No Better Feeling than Beating a Sibling in a game

My heart is pumping and my hands are sweaty.

This is a common feeling I get when I play my brother in a competitive game we are both good at. I don't get this feeling playing any of my friends (who would also be quite good at some of these games) or playing online.

The rivalry I have with my brother when it comes to multi-player games is strong, most notably with Smash 4. We are pretty evenly matched and usually go for 5-6 3 stock rounds per session. In our last session he beat me pretty handily and won the majority of the matches. I then endured his taunts for about a week long until we rematched tonight.
I beat him 6 rounds to 1 and in one match I 3 stocked him (didn't lose a life). The feeling is like no other for me in gaming. Now I have bragging rights over him for a few days and will be using it to my full advantage. It really does escalate to mind games with us.

This is a common occurrence for us and has been going on now for a number of years, be it Smash, Mario Kart, Worms or some other fun local MP game. It's these moments that genuinely give pure joy in gaming. I always said I would one day record the both of us due to some of the sheer brilliant reactions from crazy comeback wins or heartbreaking losses.

Do you guys have any stories about sibling rivalries? Please share :) First thread here on Gaf!

I was actually going to name thread that and then thought better of it :P

You should have. I thought you meant like a character that is a sibling of another character. Lol because i mistead it as "being"

My bro is 7 yrs younger than me so we never got down like that, but my buddy who grew up next door was like a brother so i know the feels you are speaking of

I had a lot of rivalries playing games with my older brother back on the Genesis, N64, and PS1. I can think of something even more satisfying than beating my brother though.

My dad didn't play video games much at all. He played Mario and Duck Hunt on the NES with us, and then started playing Goldeneye and Cruise N USA with us on N64 when that came out. We all had our own controllers, and weren't allowed to use anyone else's.

When my dad got sick of getting his ass kicked in Goldeneye, he'd unplug my brother's controller (and sometimes leave mine plugged in sitting next to him). My brother wasn't allowed to get up and walk away, he wasn't allowed to use my controller, he just had to sit there with an unplugged controller and get killed over and over while my big hard ass terrifying biker dad laughed like a little girl. If he walked away that rare smile on my dad's face disappeared quick and my brother got grounded.

Sitting in silence watching my brother's trash talk turn into that was always way more satisfying than winning myself.

Beat my brother at street fighter back in the day really badly, he broke my favorite controller in rage, I let him win the next game...

Thankfully we never reached the point where we broke controllers :P We came close mind you! One or two GC controllers are in rough shape.

My youngest sister and I played a lot of Mario Kart 64. We had to start calling no shortcuts because we could hit all of them without fail. Those were good times.

My older brother regularly stomped me in fighting games. I was trying to plan with spacing, basic combos, etc... and he was just pressing buttons like a madman. It irked me beyond belief lol.

I also remember playing Co-Op with him in games like X-Men Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance and having a great time though.

My brother and I have a small rivalry with games, but nothing too bad. And there is a better feeling than beating a sibling in a game: Beating a sibling in front of their kid. Yea, I whooped my brother and his son in Mario Kart this past Christmas Feels good.

My brother and I have a... very unhealthy attitude to our Smash 4 1v1 sessions. Basically one gets free reign to indefinitely roast the other until we play again.

I've never been competitive with my sister, in games or otherwise. Never saw the point. I always felt bad beating her too much. In fact, I think I probably tried to rubberband my own play to make her feel like she was more competitive than she really was.

I regularly challenge my 4 year old niece to a game of street basketball.

Nothing better than crossing them up and dunking on em, and shoving it in their face.

What...are you gonna cry? grow up.

I'd always beat my brother at smash bros/halo etc and then he would start crying, so I didn't enjoy playing against him much.

My brothers and I are close in age. (There's 4 of us.)

We are HIGHLY competitive in video games, especially fighting games. Funny enough, we all have a different game we are the best in: None of my brothers can even touch me in Tekken, my oldest is a Street Fighter monster, the second oldest is a Mortal Kombat player, and the youngest is a DOA fanatic.

Christmas time was always hectic in my house. LOL

I beat my older bro with Jack in Tekken 3 by spamming the same move over and over again, he beat me up in real life. One of my proudest moments.

The only multiplayer games my siblings played were

Combat:

and Mario Bros.

I only see them at xmas time now and we play Catan multiple times a day.

Still great to win. Though I would prefer to play a game that doesn't take an hour+ to complete.

I wonder what it would be like if I had a brother.

I have a sister, and I don't really get a lot of joy in beating her at games. I mostly just want to make sure she has a good time so she'll want to play again sometime.

I used to be like that with my dad in Mario Kart 64 (pretty much one of the only games he can/will play). Then he started actually getting good at it and I found myself taking a hammering when trying to actually win. Good times :)

I prefer beating my wife

This especially Mario Kart and Party. The trash talking and shenanigans that come afterwards are great. I remember teaching my wife who was my girlfriend at the time to play CS:Source and she thought she was hot shit beating on the bots. Man after she played me she never wanted to play Counter Strike anymore. With that said she can easily give me competition in platformers and on mobile games she beats me easy.
