Exactly. True planet-sized planets wouldn't necessarily add anything to the gameplay at all. Maybe if each planet had a larger variety of resources, biomes, life forms and points of interests, then maybe something a bit larger might be nice. But as it is, it definitely seems as though you probably wont need to scour every inch of a planet to basically discover where there is to discover there. Which is ok. There's a lot of shit to explore out there and no need to spend too much time in one spot.
Talking variety, not quantity.Won't the planets have "points of interest" spread all over their surfaces?
I think a lot of people are going to be caught off guard when they play the game and 90% of planets are barren.

I need that mp4 version tho.
Pretty lazy video. Going over 5 planets in only two minutes shows me they just needed something to post today. Planets looked cool at least.
Does anybody else wish another outlet besides IGN had the exclusive month-long coverage?
Game Informer did a great job covering the game last December.
Hell, I think even Polygon could do a better job than IGN.
I agree. They might want to show off some of those to highlight that.
to recreate our universe but there are black holes, there are dead planets. Sometimes for demos we'll crank up the number of lush planets because we're trying to quickly show people. But actually in our universe, this one... most things are a little bit barren. Finding life is a big deal, a cool moment, and we want that in our game."
Murray admits that this has consistently been ramped up to show off the world, and that in the final game dead planets will be fairly common. Indeed, to enhance the feeling of discovery,
IGN is kind of at the mercy of what Hello Games provides them. I'm sure they'd love to show us 10 minutes of the game every day.
I'm still waiting for someone to explain wtf was up with that :/Also, I find it strange that the video of IGN playing the game has not been released on the US site but was released on the Italian and Brazilian sites.

Nice! ^
Still going with December. I don't see why they'd be so cagey about release year at E3 unless they were planning for 2015 but faced a development hurdle that made them unsure, or had a deal with IGN to reveal it at the end of this whole thing.
Not really and the planet and experience he describes is the same as Sean has in the first Ign vid...
Damn you edited below I posted!
Did I heard right ? On the GI interview videos, Sean said there will be no dlc ? I'm not a fan of dlc but I got a feeling this game would benefit from dlc/expansion ?
I'm expecting the game to be pretty basic at launch (which I don't mind) but it would be great if they add over the next few months/years following release some features and new stuff .

August 4th is my crazy guess. Sean Murray had said in the past he was thinking about an " interesting release" and would give IGN an opportunity to finish their coverage with something huge.
At the same time, he started that as long as people purchased the game and enjoyed it, that they would continue to support it by adding content and improvements
Man, almost everyone is being attacked by evil goats.
Big "Avalable NOW!!" flashing on the screen fadeout of the last IGN video drop. lol

It was really surprisingly depressing when he killed the Teletubby. He shot the ground near it first, and it turned and looked at him with sad, soulful eyes. It tried running away slowly, but Sean blasted him in the back.

If there are only a few bugs left and all the footage we're seeing is from his E3 build, the rest of the team has had some time to finish up.
99.9% chance it won't happen but I can dream.
Theres always the sun... always the sun...
I dont get this "theory" that they are presenting us with a limited build so they dont spoil us.
I mean... If the procedural generation is as varied as they were saying (almost infinity) then they should not worry about limiting it during demos, cause we, while playing, would most certainly not even experience the same as they are while showing the game at a less then an hour presentation.
I really hope to be wrong, but I believe the game will be a huge dissappointment in that regard. Every planet they have shown is very similar to one another, from the vegetation to the creatures.

This is for sure the case. People are saying that Sean is being "tight-lipped" or he is censoring content. But this is the game and this is what your going to see in the full release.
It is mind-boggling to see people thinking that this game is going to generate different types of creatures for every planet. These creatures are going to look the same on each planet but maybe with a different set of horns or a different color. Same will go with plant life.
What's not to get? They've made it clear multiple times that they don't want to show off too much of the game before launch. That's very important to Sean.
It's already been confirmed that the build was edited in other ways

So it's far from inconceivable that they would cap off the type of creatures we'd see so we don't accidentally see something he'd want to be discovered when the game comes out. We're seeing the exact same creatures on complete different planets, and the hostile goat trend. If you want to be reeeallllyyy pessimistic about it, then you could assume that's an accurate representation of the variation we'll see in the full game I guess.

People are going to be very dissappointed if they think otherwise. I am not talking bad about this game. I know there will be gamers that will still love exploring the planets and fighting in space combat but I still think a lot of gamers are hyping of the "procedural generated" aspect of the game.
Wow... thats what I call a defensive response.
I dont think I want to be "reeeallllyyy pessimistic", but I do prefer to keep my expectations in check so I do not end up swallowed by unrealistic hype, like I've seen here dozens of time.
I'm not saying the game WILL not be as varied as they've stated. I just dont think that "they dont want to spoil the game / surprises" for a game that is all about infinity possibilities and top notch procedural generation system is a logical explanation for what we've been observing.
