively for the PlayStation®4 platform.
Which is why I doubt PC release is coming any time soon, or at all.

I think that this combat system would just not work with PVP. It's too fast pace and combo heavy you know?

I don't agree with that. Fighting the red mound phantoms (I forgot their in-game term) is essentially AI PvP and it's a ton of fun. Granted I'm not Mr. PvP himself in the Souls games or similar, but I can see it working perfectly fine based on that unless I'm overlooking something obvious to the more skilled PvP crowd.

EDIT: I really believe whoever thinks this looks like a PS2 title needs to go back to some non-emulator-uprezzed-to-hell and/or non-PS3 remaster PS2 title and actually play it for a minute. It's totally absurd to say this looks like a PS2 title, you can't even objectively claim that. Like I said, it's not a graphics power house by any means but it looks very nice from a design standpoint in my opinion and nothing about its technical side is jarring so that works for me.

They're called revenants. Btw found a psx game impressions video(includes nioh, horizon, that space battle game, etc):

I still don't like how this game looks. The animations have been improved as well as the framerate but there is still a lot of weightlessness to the animations. The level design (narrow corridors of shitty looking rocks) and lighting still look terrible to me and I hate that magic sparkle everywhere thing they have with basically everything on screen. Reminds me of slot machines. The boss fight arena looks equally terrible.

If you're talking about the blue sparks those are a visual cue for when you need to do your ki recharge. Its so you don't have to look away from your character and the action to properly time it.

In combat there's a constant clutter of particle effects on the screen whether from your or enemy weapons, enemies dying, picking up items etc. It's like someone just went overboard with them. That's what reminds me of slot machines. It doesn't help that the damage done font is also pretty ugly.

Compare it to Dark Souls games which have fairly minimal amount of crap on screen so you can see what moves you and the enemy are making better.

For Honor has a similar issue but instead of particle effects it has just lots of UI on screen. I hope the final game is a bit lighter on that.

I see what you're saying and obviously if you dislike the visuals of that, I don't blame you for being annoyed by it. It definitely doesn't distract from reading enemy movements or anything like that during gameplay however and the blue particles/flashes, whatever you want to call it, are there for you to read your Ki burst timing (active reload essentially) without having to look up at the gauge which actually works very well in the heat of the action.

EDIT: My bad, HStallion already pointed that out anyway.

Looks like a PS3 game running at 60fps. I wish it was Ninja Gaiden, this reminds me of Bloodbourne which l hated for it's difficulty level

I'm still not sure about the gameplay.. very stiff, kinda like the DW stiff.

This plays absolutely nothing like DW just saying. Its more like a Soulsborne character action game. Even a single low level enemy can kill you if you're not careful.
