No Fat Drake in Uncharted 4

Guess it doesn't really matter whether he's in or out then, does it?

Doughnut Drake is fine. If someone complained about the inclusion of this alternative skin, then I feel sorry for them.

People get offended all the time by the most trivial of things, and most of that reaction isn't worth worrying about. The funny thing about maturity, is that it's also knowing when its okay to be silly and to playfully make fun of one's own quirks. Everyone desires to be accepted and respected, but a part of that deal is that it's good, even healthy, to laugh at yourself. I know perfectly well that Naughty Dog were goofing around with their own fictional character & not attacking any one specific group of people or person.

I just can't get behind the idea that you have to walk on eggshells all the time, especially with something as ridiculous as this.

Good night, sweet prince.

I get their reasoning, and while I don't necessarily agree or disagree with the decision itself, I am absolutely sick of fat characters who are just "eat tons of food lmao" jokes. Birdie in Street Fighter V bugged me because of that even though I otherwise like the fat redesign a lot.

While they could try to frame it as less of a "fat guy joke," I'm not sure it would be too effective because it's been exactly that for the past 10 years. Them saying "we're gonna stop poking fun at a group of people that already get shit on by mainstream society enough" is a commendable attitude, whether it was necessary or not.

Fatass here. I think that people need to have thicker skin, and loved playing as donut drake. a fat dude climbing all over the place like a champion mountain climber is funny as hell, and it's a shame to see it go.

I don't see it as a joke, as much as I see it as a representation of a hero - with a different representation.

There are few minority lead characters -or- non homogenous ones. There are rarely gay characters or leads in games, few Asian or black characters who are leads in games, too. I see an overweight character representation, in the same way.

There are lots of larger folks who'd love to see a lead character who can represent their physique. I am average thin, so I can't speak for them, but as a gay male - I feel I'd like to see more gay leads (or substantive characters of sorts), so I'm being relative.

I don't see it so much as funny, more of a large male that's not a boomer in L4D type - which seem to be the only larger characters in games...

...As I said earlier, I adore big guys (300-500lbs, cute face and I doesn't matter) - so to see a physique for a rarely attractively represented subset of humanity removed, I find sad.

What if your character in game was called "Poo Pirate Drake" and flounced about the screen being camp because straight people found it funny?

Would you be on here claiming a great victory for diversity in gaming?

It's a funny little option. You're not compromising artistic integrity by including some piece of side content that's completely optional and will not negate from the narrative you've produced.

What an odd way to tackle the situation by invoking the tacit notion that it will be detrimental to his creative freedom if it were included -- something that has been quite traditional until now.

You're joking, but I know places in Europe where simply initiating a conversation is deemed offensive, if unwanted.

We're not that far off.

Lol I'm an introvert and ironically I wouldn't mind having a conversation with a random person on the street as opposed to one at work trying to interact with me.

You know what you get when you don't listen to your audience? You get the how I met your mother series finale.

It's not related to this Doughnut Drake thing, but any artist who cannot listen is lost.

i still hate the people that were in charge with the script. Just add it back again ND.

I plan on getting Uncharted 4 a few days to a week early just as I did with MGSV. If I stream it on YT or Twitch, will I get perma banned on either of those for streaming the game before it's out?

On youtube, you'll have a copyright strike for 6 months.

Having a laugh at most of this. If he/the studio doesn't want to put a gimmicky skin into the game, so fucking what?

Although for PR reasons with how the internet is, he should have just said "no, the skin isn't in". Not the "we've grown up" shtick. That I do agree on, for their own internet backlash sake. However, freedom of speech/opinion, if that's the reason the studio didn't want it in, fair play.

I didn't really use the skin, so I won't miss it that much. I do have to wonder if Neil thought the extra trilogy trophies for using it in the PS4 collection were in poor taste.

Druckman has been sounding a bit up himself of late, I know ND have been successful but watch the ego guys.

How the fuck is this showing their ego? They made a decision about their game and because of idiots on the internet they have to defend it.

People lost their shit about the Blizzard character pose issue and whined about artistic integrity but now when a developer makes up their own mind about something it's still seen as a bad thing?

The hypocrisy is annoying and points to ulterior motives (People only complain about shit they don't like and don't give a fuck about actual artistic integrity).

Isn't the difference being its a skin vs well, being not a skin?

They didn't add breathlessness, belching, food or any offensive things to larger drake - he's just a more handsome version or regular drake. There nothing offensive about it, in fact, I find larger drake endearing.

Now, to make your drake assertion of a gayer version relevant: he'd have to light up in rainbow colors or something only visual.

I understand people will hate on or laugh at anything that seems out of the ordinary - but look, I'm all for diversity and larger drake is more of an ideal hottie than reguLar drake, to me. Plus he's a larger guy getting to be heroic without any meme or any embarrassment of size. Something not seen in gaming.

There aren't any representations of good looking, heroic big dudes in gaming - physically.

The last game that had a good looking chubby character, that was cool was Amped at launch for 360.

The reason people pick that skin is because "haha, look at fatty running!".

It isn't really though. I would agree with you if it was the case that Donut Drake ran out of breath and had to stop every 10 seconds. That would be more akin to that.

But yeah, I do respect the teams decision to do this and probably think it's for the best, but I really hope we have other interesting skins in the game to show off the real time cutscenes.
