No Man's Sky Footage From Tech Fest via New Yorker

I need to watch more late night. Colbert, Fallon, and Coco all seem like a good time when i see clips of their shows.

OT: this game is very much a tease. It seems like the pinnacle of not only open world but procedurally generated gaming we've been engrained in the last gen or so. I feel like they are obviously holding the more in-depth aspects of this game back for when it's closer to release.
Whenever that is lol

Also looks like it will be an awesome stoner game.

I really don't think they are. I think that they're making a near pure exploration game with light layers of interaction.

Wow, even more footage of landing on planets and slowly walking up to animals.

Don't worry guys, I'm sure that those fun game mechanics are going to be shown eventually. I'm sure that the dogfighting/economy/crafting etc is just tons of fun and totally not simplistic and one note ala Minecraft. There's just tons of fun stuff to do that they repeatedly aren't showing us for absolutely no reason. :^)

Huh. You're right. They sure fooled me. Sony has said that The Tomorrow Children will launch in 2015 a bunch of times though.

I tend to follow just the Sony official site for dates where it says TBC, I don't believe other websites who may have overheard at a conference. But I just googled and the president of Q Games did say this fall link.

They have already showed us 2 out of three of those things. Dogfighting is super arcadey, they stated that. It's no Elite. Know what to expect. He talks in depth about the economy here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXUrOFVItgs

For no reason? Is wanting to leave some of the aspects of the game a surprise not enough of a reason? They've shown clips of many of the things they've talked about. I don't need to see a 20 minute demo of Sean fighting ships to understand what it will be like.

you know I'm really starting to see the big picture with this game. This is gonna be huge among streamers and such especially if they keep the content constantly updated.

Can this be done? I think it can only be done in aesthetics for player stuff.

I don't think they can change planets or things due the math nature of the procedural stuff, it could probably change the whole game. I hope I'm wrong, because I think Sean has said that planets don't have different biomes :(

Not really, the devs haven't been claiming all kinds of outlandish things. People are just projecting all kinds of outlandish things onto it.

Well due the long time since the first showing, people have already tried to dampen expectations at least.

I really hope everyone gets all the crap posting out now cuz when i boot this game up and land on my first planet and come to gaf all giddy like a child on Christmas i dont want see the what do you do's, the peter comparisons etc. I hope it works out for everyone nd the ot will be booming with sci-fi fans

That's their plan. They want to go the minecraft route and evolve the game as time goes on with features and whatnot. They also could theoretically update only the environments of unvisited planets, and it would be of significance since unvisited plants would always make up 99.9% of the population. From what they said about it though, they'd probably be focused more on features and ways to interact with the world that already exists.

So glad i have an xbox and PS4 this holiday, besides for Just Cause 3 my PS4 is gunna be pretty damn dusty.

GIVE ME RELEASE DATE PLZ

:( I want biomes.

That economy video doesn't even say anything that actually matters. You collect resources, craft them into objects, and sell them to vendors. That is the vaguest description of a mechanic, lol. Minecraft has an economy by that definition, and that game doesn't have an economy.

What are some examples of things I can craft? Are there products that some NPC's like, and others don't? Should I just find whatever gives me the most amount of money and spam that over and over? Is there anything to vary the monotony of collect resource - craft - sell?

These are basic questions about how I, the player, would play the economy portion of the game. Saying "you can craft stuff and sell it" doesn't communicate a damn thing. It's like announcing a platformer and instead of showing the levels they just say "you can jump on stuff".

What types of enemies can I fight? Do they make formations? How does the reputation work, is it just "shoot one side to make the other side allies" or is it something that requires progression? How do ship upgrades affect the combat?

See, I don't need to watch 20 minute demos (though that would certainly help alleviate the issue). I just want to know how the game plays beyond the fact that features exist.

Why does the wildlife not attack. Some of those big'ish dinosaur looking creatures must be hungry.

There have been some other demos where they actively attack the player without provocation.

Past demos have shown that carnivorous wildlife will run at you in a straight line once they see you.

Why does it seem like we're getting a mini marketing blitz now? Seems odd to hype a release date. Maybe an early access or surprise release at PGW?

Doesn't say anything that matters? You collect resources, can combine them, sell them. You can figure out trade routes just in space and but low, sell high. (Which implies that the value of resources with fluctuate between areas) The AI participates in it all. There are freighters that haul resources. There are pirates who try to wreck your day. I feel like you're expecting a lot more or something, but that clearly gives a solid foundation of how it works. In the video it he says you mine chemical elements (atoms) and can combine them into molecules. He didn't give you examples of what specifically you can craft. He clearly says in the video that he wont be giving the player formulas for what makes what either so that they can figure things out on their own, like how minecraft was. Which means he doesn't intend on telling us before launch either.

This stuff obviously doesn't sound good enough for you, but this is what a lot of people are looking forward to just in case you're confused.

I've got a gut feeling that NMS might turn out to be a Playstation VR launch title.

They would be passing up on a lot of money otherwise. Most people are picking up the game just to walk around alien planets and look at the surroundings, so it would be a very easy fit for VR.

2016, just like The Tomorrow Children. Thanks Soony. Still waiting for that greatness.

Do you try really, really hard to become a very insufferable poster? Or does it come naturally? A post like yours does nothing except derail what could be a perfectly nice little thread.

And what does the Tomorrow Children even have to do with this game?

I've come to realize this and Mm game Dreams will never have nice threads lol shoot go check out that thread terrible

This looks really interesting but I can't stand all that pop in. Everything pops in right in front of you, this is so distracting :|

There is only so much they could do on the PS4, considering it's procedurally generated (also IIRC they aimed for 60fps, don't know if it is though).

Maybe the PC version will be a bit better in that regard.

Uh, no. Most people who are hyped are actually aware that there are a lot more to the game than just "walking around looking at stuff." You might just be assuming that because you're not too informed on the game yourself. Or maybe you are reasonably informed and are saying that because, well there are people who say they're hyped just to look at the planets. I wouldn't say that makes up the majority. Anyway, incase you aren't too informed

Wtf are you even babbling about.
I'm saying that No Man's Sky and The Tomorrow Children are coming out in 2016, if that wasn't obvious enough.
I just see you freaking out calling lies, and Soony and that's a bit melodramatic and silly.

What are you talking about? The Tomorrow Children releases this autumm.

I've been following The Tomorrow Children very closely and can tell you that the next step for the game is another beta....which hasn't even been formally announced yet. I simply can't see that game launching this year.

I'm just sick of all the delays this gen. Sony has been announcing release windows too early and taking too long to announce the delays.

And for the people that think Sony has nothing to do with No Man's Sky:
"No Man's Sky has been treated as if it was from one of our internal studios," Sony UK managing director Fergal Gara told MCV. "We have been working very closely with the developers and bringing it into our release program as if we had made it."

"We are not going to treat it any differently and we are going to put the full weight of PlayStation behind it," he added. "If it all comes together as well as expected, it will be treated like a first-party release; it is not a self-published small indie title on the platform."

This is a 2016 game and I wouldn't be disappointed one bit. I have enough games to play this fall and a delay usually means the game will be better.

don't worry, he can always fall back on this post

Yes, I troll but only on NeoGAF and I don't do it to hurt people. I do it for fun and I try to make it obvious that I am trolling. People still fall for it. :p
